  • Arguably one of the most durable diesel motors built, the first gen Cummins 12 valve. This 1991 Dodge Ram 250 turbo diesel Cummins has been ABANDONED and sitting for 10 years. In this video we will see if we can get it running where it has been sitting, and possibly take it for a drive… Let us know what would be good upgrades to do to this inline 6 12 valve!

What would be some good first upgrades without breaking the bank?

    • @Roost426

fuel pin (thd is nice), 3200 gov spring, tune pump and can pull it towards the head some to advance timing, find a nice used hx35 the non ic have the smallest turbo. The non IC run pretty damn strong though with these minor mods, they have larger injectors and the pump flows more than the IC. Also gonna want to get a pyro to keep an eye on things.

That truck is the typical Dodge and Cummins story. The truck is in bad shape and ready for the crusher but the Cummins never wants to give up

Wonderful you guys put her back on the road. Nothing will kill a 12v that's in a pickup truck, that motor is so understressed even when the truck is at max towing and load capacity. One of the top 10 best engines ever produced in this world!

Stumbled upon this while looking for videos on how to get a 2005 Silverado diesel my dad has sitting around running again. Thoroughly entertained from start to finish lol just maybe get a stand for your phone to get better shots in the truck cabin and you got yourself a winning formula. Keep it up.

My dad bought a 1st gen 93 new before he passed away. I inherited the truck with 50,000 miles on it and planned to use it to tow my boat, but quickly learned that his truck was a DOG! it had no power and couldn't get out of it's own way. I had a Banks conversion kit installed with intercooler etc.., but never saw much improvement. I took it to a cummings diesel mechanic shop and they told me that the transmissions were the weak link in these trucks and they could rebuild it and put a "Kit" in it and I should see better performance. After the rebuild the truck was still scary to drive. No power to merge into traffic of the freeway and forget about towing anything. This tuck was such a dog that I parked it in my shop and it has been there now for over 20 years. I had to laugh when I walked out a few weeks ago and seen that the passenger side head light bracket had dry rotted and broke. The head light is looking at the ground as if the truck itself realizes that its no good. I think that the only vehicle that has been more disappointing than this truck was the Oldsmobile Diesel that came out in the 80's. Basically a V8 gas engine that was converted to Diesel. Never could keep head bolts it that car. My dad loved diesels and bought what was available at the time. For me I have only experienced disappointment.
