He obviously chose preserve tires. He was clearly the slowest of the top 4. Mazepin stole 4 seconds from him, but he was a clear 10-15 second behind the top 3 on pace.
Still a lot better than Gasly and Albon in the seat, but Verstappen has nothing to fear.
@@sloppynyuszi did you watch the race? Once he passed Norris he had a 8 second gap to max and it stayed at 8 the entire stint. Then after the pit stops he had a 14 second gap to Lewis and a 12 second gap to max but Red Bull didn’t box him for some reason. Then the fresh tires got to temp and everyone closed in
Give him hard compounds and he'll finish the race on them and yes i know 2 compounds are needed by rules but man checo can do it on 1 set of hards

A battle for the 17th place was one of the most exciting parts of the race

I was watching the race with someone who doesn’t normally watch F1 and they asked if Hamilton could pass Bottas. I replied, "you know those nature documentaries where an orca is toying with a seal before he eats it, this is that in racing form".
Yes, overtaking is definitely a challenge since they gave the drivers a button on their steering wheel which gives them 200HP extra.

No one's saying its not his fault, it's just true that Kimi rarely makes mistakes so when he does make a dumb one, its not looked at as much because (aside from the fact that he's proved his skill for 20 years) we know it's not really representative of him as a driver.
As much as I want to try and defend Mazepin's driving in F1, he's consistently made mistakes and acted in a way that makes him an annoyance and almost dangerous to himself and other drivers.

In this case a collision didn't even happen and 5 seconds was enough. Just cause its Mazepin and people love to hate on him doesn't mean you can change the rules to your will.

Ngl I kinda underestimated him, but he did a solid job today
that was my favorite part of the race!
checo was faster from lap 16 ro lap 32.. 1 second faster than all the front 3 runners.. than after pit stop of hami,max and bottas he started to loose pace drastically.. lost that 14 sec gap to lewis.. if they had put him on hards which would be 5 0r 6 laps younger.. he could have caught bottas [7 seconds behind] by the end of the racce with his tyres on prime age..sadly rb left him till 57 laps on mediums [lost 14 sec to other cars for 19 extended laps on that tyre with vibration] and he couldnt do anything except get that 4th position after lol

It was awesome finally seeing Fernando put out his legendary racing pace when fitted on the hards.
That was a great race!
In hindsight, after the whole season, I feel this was the most boring weekend yet it still was peak entertaining. Really says a lot about how amazing this season was. Fingers crossed 2022 is even half as epic as 2021 was.
