The mighty 79 put portals on the map for the first time.... and they have done it again. Great work to all involved. Great new features.

Portals are a must now for the 2.8 70Cruisers. I am guessing the new portal design will have coil springs in the back 😂

With the new Parabolics by @arb4x4 developed by OME … you don’t need coils. These things are soooooo comfortable 👍

Never mind the sales talk - it would also be handy to know if this amount of body lift is acceptable in all the states around Australia and what the implications are in terms of cost and additional engineering and testing as well.

I believe it was mentioned in some old videos thats 6” lift total from portals and tyres. And 0 lift from suspension so you dont lose droop

The way second stage manufacturing works is that the vehicle is no longer a Toyota Vehicle, it becomes the vehicle from who ever does the second stage engineering pre registration, which is legal in all states and govt approved in Aus!
Eg, HSV Holdens were registered as Holden Commodores, they were registered under second stage manufacturing as HSV Holdens, from HSV (eg the HSV Factory in Aus).

If the portal housing is casting i would rather have iron cast than aluminium cast, but if its a billet 7075 like 74weld i think aluminium would be strong enough

If I understand correctly, the Portals for the back are slightly different to the front in order to comodate the wide difference ?

As you say, " you have and would not build a car without portal axles ! Come on not everyone can afford them ! Given you are sponsored and get them for nothing ! be real in footage and make it real for the average person please.
Guaranteed if your out the Top End of Australia or out West of the Eastern seaboard you will not get a Mechanic Workshop that will have this type of gear to fix it if there is a breakdown remote !!!
    Its as simple as this,
Its a Rich Mans mod to a 4WD.
That's the reality of it !!!!!!

    • @colinfwalters

That all is true. However just today on the tele track a 76 with portals just left everyone behind at a particularly steep rutted creek exit. He just drove it. For everyone else, who did not turn back, it was maxtrax and winching. I want the portals.

    • @OffroadImages
      @OffroadImages Před 13 dny +1

We invested in Portal axles from Marks 4WD paying good money nearly 6 years ago and have run them for over 300,000 kms in every state of Australia as we photograph and film 4wds for a living. It cost us a packet but was in my opinion, one of the best things we added to the Mighty 79.
My wife didn’t even understand why I wanted them, but they simply transform a 79 series into an extremely capable vehicle.
Please don’t judge the modifications we are adding as being outside of the average person, as my first 4wd was a beaten up Hilux which I completely rebuilt to be exactly what I wanted it to be.
This is the best thing about 4wds… you can make them whatever you want them to be. For me… I simply wouldn’t build a 70 series cruiser without Portals… this is genuine 💯
