Two things, he's reasonable on one specific issue and vaguely populist generally. I am glad to hear him be decent on that issue but I'd hold broader judgement until we hear more detail.
Second, I'm all in favor of Republicans being better. I'm in favor of any politician being better than they otherwise could be. But I don't have high hopes that someone is going to save the Republican party from itself or even carve out a tiny niche of reasonability there. We have a steep uphill climb in attempting to make the Democratic party even half decent so putting decent people in the Republican party is just not being realistic about what that party is. To reference a popular trope from a new angle, the Leopards Eating People's Faces party is not going to allow a Leopard hunter to hold a position within the party.

Hi. Economist here. Rural areas actually do need housing improvements. Especially when you get into rural areas down south… there are people living without basic plumbing there, or they have issues in their homes they can’t afford to fix so they worsen and draw negative effects to their health which strains their healthcare systems. Small businesses will always survive in rural areas, (that is, until people discover Amazon). As for the bigotry issue, it’s unsolvable. The only thing that can be done is to present yourself in a likable manner as to improve the optics of your beliefs.

Still remember when he first called into the show. Mentioned running as a republican on agricultural issues. Was skeptical at first but he then he proved how within the call how much he knew what he was talking about and was basically in the party because you can't succeed as a democrat on the ballot in Nebraska. I remember Michael saying it's a really smart idea: Run on the left as a republican in states where the Dems have no chance. Really hope he can win it.
