- Hey folks, welcome to Terraria's Calamity Mod! I've been told that playing through this enormous add-on with "revengeance" mode enabled is pretty challenging, and I can now say with 100% certainty that it is, in fact, hard.
I spent over 50 hours doing everything there is to do in Terraria's Calamity Mod, which was pretty tough considering I've never even beaten the BASE GAME by myself. Adding the fact that I decided to only use rogue weapons for the whole playthrough made this experience an excruciating one.
I beat 100% of Terraria's Calamity Mod for the first time, and it was the most brutal playthrough in the history of this channel.

This sounds more like dysgraphia lol (i have dysgraphia and dyscalculia, but not dyslexia oddly, and found out bc of that that they are often comorbid. Most of the time if you have either dysgraphia or dyscalculia you have dyslexia, and if you have dyslexia you usually have either dysgraphia or dyscalculia. Because i have dysgraphia [bad at writing disorder basically] and dyscalcula [bad at math disorder basically] but not dyslexia [bad at reading disorder, basically] I can relate to a bunch of things dyslexic people say, because they probably have undiagnosed comorbid dysgraphia or dyscalculia, but not others, because i don't actually have dyslexia.)

This mod is easy if you simply put hundreds of hours into it
It's doable, it took me a long time but I've done it before. The first step is to do something to get the game knowledge. I'd recommended the Apaches classes mod just for making a playthrough easier so you can finish it once so you know how to do it!

Honestly, the way I did it was by playing in normal mode, then in expert mode, then in revengeance (over the course of a year, not like actually back to back). That way you get introduced to most of the mechanics and the progression in normal, you get introduced to the funky AI changes in expert, and finally the even funkier AI changes in revengeance, instead of just diving into revengeance at the start.
Lemme tell ya, there was nothing quite like beating SCal in revengeance for the first time back when it was just her and the boss rush post-Yharon, I still remember how hard my pulse was pounding in my ears.
I’ve sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into Terraria so it’s safe to say it’s one of my favorite games ever. I’m pretty comfortable saying that I’ve gotten really good at the game over the years and I can undoubtedly say that it’s one of the best games ever made when it comes to making you feel badass while still feeling like you earned it.

Also for the fountain. There’s actually waterfall blocks and you can use them as walls. You make them at a crystal ball + sink/water source using glass :)

My normal CZcams habit is find a really long video then watch that video for the next 3 days or so so this guys channel is a life saver and also really high quality keep it up man
If for some ungodly reason you decide to do infernum, remember - potions and specialized accessories are your very best friend and can sometimes no-sell a boss’s worst mechanics, like gravity normalization potions helping with ceaseless void’s gravity distortion.
Played Terraria twice....never went back, but I will gladly watch you go thru the hell I decided not to 😂

@@llmalex4176he’s not saying it’s just easy for him. The mod doesn’t change the difficulty of the vanilla bosses unless you choose to. Some of the new bosses it adds can be hard yes but not too bad.
@@llmalex4176 He's not saying he's good. Vanilla Terraria really is easy, even in expert mode arguably.
Though at the same time it comes down to game knowledge. It's a sliding scale kinda. The more game knowledge you have, the less actual skill you need. The first 2 bosses can be beaten with little effort by just being able to run in one direction.for most of the fight.
It does end up making the game not as accessible to new players though.
Therm straight up, as someone that has done terraria revengence. All of the “cheats” you did was stuff pretty much every player does. Like the infinite potions for bosses and other quality of life stuff to speed up gameplay

The same thing actually happened to me in my last singleplayer run. Granted I was playing on Infernum mode. DoG is a difficulty spike.

Im not familiar with calamity or it’s abbreviations, and didnt look at the responses to this comment till just now, when i was hit with the realization that no, therm did not have to fight a canine 53 times in this video. On slightly (very, actually.) disappointed.
Why are so many comments here telling Therm to do this again but on a harder mode? As if it wasnt already hard as hell. Its kinda demoralizing
I haven’t seen any comments saying anything of that nature. If so, then I agree with you, revengeance is hard if you’ve never completed vanilla terraria (Therm), so I wouldn’t expect a person to do a harder difficulty unless they’ve beaten terraria multiple times on different difficulties.

The honest answer to getting better at moon lord is to play more reactionary and with anticipation. I find it easier to dodge his projectiles a little bit closer to him, which also allows you to have him on screen most of the time. That way you can see when the beam eye opens and you can recharge your flight before it fires, allowing you to fly over it every time (or you can grind for rod of discord but that's no fun). If you find it easier to dodge the projectiles farther away from the boss then you need to anticipate when the top eye is going to open (it happens on a set interval i believe, calamity may change that), so you can recharge your flight before the beam fires. Moon lord is honestly the closest boss in base terraria to be straight reactionary bullet hell when you're not worrying about the beam, so playing other bullet hell games should help with the reactionary stuff. Then it's just a matter of combining your skills with terrarias movement system.

I for one do not find Fargo’s cheaty, getting thirty of a potion is not an easy task especially for the good ones, also instabridges are pretty fairly priced for how good they are
I don't feel it's cheaty either. Especially if its quality of life stuff. As long as Therm is happy, then it's fine

Damn, nicely done. I still give you full credit for using the potion mod, honestly I'm more impressed you got as far as you did without using potions, they're a huge boost. Was kinda funny seeing you figure out how to handle teleports, dodges, potions, etc, on your own. Reading is a core Terraria skill for the first... long while, there's just so many things to learn how to do.

As a Calamity veteran (beat death mode more times than i can count, beat malice on tier when it existed, beat infernum a couple times) this playthrough is very impressive, i had more than a few false starts with the mod myself so getting through first try, especially on a mod specific class is a great achievement which you are right to be proud of

I “recently” started my calamity play through and stopped in devourer of gods but after I watched this it motivated me to finish the game and actually beat it which I have now only got to beat the final boss so thank you!

one thing with the not intended dash happening. if the game has a stutter/lag be it a few ms long or long enough to lag clearly enough to be seen by the player too, the input for direction can get re-sent and as its in such a short timespan game take it as a double press and trigger dash.

Revengance mode is hard, but infernum is where the real fun is at. Every single boss gets stronger with new phases with more attacks. I beat that for the first time a few months ago playing a melee build and it was easily the most satisfying gaming accomplishment i've ever had. That playthrough was also with the thorium mod, which adds a crap ton more bosses as well.
Finally a vid I can use as a guide, beaten base terraria multiple times already but the second I went to try Calamity I felt just like you have described at the beginning, and I still don't know what I am doing.

The amount of times I have rage quit a game, left it for a while before coming back, and then killing the boss on the first time is way more than it should be lmao (Specifically for Hollow Knight, but once I progress more it'll probably be true for Terraria too)

Im currently playing Calamity on Revengence mode for the VERY first time. Its been a ton of fun even though Im struggling a lot with bosses. It feels insanely satisfying to pull off boss fights for the first time and I can actively feel myself improving at the game. I love this mod.

Oh! 2:21:20 you do that by hammering the blocks below the water into slabs. If you want to sell the effect more, there's waterfall walls which are crafted with glass, at a crystal ball that's placed next to water.
I find it super interesting that some bosses, like plague bringer, you struggled with while that one never really bothered me. But one's like the Leviathan you did super well on while I struggle imensly. Really is a different game for everyone
That's what's strange, in my most recent playthrough I did melee and all the bosses that gave me trouble where comedically easy, but the ones I usually excelled at where difficult

I had the dumbest grin on my face when I realized the background for the boss kill screen is the hall of yo
The reason that moon lord's hp bar is glitched is that the eyes are kept in the sockets when you kill them, but also spawn new eyes to attack, what this means is that there is an additional amount of health on moon lord equal to the total hp of the 3 eyes, but the death is tied to the core dying, so the fight ends there.
Calamity is hard as HELL dude, is insane. A lot of the time when I play it, I feel like the bosses are very unpredictable and a lot of the times just really annoying, so it's super cool a newer player to the mod was able to finish it all the way. If you ever want to try out other modded terraria content, I'd highly suggest Fargo Souls Mod. I've played through it a couple times and it's by far my favorite content mod out there. I think the bosses are far more fair than Calamity's, so even though it's supposed to be harder, it doesn't feel like total bullshit yk? This was super cool Therm, keep up the good work

Also yes revengeance does change the nurse heal to be 4 times more expensive while in death mode you outright cannot heal at the nurse
I'm only like a quarter of the way through the video so I dunno if you figure it out later but, the damage that breaks adrenaline if it's charged is cut in half. So it's not entirely worthless but usually not as valuable as just using it.

If you're struggling to use adrenaline and rage maybe it helps to map them both to the mouse wheel button, theres no searching for the button and you dont have to move your hand while trying to dodge bosses
