Ohh wow we didn’t know that! That’s really surprising actually, makes us wonder why they changed it 🤔

My fav rival team is finally here!! Be sure to pay attention to Nekoma guys because their rivalry with Karasuno is so wholesome that you're gonna end up loving this team too 😂

Quick note: first name last name basis depends on how close they are to each other - it's a japanese thing and very important thing based on respect. Hinata is younger than Kenma (you see how he panicked when learning Kenma is older, cause he spoke to him as he would to an equal - which would be seen as rude). Nishinoya calls all of his second year peers by their first name, cause he's good friends with them (as well as he's the only one on the team to call Hinata by his first name - they just clicked very well. Yet he would not call either Tsukki or Kageyama by their first name - there's a boundary.) Everyone younger on the team call the third years by their first name with added -san, which is an honorific of respect, as - they're friends, but acknowledging these guys are older (with two exceptions: Suga being called that by everyone, by his nickname, and Kageyama, who even when allowed, calls third years by their last name + san. He's a very respectful guy 😁). Older and not well known people calling others or younger people by their first name or nickname could be seen as rude, disrespectful and sometimes even as mocking.
Same with other ways to show respect - like third years are the one to use showers first, cause they're older or - back in episodes when Daichi bought them all food and Hinata got caught munching before others - they're also expected to start eating before others (again, as a sign of respect).
I'm not an expert about any of this, but it fascinates me, how easy it is to see bonds between characters in anime this much grounded in japanese reality. And also how it can evolve in time.

Really appreciate the explanation! I (Lisa) didn’t know the first name last name basis depended on how close people were to each other. I always thought it had to do with age only (but that was prob bc I was just basing it off of how it is in my culture with our honorifics lol) That’s interesting tho!
Also definitely agree with your last point - we love how connected anime is to reality. Tbh we first learned about Japanese culture through seeing it in anime! 😄

His first name is indeed Shoyo. People who are the same age or close friends/relatives use first name. Since it’s a club everyone within Karasuno tends to use last names except Asahi, Tanaka + Noya with each other and the other second years, and Noya usually uses Shoyo too

    Haikyuu Trivia!
Furudate, the author, used to draw horror manga before Haikyuu so that's why we have some little references like that scene about the ghost child 😂

Shonen is the category/demographic, main focus is young boys. Other categories are Shojo(young girls), Josei and Seinen(both for young adults and adults, Josei target audience is women and seinen is men).
The genres can be slice of life, coming of age, comedy, horror, etc
Haikyuu’s genres are sports, comedy and coming of age.

is not just Our team member's name you have to pay attention to, but also all of the opponent's team members, especially the ones that have so much build-up and screen time that potentially gonna be our next opposing team to fight against in the future.
FYI, Kenma's team is in Tokyo prefecture, and Karasuno is in Miyagi prefecture. So except for the training match, they won't face each other in the official game unless they both manage to get to the national-level match.
