If Atlus releases "The Answer" and "Female MC Route" as paid DLC im fine. If they make another new re-release version with those things added i will get mad tho.

Was saving for a ps5 but I had to quit my job but I can enjoy myself a little longer with reload without feeling left out
youve had 4 years to save up like 300 dollars/ 250 pounds and theres been sales

@@sneaky5141 understand where you're coming from but even with saving some money here and there it's eventually used for other things for me to live. I still can't even get persona 3 because something always come up. At this point the ps5 is not worth it anymore until they shut down servers for p4. Happy for those others who can save enough to get it tho

about 10 hours into this, and enjoying it so far. But, what I wonder, Derek, is:
Did they flesh out the antagonists more in this remake?
One of the weaknesses of the original P3 that many critics point out is how the antagonists are just kinda there to block the way. Regardless, the messages, themes, and protagonists' developments have all been executed very well.
So here's the thing, I haven't played the base version this far for about 8 years, and I feel like Strega never "made sense" to me much in the past, but this time around I do think I understand them more. Not sure if that's just me being 8 years older, or if they added new scenes... I _think_ they did some new stuff though, because I saw stuff I didn't remember seeing before. Not sure about other antagonists though yet.

Reload does look amazing, but it does slightly irk me that we now have a third bespoke version of P3 instead of having a definitive one.
...granted I'm still gonna play through all three because they're awesome

I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't buy dlcs for The Answer and a Femc one as well if that gets released down the line
There are rumors that The Answer being a DLC option was leaked. No idea if there's any truth to that. The FeMC route would also be a nice addition too. :)
I had a difficult time playing this on PSP a few months back. I was really put off by how long you spent outside of battle, but after binging about 4 LoH games and Atelier Ayesha I think I'll be able to enjoy this.
The psp version is actually pretty good.. I haven’t played the new one yet but I’m sure they’ve tweaked and updated it in a great way
So hyped ❤ this game first Persona game I ever played it was something else! So different from what I had been played before! Waiting on my copy!

When it comes to persona there's also the unofficial versions (aka rom hacks) that you can also throw into the mix. Persona 3 Fes just got a new one that allows full party control. Which leaves the only thing missing is the female protagonist. Persona 3 reload from what I hear however will flesh out the villains better than the original. I'll definitely be getting Persona 3 reload but after I beat either the fes or portable version.
it also fleshes out some of the social links more so far, and other members of the SEES. And honestly, all of the new gameplay mechanics are so incredibly nice to have! And tartarus not just looking like randomly placed hallways of blocks is huge for my enjoyment as well. :)
I kind of thought they'd remove or modify the gun to the head thing but nope, happy to see they leaned alllll the way into it! That would have neutered the dark edge that P3 has.
Reminds me of Cloud cross-dressing in FF7. I thought that would be toned down in the Remake but they went all out. Japanese devs just don't care about offending and it's refreshing.
When I heard they were remaking it my first thought was Tartarus. “Maaaaaaan, I do not wanna do That again.”
My favorite P3 song is def “Memories of the City”. I heard a guitarist named Ferdk play a cover of it and it’s what convinced me to finally try the game. Obviously ended up loving the game.
That was kind of my first thought too. That feeling definitely subsided when I actually got hands-on again. Straight up hooked me all over again.
I'm quite confident they will release an enhanced version of Persona 3 Reload.

It's _possible_ I'd say. But if you're going to pick up the game, be sure to get it for what it _is_ and not for what it might become, would be my recommendation. I'd rather be happily surprised by the DLC being an option down the road than buy the game then be disappointed if it never happens, ya know?
I didn't play original Persona 3, but I played Persona 5. Now I'm playing Persona 3 Reload, and I would like to say that I like this game, but I like Persona 5 more. I don't know the whole plot of Persona 3 right now so I will not comment this part of game, but if we talk about design, music, social interactions with your teammates and other people, your possibilites in the game world - in all these part Persona 5 are better, on my opinion.
Only thing I'm aftaid of is Atlus releasing a P3 Reload FES down the line 😭
Sounds like "The Answer" will be DLC according to several comments around here. I haven't looked into it yet though, but that sounds promising! :)

I think a major flaw of the game is its difficulty. I've been playing it on hard and its been a cakewalk. Persona 5 with all its ingame perks and boons was still harder than this with less. Kind of a bummer. Maybe merciless is the way to go.

Isn't deciding if it is the definitive persona 3 kind of dependent on what one consuders persona 3 to be? I mean, is p3 the game as it was originally released or is it the included endings in fez or portable. Adter all, fez and portable both added stuff that wasn't in the other... truth be told - what IS persona 3? There have now been 4 versions of it and none are totally in agreement with each other. Its tge hitchhikers guide to the galaxy of games.
I think reload is excellent. For me it is definitive. But yo others who knows.
Yep! The videos I make rarely try to tell others what to think, but rather to provide the information needed for people to make that decision for themselves, and maybe offer my own take at the end.
Is it the definitive version _I_ always asked for? Not quite, but I think it's still the best version. :)
@@SuperDerek For me... Yeah, P3R is the definitive version. It lcks some of the content of Portable and Fez but the quality of life improvements put it well over the top. But I can grok that others might have a different take than me.
@@TimothyCollins I think we're in complete agreement here actually. For some extra context, for the last couple years I've made a few videos talking about what I'd want to see in a persona 3 definitive edition, and that list included some things omitted. So categorically, this isn't the one that "I've been asking for" but it's still incredible and easily the best version. Hope that context helps explain what I was getting at. :)

It's weird seeing so much hype around this. It makes me happy and I'm looking forward to playing it, but I really miss the days before Persona (and Atlus games in general) were all popular in the west...
(I mean, I like sharing the things that I enjoy, but nowadays there always just seems to be this huge influx of people who just latch onto things and immediately act like experts, complain about things like "representation", demand companies start making games for them, or just muddy up the fun, dedicated group, we had before their arrival.)
I know what you mean. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy that Persona has gotten the popularity it deserves, to the point where we even got Persona 3 Reload in the first place... But at the same time, I do feel like we lost something along the way.
Not to be all "I liked Persona 3 before Persona got popular", but things felt different back when I was playing it in my room on my PS2 at midnight, all those years ago.

I’m totally cool if I’m the only one… but am I the only one that didn’t like The Answer? It reminded me of when people raged at ff10, and demanded it be “changed.” Then we got 10-2. I love the ending of P3, and I feel like when you look back on the whole point of the story, it had to end that way. Then I felt The Answer cheapened that experience. Cheapened the lesson a young player walked away with, which resonated with real life experiences. Does this make sense? Am I the only one? Not to hate on anyone that liked it, same with 10-2 (loved the combat system)
Nah, I made a video about "The Answer" years ago basically saying that it didn't really feel true to the character development established throughout Persona 3's "The Journey". And also it was a brutally frustrating experience.

The Answer was not that great and had many issues. But this is a remake they don't need to keep things the exact same. They could have improved The Answer to make it more interesting and made it better if they wanted to. This said i'm just happy we got a remake.
@@MeldinX2 yeah, you'd think that. But honestly I bet a LOT of people would be equally dismayed, even if it were improved in every way.
As pretty and good as this game looks, I will likely not be buying it. I will stick with the Portable version. I loved the characters and voice actors in the Portable version, and them being recast doesn't feel good to me. Especially, I am not a fan of Yong's "voice acting" at all. If I ever do play this, it will be the first time I play in Japanese.

Why swap a renowned actor who plays one of the main characters in the original version for an inexperienced wannabe who hijacks these roles just to feel good about himself when his talent doesn't even compare?
Probably because Liam is 18 years older than he used to be, costs more _because_ of his renown, and does a better job sounding like the 40-something police officer than a teenager. The new VA might not hold a candle to your nostalgia, but that's a pretty unfair standard. I think he did a great job, all things considered.
@@SuperDerekFair. I see now what you mean by "passing the torch". However, I still think Liam O'Brien would play a great, or at least better Akihiko, his voice is simply timeless.
I don't talk about personal, nostalgic value, I agree that this is unattainable and unfair as a parameter. It's not about nostalgia, it's about quality. I think the other VA sounds more like a surly cop than a teenager.

FemC and the answer are over-rated.
Especially the answer. Most people hated it back when FES came out. I remember all the complaints (many were justified) because Aigis got no social links, and it was basically just a dungeon run with a few cut scenes. People seem to only want it because it exists, not because it added much of value....FemC was popular, but it wasnt THAT great. Really she was just a hook to get people interested to make up for the game being more visual novel. Adding her in a fully realized game would be re-recording a majority of the social link voice lines, her own voice, and rendering her in all the locales and cutscenes. Thats WAY too much work, and cost for a fad.
Why people can't just be happy with an amped up version of the original classic, which was the BEST of it all and something we are lucky was even made, is a mystery to me.

@@adityatantra1982 Been playing it since last night, and I have to say people who skipped it because of it missing Femc or the answer really did themselves an injustice. The game is incredible. I expected it to just be a new UI and coat of paint with new VAs, but its WAY more than just that!
And for those who got the DLC, do they not look better in the phantom thieves suits than the actual phantom thieves do? LOL.

It's a terrible remake. The atmosphere is completely destroyed.
