Maybe consider doing an Ask Me Anything episode when we get to pry into some of the oopsies, bloopers, mistakes, headaches, and regrets of your projects. We all know that the stuff off camera isn't all polish and success, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to be aware of the pitfalls of some of these types of endeavors. I can barely imagine the headache I'd make for myself doing this same job. You tipped over the one carb during disassembly and two little pins fell out and my brain went, "WHERE DID THOSE COME FROM?!?" I love watching this work though! Very inspiring, very informative. But what is a minor road block and delay for you would probably put the project on hold for no less than a few days for me, haha. Cheers!!
Those bearings you were talking about are critical. They act as ball checks in the bottom of the accerator pump. You leave them out and you will have a really bad hesitation when you hit the throttle. Many years ago (1975) I rebuilt my carburetor on my GTO with a friend and that ball check was left out. Bad, bad hesitation. Borrowed another carburetor from a friend so I could go get married. Rebuilt the original after the honeymoon, discovered the missing ball check. Sorry about the long post.

So strange to me to see you beautify the outside of the carb, but leave all the corrosion on the inside bits. My style is just different - I would have had the insides as beautiful as the outsides lol. Nice work though, they look amazing.
I had no idea this build was going to go this far and all I can say is it’s super badass. My personal preference would be smaller wheels from that era, such as celica Supra wheels or something else in a 14, but either way this truck is sick and there’s a lot here that I’m going to consider for my 81 celica.

Cylinder capacity and maximum revs required gives you venturi size required. Lots of charts available if you google. If you are running high revs 40mm will be to small for 2.4L. I currently run 38mm venturi in a 45mm carby on a 2 L. A 45mm carby may be ok but if a really good motor I would think about 48mm Carby. They are a bit harder to find though. And for those who are new to side draught carbys there is a maximum venturi size you can fit in a carby size.
Also a bit hard to tell on viewing I hope the inside of those carbs are clean of what looks like loose corrosion. The outside looks terrific.
I like seeing carbs being rebuilt, it's amazing how they work, almost like magic.
They are cool.
Surely at this point those wheels have to change to bronze! Will complement the patina and fit in with the rest of the theme so much more

Love this idea of painting the DOCEs, and love the look of black wrinkle paint I spotted someone else used. But I'm thinking an etch primer might be required to keep the paint on the muck-metal when exposed to heat and solvents long term.
Get a clear 3/16 hose from the hardware store possible around 10 to 12 feet. 2 teets an to elbow, find a board and assemble. 4 long ends fill hose using a colored liquid best is DeX oil .drill and tap intake in all the runners install a vacuum fitting. Use the clear hoses and liquid to balance carbs .it will work as a mercury balance tool. Look up motorcycle carbs balance instructions. Good luck Luis

If you haven’t already you might consider getting a wide band O2 sensor and gauge to help you tune these carbs. It really helped me get mine running right. It’s so nice to just see what’s happening, instantly, for all the various load cases and conditions.

@@austinniemela I ran one from innovate motor sports; at the time (about 10 yrs ago, wow time flies) it was one of the better options for the money, but there are a lot of options these days. Always worked well for me though my buddy got the same gage at the same time and his died after a couple of years.
I had a set of triple Weber’s on my Aussie 265ci Hemi6 cylinder . Ooo the tuning was relentless.
Then went Turbo injected, best reliability ever. But the triples looked and sounded cooler than a big beard dragger.
It's been so long since I rebuilt carbs, I almost forgot how "fun" it was :) JB weld is what I use to fix pitting in those pot metal parts - works like a charm!
Absolutely Love the look of the carbs, throw some red filters on there for the accent, Would pop so nicely.
Colors make me think of steampunk art 😉. Nice work on the build and looking forward when the engine is back in the car. I like the introduction to Cerakote; pricey but seems to have a high paint coverage. Keep it up!

You should have done the hardware in red. Simple colour scheme that is looking amazing dude! Cannot wait to see it done.
Just random thought as I was commenting...I mentioned earlier white edging on the door cards to help separate then from the rest of the door...maybe bronze or red would be better??! Black and red is classic but maybe a bit cliché though...

Those are Webers. Sidedraft just means they are horizontal.
What's your opinion in 12R engine?????

I think 40’s are too small for a 2.4L engine, they’re usually used on much smaller engines, 45’s would be a better choice but let’s see how it goes…
You’re also missing mini velocity stacks that fit inside those air filters.

Niceee. That Bronze is a sweet color....now you gotta do over the oil pan to match lol
Bronze is great but colored oil pans serve no purpose especially on a lowered car.

Hey Austin... still a little disappointed you're not gonna use some kind of forced induction.... but hey... twin 40 side drafts, mega cool 😎😎😎,I cut my teeth modifying with VW mk1 golf gti's (or as you call them, rabbits), and I ripped out the k-tronic injection and replaced with some twin 40's.... the induction noise is something else!!! You may be a little young for this reference, but I got some little stickers for the bottom of my number plates saying 'More throat than Linda Lovelace'.... those that know will know, lol 😉🤣🤣

Keep it NA. The gains aren't worth the money. R engines are a lot of things but high power motors they are not. No need to try and turn them into something they are not.
