Yes, "karhu puoli". It is the main version of origin of the name Kargopol. But there is one more: "Karga" means crow in old russian language, "pole" - field, "Karga pole" - crow's field. I haven't met any bears there but I like both versions :) My camera was not accustomed to such frost and regulary switched off. In Moscow winter is not so cold.
You are right, it was the coldest time of the year traditionally following the Epiphany - up to 30C if I'm not mistaken. But even such heavy frost was not a barrier for our traditional bathing in an ice-hole :) I guess such frost is a common occurence in Finland. Isn't it? :) By the way Kargopol comes from finnish "karhu puoli" - bear's side. And I agree, it is a wonderland)
Thanks a lot for your informative reply, Victor. Okay, it was very cold time at the time, I can see it from your video. :) Yes, such a heavy frost is usual in Finland too in wintertime. Sometimes almost -40 °C. The name Kargopol comes from the the Finnish words "karhu puoli"? Wow, that is nice to hear! I find this kind of things very interesting. We have a lot of similarities between Russia and Finland, for example we have same national animal (bear) and same national tree (birch). :) Teisuka
I want to add, that this town (Kargopol) on your video looks like a real winter wonderland! Truly beautiful sceneries and old-time buildings. Pleasure to see. It also seems there was a quite cold weather. May I ask how many degrees of frost? :)

Thank You! There were two annual festivals at the same time: bell-ringing and ice sculpture festivals.
Thank You, Teisuka! :-)

You need to come out to Seattle and show us how to ring our bells!

Beautiful ice-figures :) Good video!

+++++++++++++
