  • The BBC gets exclusive access to the Indian Coast Guard's operations, as they protect global maritime trade in the Indian Ocean region. The BBC's Jugal Purohit went on board the ship 'Sajag' to explain how the coastguard's patrolling operations work and how they monitor the ocean.

Fun story.. So I stay in Mumbai and have many friends in Worli Koliwada. For those who don't know kolis are a fisherman community in Maharashtra
So one night after office we went to Koliwada. It was a wedding of our friend and the party was on. I and some of my office friends took a small fishing boat which my friend owned and we went to seas ( around bandra Worli sealink ) this was a one of a kind experience as corporate city dwellers we never get to have these experiences. A voyage of a lifetime 😂. So we were riding the waves and suddenly a search light fell upon us and after sometime the cost guards appeared.... All guns pointing. Massive vessel, we were scared s**tless but the sight of them coming close to us was magnificent... After some enquiry and after we gave them out details and showed them out boat's licence and also after some explanation they escorted us to the shore and let us go.......
Was an experience which I will never forget....

India takes measure to secure her own interest. Throughout our history, we have had the difficult experience of cynical foreign policies of every bloc. Nobody cared when we suffered and got slaughtered. We don't have an obligation beyond a certain level to anybody irrespective of whichever side they might be from.
We are protecting our convoys becuase our civilians can easily fall back to poverty if our trade routes are not safe. We cannot wait for the whims of the bad faith actors.

The Houthis represent countries like Somalia that should also be benefiting.
The British monarch created this route and decided it was international waters but they’ll understand soon that the billions they reck in stand to be shared!!
You are also forgetting this is one of the most militarized region given Somali pirates, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Yemen!!
This countries alone make a formidable force and they should as it’s their right benefit through levies and transit taxes from the maritime frigates!!
