As the years go by my love for Sonny's music just grows as does my playing :)
Brownie...what a voice
To my notion, THE BEST country blues duo in history!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!
You know how people emphasize mental health and to seek therapy? My mental health therapy is the Blues and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee are my therapists.
Holy shit, Sonny Terrys Solo!
You can't make music like this and I wish that more young people today, particularly young African American people, would understand their roots music. Their previous generation's left a gift to the world that is timeless.
Why can't I make music like this?
@@gatoryak7332 There's a saying that in order for you to play the blues, you have to live what you're playing and singing. We have blues in a different form today in the structure of soul, funk, R&B. I count old school rap but not modern rap because people today do it for commercial reasons. They don't have to live it.
@@paulkersey1007 That saying is bullshit. And you know nothing about my life, so how do you feel justified in judging what I can or cannot do?
They can't understand it without exposure and context. It's been appropriated by rock musicians.
@@clotteehammons8664 That's completely ridiculous. Those rock musicians respect the blues more than the young people today. They learned from the masters and created their own sound. With all the social media and you've going around, no excuse. And real is moving father away from the blues roots it once had.
Takes me back in my childhood, as I started listening to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee (and John Lee Hooker, the real blues in general) I was 9 years old. It just got me right there and then, and from then on, in my heart and soul.
sonny and brownie,
two of the best guys with two of the best names
Sonny's inimitable, I love it!
Love their sound very much.
What a duo. Great singing coupled with outstanding musicianship

Typically I hate harmonica playing, or just dont care for it, but I could listen to Sonny Terry all day long.
Today i bay one. My first, and start to learn🤪 and tahts what im find..good for stary i think😅
Then you haven't the masters of the instrument play. There's a bunch of them at Sonny's level and higher.
@@jjryan1352 Doesnt mean I would like them. I have heard tons of harmonica players, like I said, usually dont like them.
@@SuperOlds88 ok. Sounds odd. But ok.
dam good
It looks like Sonny had the bell of a trombone with a kazoo attached under his left arm. I’ve never noticed this or heard Sonny Terry ever play it?
someone didn't like it . how why?
HOLLY COW !
Getting ready to do a "Delta" pilgrimage. @1976 I bought an album by these Guys while stationed in Germany (thanks all You taxpayers for paying my expenses......but being in the Army sucked). I'm thinking this kinda "rocks" so I went back to the Heilbronn record store to see if there was anything else that might be interesting...."Who is this J.L. Hooker Guy?"
Well the rest is history. I bought a Telecaster and and started plinking around. I guess I need to visit that "Crossroads" just South of Dockery Farms because I still can't play worth a damn. Oh well....I saw Hendrix and shook B.B. Kings hand so there is that
Key of F major
what key is this harmonica?
F blues, harp key: Bb!
Can you please send me one ?
Have you listened to any Little Walter by any chance? It isn't obnoxious headache harmonica, I promise. I would give it a shot. Send me a message if you want to know which songs I particularly enjoy and think that perhaps you will as well.
Here’s my version that just came out! czcams.com/video/rCMc8Hs3HTA/video.htmlsi=QbQUz0rIsKw1v92v
