It covers more than 70% of the earths surface. The ocean is the planet's lifeblood but its being transformed by climate change. Colonies of tiny animals, corals host one in four of all marine species, but they're dying. Over half are gone already the rest facing extinction on a scale that could lead to devastating changes for the ocean, the planet, and everyone on it.

Dr Ruth Gates' work on "super corals" is awesome. I hope it will help recover the reefs we have lost all over the world. I was very sad to hear that she passed away last month. Rest in peace Ruth - you are an inspiration to us. I have also started to do my (small) part!
Good film. I would have liked to see more of an explanation of what corals are and the effects of their disappearance. But seeing what is being done to save them is great. Hagedorn and Gates' work is commendable
It did touch on that a bit in passing. If I'm not mistaken, it was mentioned that coral reefs serve as an underwater bulwark against oceanic storms that can accelerate coastal erosion. And if left unchecked, will eventually pose a direct threat the communities that are built along the coasts.

As professional mariners we all have a duty to be stewards of the sea. In addition, to share our nautical experience and knowledge with youth. As a Fleet Officer for Sea Scouts this will make a good presentation. Thanks Economist.

The Video is extraordinarily informational about how some smart people are looking to protect and ave coral, but not stop climate change, that will take all of us. I did think it was cool how they try to accelerate evolution of corals so they could handle the warming oceans.

Good news: the Chinese government is building military bases on thousands of corals in SCS.
I believe that the man is exaggerating his hardship: "If I cannot find fish, then family is not going to survive much in Palau." This man, drives a gas boat, wears proper swim suit and his fishing tool is a spear?! Really? Is that the true story? If it is, please give more details and data. If not, then does it mean the filmmakers are telling a "not so true" story, in order to guide audiences to a "not so objective" conclusion?
Agreed. It's not like a working man to exaggerate his woes. And he said it's because of overfishing, not climate change.
