Don't get me started on how off-meta he plays -_- we just gotta accept he's not gonna play meta. You know...like Garlic or the Holy Bible, or the Pentagram, or all three of those evolved for guaranteed victories...
Literally just got done playing the latest update, so this is amusing. Tom's always an update or two behind, but it's always fun to watch him goof around.
if anyone was interested in the song of mana trick tom was talking about, you can pick up the curse and then banish it. The song still can evolve but the curse stays stuck on lvl 1
The green guy with the shield and axe is called "Armored Axe General"
There’s a character to unlock beating the green reaper. I won’t say how because it’s a little more involved and it needs a wiki.
The upgraded guns become even more insane with the tarrot card system, since you get even more lazers from the extra respawns.
Yahh.. i like the tarrot cards... the regen does damage one is great for starting levels.
The guns pre-evolution with the extra bounces card is bonkers.

Getting the 8% cooldown reduction actually gives you more than 10% dps boost, you can get to -45% cd, which basically doubles the dps.
Each particular upgrade is better than the last bc is reduces the total by 8%, which each step becomes relatively more
The first only increases your DPS by 8.7%. It reduces your cooldowns by 8%, which means that you have a 0.92 multiplier on your cooldowns. To turn that into DPS, we divide by 0.92 and get 1.0869, which means about 8.7% increase.

You can kill Green Death using the minecarts - when you attack the carts they spin out of control and run stuff over. They do enough damage to kill the Green Death.
Now that you have Gallo Tower you can pick up the Randomazzo - its a card deck that gives you a bunch of bonus buffs for your characters.
Also try to get Leda from Gallo Tower. Very interesting secret character. All you have to do is walk south (very, very far south, like 20 minutes of walking south) until the music turns creepy and the lights go out, then she should spawn if you look around a bit. Beat her to unlock the character!

when getting the cool down book, (which is arguably one of/the best upgrade, turns the guns back into their old superpowerful form.

There are already a ton of -magic- vampire survivors like games.
The pentagram does get very good..but it's a hell of a chore to level up.
New update came out yesterday and I'm already nostalgic for the old weapon symbols; makes it extra nice to see Tom play

I LOVE the new survivor with the axe guitar.

the pentragram did not destroy everything because its effected by luck, so you had an extremely small chance to not destroy stuff because of your basic upgrades.

Tom, I know it's futile to discuss strategy with you, but the best process is to take all your weapons first, and then only take items that evolve the weapons. That way you gain xp more quickly at the start because you're firing more damage out, and don't fill all your item slots with mis-matching items and get stuck with a weapon that you can't evolve.
AOE weapons tend to be higher damage; Penta is top dmg, Santa is very high too. The twin guns are great. I like garlic because even though it's low damage even after evolution, it has knock-back. Garlic+Bible knocks enemies out to the same radius as the spinning Bible to maximize that damage.

Tom not picking the green gem at the beginning, is mildly infuriating.
Tom stepping on pressure pads, is mildly infuriating.
It's nice to feel different feelings from time to time

I mean even before not picking up the green gem, he took the knife, so the expectations were already pretty low.
Also saying "I'm not sure what my base curse level is", opening up the menu and then seemingly not noting or commenting on the stats on the left side that show he has no base curse level.
...It sure has been a while since he last played I guess.

I really wish they'd buff the knives and wand evolutions, and the whip too. they don't hold up compared to the other weapons or even the unevolvable weapons

ngl I was really annoyed when I picked up the game to discover Toms first video is a good 10ish hours into the unlock grind. You're so gated behind what things you can even find til you unlock them that it feels like you can't start actually having a proper round/build til you've invested the 10ish hours into it. I realised when I went back to check the first vid and saw the ridiculous number of upgrades he had bought when he leveled up the first time now that I understood what I was looking at. The reason Tom relies on the death spiral so much in early vids is that it's one of the earliest things to unlock the combo on and has by far the most reliability compared to literally anything else in the early grind. Not really a negative if you're a big grind player I guess, but just a heads up from a filthy casual.

It's not that bad if you figure out what you are doing. It took me about 30 hours to clear the content in the game. Not all that grindy imo cause I was always trying to accomplish some unlock or another on most runs.
