    "Finlands sak är vår" = "Finlands cause is our cause" was the paroll of Sweden when Soviet attacked Finland 1939. Swedish volunteers went over to fight with Finland against the Soviet invasion, and resulted in 10,000 applicants, of which 8,000 eventually were sent to Finland. In addition Sweden provided economic aid, clothing assistance and medical personnel and took in tens of thousands of "war children", children sent to Sweden by their parents to live in freedom and to be safe from war.
    I'm a Swedish Xellennial but we still use the expression "Finlands sak är vår".
    "The general consensus among the Swedish people was that Sweden should join their "brotherland's" fight against the Soviet colossus and the pressure on the Swedish government became enormous. The government was however determined to remain officially neutral in the conflict so support for their neighbours had to be arranged in more inconspicuous ways. The whole country began organising its industries and workers to support the Finnish war effort. At many theatre shows and other events held during this time, the price for entry was "one winter coat to send to Finland" and all salaries payed out on Good Friday in March was collectively elected to be sent to Finland. Uniforms and other military gear were sewn in homes and factories all over the country and weapons and aircraft suddenly "disappeared" from the Swedish military records to be sent up north. The whole country basically stopped to aid the Finnish mobilization."

    The Nordic countries basically have banter with each other, like best friends. We are like siblings, we are the same but a bit different, we love each other like siblings, but we also have a relationship with each other just like siblings, sometimes we make fun of each other, sometimes we are jealous of each other, sometimes we banter, sometimes we feel competition with each other, but we feel a connection to each other and we love each other, and if someone comes after us, or something happens we're family in an instant and there for each other. We are brothers. We have fought, but we're family.

      There used to be finnish edjucation even finnish schools at 80s & 90s when there were lots of finnish workers with them families. Many came back to Finland later and less people had to leave in to Sweden to have work so the need of finnish edjucation has dropped and it mighr be harder to find teatchers to teach finnish language too.
      I lived with my mother 2 years in Stockholm as i were a toddler (early 80s). My friend lived with his family in Södertälje and he was first two years/grades in finnish school there.
      Even that i didn´t live there very long and i was very little i still have lots of memories from that time. Now every time as i travel to Sweden and the cruise ship gets closer and i can see the two towers in Nacka, i feel like i´m comming back home.

    As a Swede my point of view is obviously from 1 side here, but anyway:
    It seems to me that Finland has this deep-rooted need to show and prove how good they are, especially to Sweden. It is best likened to the relationship between a very successful older brother and a younger brother that is also successful, but is often stuck in the shade of the other. This leads to rivalry, with a bit of resentment sprinkled in. Every time Sweden wins something against Finland it is a catastrophe for the Finns because we are the closest rival to them.
    Finns are acutely aware of our shared history, but in Sweden we actually don't linger too long on this subject, at least not in school. I find this to be a shame as our 2 peoples have stood together for hundreds of years. Even today Finland and Sweden have probably the closest linked military cooperation in the world. Finns and Swedes, at least in my opinion, go better together than Swedes do with Norwegians and Danes, at least in work settings.

    "Mitt sa' finnen om Stockholm" or "Mine, said the Finn about Stockholm". Even today it is said that the best thing about Helsinki is that it is so conveniently close to Stockholm. We have formed a single kingdom with the Swedes, and that has been a fortunate thing in every respect. Just today I paid attention to a work of art in the middle of Helsinki; a modern sculpture with a text 'Finland, Sweden, common future'.

    You should see some of the jokes Swedes have made of Finns, and here they are: "Partaj - Jarmo Bastuklubben". Jarmo character there is based on a Finnish actor Jarmo Mäkinen, who has done tough guy/bad guy roles in Sweden, and who tells here, that he's just an actor: "Jarmos bekännelse". Touko "Tom of Finland" Laaksonen was a Finn. You might assume he was a Swede, but no, he was a Finn. If he would have been a Swede, his artwork would probably have been something like what you can see in the My Little Ponies catalogue. Here the Swedish royal family spends Xmas in a Finnish commercial: "Prisma joulu". Thanks to the comedy group Kummeli, we have learned some key characteristics of other nations. In this music quiz the purpose is to guess from which country the song is from: "Kummeli Musavisa Irish O Irish".

    2:11 No, Sweden was not really a *very* christian nation. Swedes had plenty of contact with the Finns long before the Viking age or middle ages though. Especially if we talk about Sweden proper, i.e. Svealand. So when Sweden (Svealand and Götaland) became fully unified in the 1200s, it was natural to also include Finland in the new unified kingdom. Pretty similar to how Norrland was included. Finland was still part of Sweden as late as 1809, when it was lost in a war with Russia.

    The First Swedish Crusade was a mythical military expedition in the 1150s. The crusade has traditionally been seen as the first attempt of the Catholic Church and Sweden to convert pagan Finns to Christianity. However, the Christianisation of Southwestern Finland is known to have already started in 10th century, and in the 12th century, the area was probably almost entirely Christian.
    Also, academics debate whether this crusade actually took place. No archaeological data gives any support for it, and the earliest written sources are from much later. No surviving written source describes Swedish influence in Finland before the end of the 13th Century.

    • @sampohonkala4195
      @sampohonkala4195 Před 10 měsíci +2

      True for the most part, but several written sources confirm that Finland started paying part of the former church tax to the king of Sweden in 1249, when also a new bishop, relative of the king started his term in Turku, Finland.
      Finland has never been a colony of Sweden in the proper meaning of the word. The Finnish Catholic church was part of the Swedish church organization before Finland was properly incorporated into the Swedish kingdom - which was a fairly loose collection of self governing 'lands' before the mid 1200's. Uppland, Norrland, Svealand and Finland etc. were all 'colonized' then in the sense that they lost their independent status or what was left of it, when the king managed to gain the ultimate power of Sweden.
      It is another thing that people moved from Swedish speaking Sweden to the Eastern side of the sea to formerly Finnish speaking Finland, but the status of the people was exactly the same, it made no difference what language you spoke. The Swedish law was the same for all. Finland was just like any part of Sweden, only the majority of the people spoke another language.

    As a finn, one should put history in perspective. Before there was barely anything in Finland 11-1200AD (Before Turku even had a castle, maybe 50k inhabitants in the land) Swedes came over and pretty much started the country and built it for over 700 years. All the bureaucracy was "swedish". There wasn't even a written finnish language before 1550 (spoken though for decades) and the two first finnish books were printed in Stockholm. After Finland "became a place on the map" russians invaded (1808), ruled for about 100y after wich Finland became its own country, roughly speaking. So last 1000 years Finland has been 14% "nomansland", 66% Sweden, 10% Russia (this was occupation) and 10% Finland (independent).

And trust me, when I say, that my Favourite joke ever told, was by a Norwegian guy. "Why does the Swedes live in Sweden and the Camels in the Deserts? ... The Camels got to choose first." Also the people in the South of Sweden are Ethnically Danes, and we'd rather be part of Denmark again, than part of the hellhole that be Sweden.

      Ethnically Danes? There are hardly any genetically "Danes" (from the 1600s) left in Skåne. They either fled after the danish defeat or got incorporated to the Swedish army and sent to Baltikum to never come back or brutally smashed down to death by the swedes. So no you are most definitely not a Dane either ethnically nor genetically lol. You need to read history.

    My perception is that we Swedes like our neighboring countries more than they like us. I'm actually fine with it, I sort of get why. There's so much we do in Sweden that doesn't make any sense and I don't think there's been a full week where I didn't feel ashamed for something that has happened, usually it's within politics but also within our judiciary, that's kind of a joke too. We have incredibly good conditions and still we somehow can't navigate this extremely easy life.
    I'm usually a pretty positive person but in this specific matter I unfortunately don't think we have a very bright future ahead, at least it's not looking very good. It's a nation full of morons that's for sure, naive and gullible to the extent we rather live in a lie than deal with uncomfortable truths. We're like small children where we find the slightest scrutiny to be so unbearable we're even prepared to sacrifice our own national security to avoid dealing with it.
    Too many people in Sweden won't stand up for the right thing if their self image is at a risk of being shattered, that's how bad it's gotten. Is it out of spinelessness or selfishness I can't really say, nor know which is worse. Whatever the future holds for us I'm absolutely sure we deserve it.

    Sweden was also pagan at one point but then someone there found religion or was it a woman at the tiny cost of bringing god to the pagans, like its part of Europes history and I assume the religion came in the same way in UK "with a chopchop sword in its hand".
    Then that map lies, like parts of today's Finland was part of Kingdom of Sweden back then before Sweden had spread to the northern parts of today's Sweden. I think there was even a war between Southern Sweden/Finland and today's northern Sweden/Finland.
    Like the tribes here in the Nordic countries probably felt the same way as everyone in Europe when Rome came to spread their message of love. Many finns do have a version that we some how would have been united but it was the religion and Kingdom of Sweden that brought "civilization" here, yes a peasant back in the day probably didn't like their position when before that "blessing from god" they just lived their lives without someone poking at the with a stick(I really can't imagine how bad it was for common people back then but I assume that if they hanged people for doing strange stuff then it probably wasn't that great). We should just be happy that it was the Swedes that came first and not the Slavs, because there is nothing left of the finno ugric people on the Slavic side some Uralic people have still survived because they live in conditions that very few people can take, a bit like us in Finland. Was too cold for the Slavs so they just weren't able to "force convert" like the other Finno Ugric tribes between today's Muscow and St' Petersburg.
    My point is that some finns have problems to understand what was done by Sweden and what was done everywhere in Europe by kings, queens and nobles in the name of the all mighty god. In the end it was a positive thing and there weren't that much fighting compared to the rest of Europe, things spread here faster and much of what we have today has grown from them coming over here. Like all we need to do is look to the east and see what could have been. Thinking that a spot on this planet wouldn't have been claimed by an inbreed on a throne is living in fantasy land, like they even claimed the desert in Africa.

    • @amadeuz819
      @amadeuz819 Před 4 měsíci

      Still they didn't "own" us, we became the same country just that the nobles and leaders had to learn Swedish. Like Sweden itself today is a mix of Finno Ugric people and Scandinavian, like on gene tests you see that Norway and Sweden is heavily mixed while Denmark is a lot less but also they have it in places where trading towns were located back in the day. There has been waves of people moving to Sweden, moving to Finland, moving to Sweden, moving to Finland and so on. So even if I am 34% Karelian I had a tint of Scandinavian blood, I speak FinSwe and 1 of my ancestors are from Sweden but his ancestor was from Finland so try to untangle that when there is not a 3000 year old history of every person alive. I do know that we have highest light hair and light eye color here in Finland and Estonia(if you don't include red then Island and Norway tops it I think) so I assume its a thing carried by the people coming from Asia because among the other Germanic groups its very low so why would Scandinavians suddenly change their genes except if there was a crazy person ruling that sterilized everyone not carrying the light color gene. So my point is that many waves of finns have relocated in central Sweden and its ruled from there so it was really finns speaking Swedish that ruled.

The Finnish farmers in Finland did not lose their land at any point; Finland had its representatives in the Swedish house of Estates. Finns also lived in the towns and cities and formed the city councils; Turku remained Finnish speaking and was the third largest city of Sweden. When Finnic and Scandinavian people first came into contact there was no religions. Not 100% sure now but I think it was the vikings that came into contact with religions and over the year then adapted it to an area in Sweden. So they started with the pagans on their side and then sailed to our side to spread the joy of feel the love of god either from a sharp blade or kneeling down(the love of god is so great that people lost their heads from the power of that love).
    So the rough answer would be that it came there first and then as all religions, they just love to spread the love of their religion by using violence.
    Edit: There was Scandinavian presence in Finland before Sweden existed so hes not completely correct as there was Finnic presence in today's Sweden before Sweden existed.

    To your question about was Sweden a Christian country? And did that have to do with their invading Finland their neighbor? Simple answered in the words of truth of the scriptures from the Bible. And from the same words that spoke all into existence. Love thy neighbor as thyself!! Pray for those who persecute you, and bless those who curse you! Love thy enemy. If we love only those who love us, even the pagans do that. Deal with those without understanding with understanding knowing that you to were once without understanding(👈🏻Which is a free gift from our creator above to those who seek with faith). Seek and ye shall find!! Easy as that for who who has faith and asks for nothing stands in the way of who spoke all into existence HalleluYahuah!! But don’t trust me test and pray and ask to see!! And if you pay attention and listen to what God/Aluahim answers if you ask with faith you will be shown freely in spiritual truth also!! But would you see the savior who laid his life down on the cross for others sins operate that way to get others to see? Or would he be a light exactly how he walked healing, serving, loving, and patiently suffering for others with grace?!! Blessings 🙏🏼
