St. Brigid's Cross - Made from Rushes and Sallies

  • Here’s a 12 minute recording of me making a little St. Brigid’s Cross out of sallies and rushes that I cut in Ballinacoola Well today. This is rough and ready recording and was filmed by my 10 year daughter on my phone. I don’t have time to do detailed shoot/edit so hopefully this is enough for some of you to get the picture. I was shown this design by a man from east Galway called Jim Gavin back in October 2019 and its a lovely little cross if you are looking for a different design.     Sally is the Willow, Latin Salix.

    Go raibh míle maith agat! I had to start 3 times but eventually understood the method of wrapping the rushes in the correct way thanks to your wonderful tutorial.

    Thank you for these wonderful videos! I've made three crosses so far! Can you telly me what kind of plants Sallies are? I'm in Victoria Canada. Have plenty of rushes in my yard, just by luck. Thank you!
