I’m not Jewish but am committed to learning the TaNaKh as authentically as I can. One of my specific struggles is understanding the difference between Midrash and Gemara …or are they the same
I have a message that I’m sharing where I can, some may not want to hear this, but I ask that we stay polite and seek truth together. 😊 Love is an action, protect the vulnerable, defend the weak, feed the homeless, father the orphan, mourn with those who mourn Read the Word for yourself, not only relying on others for guidance. Pray for guidance.Yahushua/Yeshua - His Hebrew name who is usually called (Jesus) taught to keep the whole Word. Including the Law/Torah. Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [g]the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [h]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [i]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." So Midrash would be like my Rabbi explaining that Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth, would be referring to God creating time, space, and matter? An explanation (interpretation) of the scripture?
this is a good try but there is more useful explanation on CZcams. For instance look at Rabbi Michael Skobac's posts, especially one entitled "are we supposed to believe that?"
To inqiure as ideal translation/ tincturing of meaning of midrash, it reminds me of (I think) R.Skobac saying that Judaism holds most wise the ones who ask the best questions, rather than one who gives the best answers.
Most of the times, what ever is happening behind the scenes that the spectators are not able to enjoy, that's the roll of the midrash, to tell you that part
Could Midrash be described as The Integrety of The WORD ...who is ACTUALLY a PERSON ...EACH Word OF THE Word is Contained within EACH Word ...& understanding comes uniquely by revelation to the PERSON "listening" OR being SPIRITUALLY nourished...?
According to Book of Jasher, Avraham was never an idolator; he walked with Yihweh since he was 3 years old, was raised in a cave and tutored by Shem and i think another Genesis figure.
Blessing in Jesus, the best explanation of midrash is by brother Jacob Prasch, Midrash; Jesus in the garden, on you tube. He is a very good teacher of the word, his ministry is Moriel, which means God is my teacher, I hope this will help my fellow christian in Christ to a better understanding of scriptures. May the Lord's love and Grace be with you Amen
It’s not that difficult to explain come on. This rabbi is way over complicating it. It’s the rabbis interpretation of other texts. That’s it. No mystery.
