Backlund's promo sucked. He was a vanilla, bland, boring babyface. Dave Meltzer said that Vince McMahon was vehemently opposed to his father taking the WWF title off of Superstar Billy Graham, because business was through the roof during his eight month title reign. Ticket sales dropped during Backlund's first year as champion. McMahon said in an interview that if he had gained control of the WWF from his father a few years earlier, he would have turned Superstar babyface and pushed him like he did Hogan. RIP Superstar.

Backlund didn't need to scream and yell, that's what the heels were supposed to do! And yeah, I know what Vinnie Mac did, he deliberately turned his father's promotion into a living cartoon and made a ton of money doing it!

( Money still mattered in those days!) Yes, Graham could sell and his promos were gold but he couldn't wrestle! Hogan could do more than walk around and punch like Graham, he was fast and had more skills he would sneek into his arsenal! No, Hogan was never a Backlund or Kurt Angle but he was better in the ring than Graham ever was! Even with Graham's Karate gimmick, his offense still stunk! I doubt a "Babyface" Graham would have gotten over long term and his 80s matches prove it! And yeah, I'm PROUDLY "mad Old School"!
Superstar and Grand Wizard was magic on the Stick as well- that goes without saying-a great contrast to Bob Backlund’s straight good guy Howdy Doody presentation- Man Wrestling was good back then!
