Agreed. He deserved the All Defense nomination. But Luka is just way different then everyone that was named here. He isnt a shifty guard (Booker/Murray), or a lenghy movement shooter (KD/Porter). He is a Tank that can accelerate and decelerate through contact like basically noone else. Someone who isnt bothered by size and can create space through contact with ease.
Means you need someone who can match his physicality, while having great foot speed. Hence why Dort was a worse matchup then McDaniels for Luka. Dort is built like a OLB. I mean, even freaking Kawhi and PG in their prime couldnt stop a healthy Luka... and both are way more physical then McDaniels can be.
@Smido83 agreed. McDaniels key is he's more agile but that can easily be negated cause Luka keeps guard of that ball HARD. He can use length. But that could cause a foul or again Luka has that ball in a cage. Their best bet would be Naz Reid. But as soon as they do that, Luka will speed up or get a screen. And boom it's still a point😂

I see him as a cross between Scottie and Kawhi, but a little taller (haven't looked up the wingspan but assuming it's at least the same). And considering both those two are top 5 all time perimeter defenders, that's obviously a pretty bright spot to be in. He seems a bit quicker, but a bit less stocky considering his narrower frame, but a few more years of NBA conditioning will probably do him real good in the department. Upside is huge.

He was the primary defender because of scheme, but I don’t think he did a better job than McDaniels.
The idea was to make KD play 1 on 1 against KAT and take everyone else out of the game. KD got his numbers, but the team’s offense was not good.

The crazy part to me is that the Wolves really could have had him with Vanderbilt filling in the bench minutes, to say nothing of Kessler guarding the rim for the second unit.
I don’t see that as being more valuable than Jaden on the frontline and Gobert on the backline though. The defense this season has been historic.
@@HoopVenue perhaps, though my thought process is that the Wolves were in such a lucrative position that they were primed to become a defensive juggernaut one way or the other, in the event that they opted to take their time instead of going all-in with Ant still on his rookie deal.

Taking MPJ out of the series was huge for the Wolves, and Denver never found a way to get him going which led to MPJ taking questionable shots instead of playing the team game. He barely touched the ball and you could tell whenever he did he just wanted to shoot it.
Jaden macdaniels and Jared varnderbilt are very similar on defense in my opinion
Thats why they were ok with giving up Vando in the Gobert trade. Jaden’s offense is miles better
If Jaden can develop a more consistent and reliable 3 point shot (closer to 40% average) that would mean a championship ring for the Twolves. That would be the last piece in the puzzle.
The combo of Golbert, Ant, KAT, Connelly, Reid and Jaden would be too much to handle.

Yikes, not a good timing after McDaniels defense gets exposed by the Mavs. Primarily it’s not his problem but a coaching one as he wasn’t taught the basics of team defense. His tenacity and athleticism may work against good players like Murray or Booker but against elite ball handlers he gets easily manipulated and the defense collapses. Too often does he make gambles or force the ball handler to the weak side with no help.
OK now we are in lunacy territory, none of the big name scorers got slowed down by McDaniels, Booker KD Murray all performed well, the wolves won two series not McDaniels, he is absolutely a good defender a top one even, but he did not change how the series went, Finch run a zone-like defense, it's a team defense with some players more important. Stop read things that are not there, same reason apply when Luka score 30+ every game, that does not mean McDaniels is a bad defender either, no one can stop Luka, just as he didn't stop Booker KD or Murray.

Jaden McDaniels was built in a lab to play defense. He's measured at 6'9 but it's almost certain he's grown since entering the league. Basically he's a 7 footer with guard's agility. Highest defensive upside of any perimeter defender in the NBA. Very underrated passer too. Once his 3pt shooting is more stable and he's able to attack off the dribble, we will see him flourish as a slasher and playmaker. Scottie Pippen-light potential paired with MJ-light in Ant-man. This Wolves team is scary!
