    It dawned on me that when Casey Becker lied to Ghostface on the phone that she did not have a boyfriend during the opening scene, this was the trigger that probably would have confirmed her fate. When Ghostface said that they wanted to play a game, maybe this was the test. Not only did Casey leave Stu for Steven Orth (and possibly cheated on Stu) but she was also willing to feign the possibility of her cheating on Steven which would have intensified the rage in both Billy and Stu.
    From Billy's perspective, this would have mirrored how his father (Hank Loomis) cheated on his mother with Maureen Prescott.
    The opening scene is actually more subversive than it seems and it subtly sheds a light on the motivations of Billy or Stu in this scene. Although it is likely that Billy and Stu were still planning Casey's death but the brutality may have been amplified because of this possible motivation.

      I agree that her denying she had a boyfriend would have really annoyed them. Billy would have associated her with Maureen and it would have been like a red flag. Stu would have been furious too not just that she cheated but she lied to him and neglected him that would have set stu off. Although I’m sure Casey was going to die, I think stu took his time with her making her suffer. He was particularly nasty to her as hanged her out of spite and to show her parents.

    I don't think Billy ever had any intention of letting Stu live, which is evident in the final scene where they each take turns stabbing one another. Billy's initial stab to Stu, and all subsequent attacks, is anything but the 'stay to the side and don't go too deep' instruction he gives Stu. Stu's stab to Billy is much more precise without causing grievous injury. It goes without saying that Stu was in pretty bad shape before Sidney finished him off.

    Stu and Billy always gave me Leopold and Loeb vibes. Especially because Stu's motivation seems to be to curry favor with Billy. If you add in neglect from his parents maybe having Billy in his life was even more important because he didn't have his parent's love and therfore Billy's "love" was all important to him.

    Have you ever considered that Maureen's death was Billy's plan in action but the kills of Scream were all Stu's plan and Billy went along with it because Stu had helped him frame Cotton and knew who the real killer was?
    Perhaps it's time to stop looking at Stu as the sidekick and as the mastermind.
    Roman might have told Billy to get an accomplice but if the police came knocking Stu wasn't the one with the motive Billy was. Stu was setting Billy up to be his fall guy the entire time not the other way around and when it came time he was prepared to turn on Billy and let him take the blame for it all while Stu survived and planned his sequel.

    I think Stu became forgotten for a simple reason: he actually survived and his wealthy parents paid the police to cover it up. As far as how Stu could have beaten whatever charges were thrown at him: that's simple too, he could have gone witness for the prosecution, sold out Billy and gotten off with little to no jail time, which would be ironic since Billy's plan was to sell out Stu if he got caught (as revealed by the real mastermind Roman Bridger, director...and Sidney's brother).

    • @jessebaker2769
      @jessebaker2769 Před 6 měsíci

      I think it's more Stu being forgotten because (until Scream 5 confirmed he was dead as an Easter egg visual), they were wanting to keep him open for usage down the line after they forgot to confirm his death in the first film. Especially since it's well known that they planned on bringing him back for Scream 3 until studios axed the original plan for the film due to Columbine.
      I've always taken the stance that Stu was put into a coma when the TV fell on his head as a way to bring him back down the line, as far as the character being in a coma and written off as far as suffering irreversible brain damage meaning he would never wake up (or at least be comatose until the series needed him to return). Which would explain why there was no trial if he lived (as a trial would have consumed all of Sydney and the others free time meaning her and Randy couldn't go to college) let alone Gail getting Cotton out of jail as quickly as she did after Scream 1 since I'm sure Stu would have denied his confession to Sydney that he and Billy framed Cotton purely for the evilulz.
      Ironically, in-universe, infamous hack director Rian Johnson is implied to have brought Stu back for the Stab movie that set off the events of Scream 5 as Lillard voiced Ghostface in the clip that was shown in Scream 5 as far as Stu returning to kill people as a flamethrower wielding Ghostface.

    • @MrRockstar402
      @MrRockstar402 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@jessebaker2769 that visual was in 6 and there's a simple explanation for why that's not a confirmation: it's established that Stu's parents were wealthy enough to have him declared dead and then kept him in hiding all this time. Gale even implies that with her "cops like money" line. And the dialogue during Ghostface's call with Gale has Stu written all over it, in fact, most believe Stu was the one who actually attacked Gale, not Quinn. And the evidence for that is pretty obvious; there's no way Quinn could have taken a cast iron skillet to the face and showed no sign of it or be strong enough to throw Gale's boyfriend through a bookcase. Stu, on the other hand, could. I've also heard theories that Stu could be working with another not-so-dead Ghostface killer: that being Charlie Walker, who like Stu is largely forgotten in universe.

    I agree that the idea of Stu being nothing but Billy's henchman is kind of untenable, in reality Stu is even more detached from reality than Billy is, he really does just act like the whole thing is a game, that they're just "playing make believe" so to speak, at least Billy has the sense to not explain how to kill someone in the manner of the killer days after carrying out the murder! Stu is completely in lala land.
    I've heard some psychologists refer to Stu as a pseudo-psychopath, this is apparently a kind of psycho that is caused by head trauma and damage to the prefrontal cortex, which affects your judgement. So my head cannon is that Stu was neglected by his family and suffered some kind of head trauma, by accident or from his father, or maybe even Billy many years prior if they were friends for a long time.

The babysitter could've covered it up by taking him to a hospital outside Woodsboro so his parents wouldn't find out

    His parents failed him and favoured his sister. While neglecting his emotional and physical development. I have no doubt stu was very intelligent, and a bit of a (Jester) charmer. The interrogation of stu and his background story is everything within this case! I’ve rewatched everything. In scream 6, he attacked gale using. Steady, steady, one, step, at, a, time, attack. Who taught him that? And stu’s uncomfortable in his own skin. Yet, so dangerous. This made me cry, as it wasn’t easy being strange in those times. Brain not Braun, and not yet, in-between. His dad and mum hurt him, which gave room for billy to groom and manipulate him. I need to know, was stu into homosexual acts? Did his mum turn a blind eye. Did Becker find out he liked billy and dumped him? Stu even dressed liked casey, all throughout the movie after her death. Odd. Then he comes to find out, Billy’s using him. Realising, Becker never told anybody. And finding out billy used him, after billy killed Tatum and realistically, only tatum. And everyone’s sad story is more important than his. And the thought of his parents coming home. Steady, steady. The realisation of his mum and dad broke him. After being this kind of killer!!! Is questionable. And it’s not far, fetched to question. He’s a big man now, he can look after himself, now. Stu’s so smart and intelligent, that he even knows what he’s become. Stu will always be ghost-face. Roman got to take the credit, like billy got to. Stu also killed the principal due to the principal expelling two of his close friends from school. Which billy wasn’t apart of. I believe Stu developed schizophrenia and psychosis and developed a personality mask to hide behind. I need to know his background to have better understanding of his identity.

Maybe it's just the part of the human brain that tries to detect patterns, but I can't help but see a resemblance between Lillard and Klebold (tall, lanky, bit of a goof-ball, big eyes and massive smile) as well as an eerie resemblance of the dynamic between the two sets; Billy seemed to be the one with all the rage and wanted to take it out on the world like Harris, and he appeared to be the driving force behind the massacre.
      To play armchair psychologist, I don't think Stu would have killed without Billy and I don't think Klebold would have killed without Harris.

    I always thought that stu was gay and in love with Billy. That is why stu helped billy in the killings. I think billy knew stu was in love with him and manipulated that to his advantage. In an interview with skeet and matt they hint that they played it like Billy and Stu were together. I think rage stabbing stu was him in away repressing his feelings for stu. Kevin Williamson who wrote the script is in fact gay, i think he intented that with those characters as a commentary on being gay and afraid of how people/ society along with themselves would see someone gay.

    • @TheAmateurEditor
      @TheAmateurEditor Před 3 měsíci

      I think you're doing Williamson a disservice with that theory. He's always proclaimed his love for horror/slasher and, to my knowledge at least, has never been a crusader for gay writers/characters/plots. He doesn't write gay characters any more than he writes 'straight' characters, he simply writes individuals and leaves their sexuality out of it unless it's necessary (ex. in order for the dynamic of the 5 main teens to work, they all had to be heterosexual).
      Obviously today EVERYONE has to insert 'the message' into every form of 'artistic expression' regardless of the context or the story, but this was back in the 90s were shockingly, most viewers didn't care about identity politics, they just wanted to be entertained.

      @@TheAmateurEditor kevin williamson has kinda confirmed this he said they billy and stu where based on s Nathan Freudenthal Leopold Jr. and Richard Albert Loeb two mass murderers who where in a relationship with echother and neve cambell herself saying they where "pretty confused guys" and the interviewer asked "Was Stu more in love with Billy than the other way around?" Wich neve replied "yeah , yeah , yes" . Also in scream two the way randy made a remark about billy being homo repressed . But all is said if you want to not see it that way you absolutely. (I also want to add that at emerald city comic con 2023 matthew lillard said "stu and billy where definitely gay , also i will add the intervewis and sources if you want but you can search it up as there are dozens of articles about it)

      @@AshlynxisAsh Interesting, when did Williamson say who he based the duo on? Lillard and Campbell are both very vocal SJWs, so I'm a bit apprehensive about taking their views on the subject as accurate rather than them retroactively projecting their own personal politics.
      Obviously if Williamson himself says he wrote the characters as closeted gay but it just didn't come out very well on film, then I'll have to take him at his word, but again, given the recent explosion of identity politics being the main drive for clout and relevance in Hollywood, I do have to wonder if Williamson is simply retconing this as a means to get back onto the A-List, as he's long been relegated to TV for the last 15 odd years.

    I personally believe in Scream 7, Leslie will be "back" to avenge Stu and her son, Vince.
    Maybe in her mind, Billy manipulated Stu and she blames Sam for Vince's death just because Sam is Billy's daughter and she wantst to kill everyone because she thinks it'll stop anymore Stab movies from being made and erase Ghostface for good.

I believe Matthew Lilard has stated he played the character as though he was romantically in love with Billy.
