- With school, tennis lessons, swimming lessons, art classes, homework and piano practice, a young boy leads such a regimented life that he has no more time just to be a kid.
Inspired by Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, this short animated film by Claude Cloutier pleads for children’s right to rest and leisure.
Directed by Claude Cloutier -1994
I like how they show anxiety and make us the viewer feel it. The bells and alarms go off with an annoying vibration. Even the kid has it while sitting up in the morning. Poor kid wanted to play with other kids at the park not taking lessons all day and after school too. This is how to kill a childs spirit! Good video.
right
People suggesting the kid just needs a few hours break between things, or that's just a normal life for a kid aren't getting the point. The point is stress, anxiety, and simply overworked and over observed. That's very much what I feel as an adult with a job. Let kids be kids
we should realize kids maybe kids but kids are people too. They shouldn't be treated as machines not as puppets. They just need proper guidance and yet some freedom for themselves as well. it's an age of Discovery, age of knowing oneself, an age of innocence.
Okami Jubei ]Excellent moral ,my friend! This is why I like this cartoon!!!😉❤
PUT AN END TO HOMEWORK!!!
@Sebastian Cook 01 (STUDENT) Right? My parents could barely afford one his lessons, his issue were his parents. Why weren't the other kids suffering?
@@backdoordestroyer4622 yea

That his picture in the family photo began to fade at the end implies that he died.

Well... it's certainly been left open to interpretation.
Very interesting animation!!!🙂❤👍
this kid doesn't have 2 days break like saturday and sunday :(
The art on here has a comic strip style to it.
That's because the author started out by drawing comic strips for French Canadian satire magazines including Croc and the short-lived Titanic.
@@Milnoc I will say his artwork was looking familiar to me. I probably seen his stuff before but can’t remember where.
Parents may as well be raising robots rather than children.
all i can do after looking at this artstyle is ask "why the long face"
Watching this video, It's a regular kids life,(Keep in mind I am only Sharing my thoughts,)Personally, I think kids should be given an hour brake, And learn by using the outside world, Like using it on things that actually matter, Like, Is the moon getting further or are we? (I asked NASA once) I would say, Let their creativity move into the real world, I mean, Kids have creativity, If they like building, Let them learn at their own pace, Without Being pushed to learn as fast as others, Again, I am only Sharing my thoughts.
I'm a little confused, can anyone help me out, did the boy die in his sleep at the end? Why did the picture change to his eyes closed at the the end too? What was that to symbolize?
he wouldnt die of doing work every day as a kid.
he didnt die, he needed a break , more sleep, and maybe just a day off of what his mother made him do.
The video is called "overdose"....so I think he overdosed on pills and died.
ShpookyBear369 No, He overdosed on the things his mother made him do.
SookyBear369 lol!!!
Y'know how easy it is to wear out an appliance through overuse?
I've beenooking for this for years!!! Thank you!!

Hot Diggity Demon saw this and made Jerry, didn’t he?

Aww that poor privileged child that can have an education and food on the table and a nice house🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😢
He may have *some* of the necessities, but not all of them. A child has to be able to explore their environment at their own leisure, make friends, and just enjoy time being a kid; Those are the things that are necessary for social developments to becoming a functional human, otherwise you are just a cog in the corporate machine with no real personhood left
Firsties think this is a bad thing. I'd kill for this type as a kid. I can not be the only one here who wished for that type of opportunity as a child. They absolutely take their opportunities for granted and view them as oppression.
It's no luck, maybe he has the right amount for this guy with that poor thing in the sink!
That's a Hotline Miami level so hard....
this raminds me off the tiem that i aet bopis biscat no drnki
can anyone explain the ending plz...
priyanka mishra he died or get tired
The patents wanted him to be popular and good at many things at the same time and it became an overdose so he started really getting tired from all those things like it was never ending cicle so he one night couldn’t hang it anymore so he just said „No” and die of overdose
"This short animated film . . . pleads for children's right to rest and leisure." Reading, writing, playing tennis, art, music . . . all of those things have been, or are still, considered to be leisure. I wish I had that much leisure in my life.
Chris Greene Even though this is true, it is important to differentiate between "planned leisure time" in which the child cannot decide what he does as he has fixed lessons there (sport, art, music) (even if he chose to do this kind of activities, he has to go there now on a regular basis, and cannot decide when and if he wants to go) and "free leisure time" in which nothing is on a scedule, and in which he can do whatever he wants to (read, computer, play games, write...). Besides, all the sport and art have some kind of pressure on it, as his mother wants him to be successful and therefore creates expectations.
Not when you’re being forced to do it and it is part of your daily schedule. The difference between work and leisure is that one you do out of necessity and one you do out of will.
Nice.

A well-rounded education is one of the best advantages you can have in an increasingly competitive world, and it is wonderful to have proud parents who have the highest hopes for you.
TeollolI'm olololololl and more like it when people don't have the right way too long and the first place I have no clue who I want you in my room for a new song long way in which a man with my family and friends of friends with a few weeks and months and it will take the bus driver just got to go out with the best way of saying it is the most recent version and the first place I have no
And that's how it should be.
There is nothing wrong disciplining a child to become an adult.... if you let a child do whatever desired he will not grow up to be a mature responsible adult.... This video is misleading parent to let go of their responsibilities as parent.... the only things that was neglected in this video is that in reality parent support, encourage, compliment their child with love.... this video makes parent look heartless....
And should the child be without any free time at all? It is important to be able to just unwind instead of having every waking moment occupied by having to do something.
Darca1n come on... this video is clearly exaggerated... find one child in your neighbourhood that live under those condition shown in this video... one.... this video is anti-parenting...

I think this short film is a bit too naive about parenting involvement and family dynamics in general. Children under 10 are often too young to commit, but there are fields which require you to start early, like tennis, dancing playing musical instruments etc and in the future, you don't want to regret that you didn't take enough lessons. Kids who do it 100% out of their own self-motivation is few and far between. I can only draw from anecdotal evidences that most successful people in art and sports I know were pushed hard at a young age and they have to thank their parents later. Of course, they enjoyed what they did but I'm sure that there must be days when they didn't want to get out of beds and they only wanted to hang out with their friends and that's when their parents stepped in. To be successful, you need to sacrifice and unfortunately there's no other way around. Of course, for one Lang Lang or Kim Yuna, there must be thousands of children who end up with "normal" lives, they may resent their parents for pushing them to playing the piano or skating.
If you ask me there was a lot of miscommunication, parents need to support kids in what THEY want to do and the parents goals are to provide as many opportunities as possible.. Anyone with the right tools will become successful. I don't know anyone who wants to be failure.
+seemeasis this is EVERY parent nowadays, If your child isn't the best at everything they do, parents feel that they have failed
