  • Vintage patterns are my life but "What is a giant pattern haul?" Unboxing 80 pounds of patterns would suffice. I was sent 4 huge boxes full of vintage sewing patterns from the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and 1990's along with some other surprises tucked in. From vintage dress patterns to vintage apron patterns, vintage kids clothes and even some actual vintage dresses, I share with you some of the highlights of this massive pattern haul unboxing and some surprising patterns I find along the way.
    Contest has CLOSED. There were over 600 vintage patterns in these boxes!

    My guess is 425 patterns. I made that Calvin Klein “look alike” jeans pattern many times for myself and friends (I was the only one who knew how to sew). We could not afford the “real” Calvin Klein jeans. I remember how important it was to get the top-stitching on the back pockets just right!

    I bought a treasure trove of nothing but 70’s sewing patterns, all uncut from a elderly lady who bought a store out back in 70’s who was going out of business. She had them packed out in about 4-5 tall pattern cabinets. I’ve listed a handful on etsy.

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  Před 3 lety

      Very sweet! Some of the 1970’s patterns have some really amazing lines to them.

  • @Crystal_Blue_Persuasion

    My guess is 501.
    I'm looking for the right 1950-1963 tea dress to make for my daughter's wedding.
    I do enjoy the 1980's-90's patterns too. I hope to see them at least occasionally.

    I'm guessing 1424. I had gone to an estate sale 2 years ago and saw they had patterns I made an offer of $20 thinking it was just the 6 small boxes. They pulled out ALL and I mean ALLLLLLLLLLL the patterns. My car was so full I had to use the side mirrors to get home could not see out the back. and there were patterns in the front seat! Good thing I didn't have a passenger!! When I finally got them all in my apt I got dam near close to 1200 NEW UNUSED FACTORY FOLDED patterns. I'm sell on eBay and Mercari, some of those patterns you pulled out I had already sold. Aprons and Caftans are HOT!!!!! Price high and they will move!!

I keep promising myself that I will stop buying them but I don't. They are getting harder to find here. I remember in the early 90's one thrift store I went to used to wrap their fragiles and knick naks in pattern paper because they told me, "No one wants these, they have no value. No one sews."

    Oh, my goodness at counter time 34:45 you held up a pattern for a clown or a jester costume pattern. It is the pattern I used to make my sons Halloween costume in 1995. I made it out of purple statin/ purple pock-a-dot satin. I had a devil of a time with that hat. He loved it. His two younger sisters wore poodle skirts, and the youngest daughter was of course a princess. I made them all. So much fun.

    That Street Sharks pattern is hilarious. Some of these remind me of my JoAnns days in high school (mid 90s)...on occasion, we had to go through the pattern drawers and dispose of patterns. Discontinued maybe? Don’t know, we’d get a list from the big 4 and spend hours pulling patterns and then manager had to sign off on the disposal. My coworker and I absolutely dumpster dove for them after work...largely weird craft and laughable stuff we couldn’t use. I’m sure I still have a few floating around.

    I am sure that McCalls 4293 is the pattern my Nanna made my doll from back in the 70s. Mine didn’t look half as scarey as those ones 😂

    So exciting to see your pattern haul. FYI I sell patterns on Etsy, all years sell! Therefore list them all!
    My guess is 1019 patterns.
    Question...how much was the shipping on the 47# box? I have some things to ship and am curious if its better to ship in a box versus those provided by the post office.
    Have to run to check out your patterns for sale!

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for your guess. The 46 pound box was well over $100 to ship. I would not advise it. Use Pirate ship box in the bag or use regional rate boxes depending on distance.

    Hello Stephanie ! I would love to start my own collection of vintage pattern, but as I am French, the patterns sold here are very different. It is so difficult to find ressources about sizing, which is of course different, or even a list of brands that used to sell patterns and their history. I love american patterns, but shipping is so expensive, and I'm sure I can find lots of beautiful french patterns, even though there doesn't seem to be a community of vintage patterns lovers in France ! Anyways all that to say I watch your channel with stars in my eyes, in hope I'll one day have my own collection with american brands in it ! :D I love watching hauls, so please continue to show us your finds !!
    As for my guess, I would say 453 patterns !

      Hi Lucie! Actually I know of a few French pattern sellers on eBay. I bought some 1950’s French magazines from them some time back (still working on translating them to English). Shipping is indeed not ideal but there are ways to make it a bit easier. If you ever want to try out a few American patterns check out my website (www.backroomfinds.com) and message me with any questions you have! I am happy to help you.

      @@StephanieCanada Thank you for the kind message, I'll be sure to check what you have on the website ! I actually found a Simplicity pattern from 1948 for a Bust 44" on the French equivalent of ebay, so that was quite surprising ! :O I hope you find the time to translate the magazine in English as I'm sure they would be interesting to flip through !!
