The thing I respect the most is that even in extreme pain after being bit by it, he takes the time to carefully put the container over it in a way that makes sure it isnt hurt. If anything, that's more impressive than not cursing
it's more admirable too. it shows that he really cares about animals, no matter what they look like or if they hurt him

Two days ago I got bit by a smaller one, man it's the worst pain ever. I couldn't sleep, the pain was coming and going like a sinus wave. I'd say 7-8/10 on my pain scale (I was stung by bees and wasps before). I was bitten on my big toe, as I stepped on it in the dark. It's like being pierced by a hot rusted iron nail. My bone and fingernail were hurting. The toe doubled in size. The next day I woke up and it was like nothing happened.
Furthermore: since I moved on the island for almost two years I successfully avoided them. I am very good to predict their location, I'm used to recognize their habitat. They like moist places but not too moist, when it's raining a lot outside (normal on a tropical island) they come inside homes. Because I always liked animals and plants in general, grew up watching animal planet and exploring forests/catching critters and growing plants. The easiest way to find them is to look where they have prey (cockroaches).
I mostly work outside, s-o I'm always expecting to see one when I move logs, rocks, etc.

When I lived in the carribbean, an amazonian giant centipede crawled in bed with me and bit me in the torso. Felt like a red hot poker jammed into my side pressed in for about 15 hours. I could feel the pain spread though my network of nerves as the toxin radiated out for hours and hours. I caught the bug though, and then set him on fire.

I live in Namibia... a friend of mine was once bitten by one of these while we were out partying under the stars.
Described it as the worst pain he has ever felt in his life- he couldn't rest (respite from the pain) that whole evening. He was pacing and screaming and crying and writhing in agony for a long time. And it was smaller than the giant desert centipede.
Forget getting bitten by that thing, this man is brave enough to even touch it with his bare hands.

I was stung by a smaller one and this brings back memories. It is a pain far worse than any bee, hornet, or wasp, and it doesn't give up. I was swearing like a sailor for hours.

I was born in phoenix and never once though of going in the desert to catch a centipede and letting it bite me but this video might make me change my mind

When i was younger i got bit by a Hawaiian centipede (vietnamese, scolopendra) while sleeping! It bit me next to my left nipple and I immediately woke up and threw it against the wall and watched it crawl into my dresser never to be seen again. The pain was immediately unbearable. It felt like someone was holding a lighter flame on my skin for 5 hours until the pain slowly began to die down for the next 2 days. The bite area was swollen and tender. I couldnt wear a shirt for those days because the light skin contact with it was so intense. I also smelled this weird sharp scent consistently during those 2 days and I felt hot in the cold ac. I was so miserable i wanted to give up on life but luckily i pulled through. Its amazing how calm this guy is.
Those are even bigger than the southwest ones. I don’t ever want to find out what it is like. 😨

This guy is not exaggerating. I have been bitten by a centipede in Australia aged 10 and the effect was similar. It was my thigh, and the venom - and impossibly incredible pain - slowly moved up my body over 20 minutes. I was screaming “my heart! What when it reaches?”. My mother was hysterical and called the ambulance. By the time I reached the hospital my body was already fighting off more than half of the poison so I would have survived but my god I never had a more painful experience.

I've always been afraid of certain insects (wasps e.g., but I got stung as a child which seems to have ingrained fear for them into me), especially centipedes. Thank God I live in the Netherlands where a basic yellow jacket is the worst sting that can happen.
You still got the European hornet, like the rest of us in Europe. Their sting is quite worse.
@@gandalf8216 Having been stung by both, I found the yellow jacket worse. That might have been because of the sting location though, the hornet sting was in my ankle while I had multiple stings in the face, and even one in the tongue by yellow jackets.

If these things had a head on each end, or at least some way to sting you with it's tail, this would've probably been next to impossible. lol
Size does not always seem to mean pain. Smaller ones have bitten me and hurt just as bad. Big or small, the bite almost always causes an infection. This is just a filthy bug that lives in the grossest places. There is no variation of this monster that someone would prefer to be bitten by. The bigger ones definitely are way more intimidating than any other bug and most snakes.
