But to circle back if the car was the sole reason the building went up in flames then auto may step in to assist. But say this was a plug in hybrid or ev model and was plugged into the wall then 100% renters insurance. Crappy thing with renters is people usually get the lowest coverage since renters are already spread thin and they you almost neverrrrrr suspect something like this to happen.

The car is covered under comprehensive on the auto policy so long as the auto policy has comprehensive coverage. The property damage could be covered under the auto policy. The building is covered by its policy under fire peril losses. The buildings’s policy will subrogate to the car policy to recover any property damage coverage that’s available on the auto policy. The fire department may send a bill to the building owner to recover some firefighting costs if the building was a commercial policy, example being a habitational building (apartments rented to others).
