Diana Ross ~ The Boss 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

- Even though her most recent #1 "Love Hangover" was disco, Motown and Diana were not really into it feeling it was quickly passing fad. Her next singles were ballads a la Streisand so she was paired up with Ashford and Simpson who had developed a deep booming disco sound that attracted her.
With a passel of songs to choose from, she felt that "The Boss" would be the best and let A&S provide every song on the album in 1979. While it returned her to the charts, her scatting was subject to some ridicule from the R&B crowd.
Around this time, Motown had put together a Supremes Megamix that was taking over the clubs with a disco beat under it, so the long drum intro on "The Boss" was used to mix in near the end to show Diana was still with us.
There was also an edited No One Gets The Prize that cut right into the Boss but the themes were not compatible and made for an uncomfortable pairing. The extended version of the Boss was the better choice for discos. - Hudba
One of my most favorite songs to play at the Disco, those were the days.
Ever watch her “Chain Reaction” video? Bee Agee’s were her back up singers, but in the video they were black:! 6”(?)
I LOVE LOVE Diana Ross. I remember seeing her at the old CNE Exhibition stadium. PABLO CRUISE opened for her. She was AMAZING LOL sorry for the opening band typo
Lets try to create a time machine and go back and enjoy that era as adults!!!!! My pops had this in his music collection I was eight at the time.
O
An absolutely beautiful rendition of this magnificent song!
What a song 💃💃💃🎶🎶🎶
That’s a real masterpiece

We have never had a Boss so celebrated! Thanks to Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson but most of all, to the most sensual voice we’ve never heard: Diana Ross’ unbelievable one. And last but not least, thanks to you, DJDC ❤

Part of the reason I’ve always listened to the extended version is b/c it includes more scatting lol of course, the instrumentation during those breaks and throughout is also amazing. I like how you’ve isolated portions in your mixes; the way you mellowed out the scatting and pared down the background was unexpected but wonderful. I suppose I agree somewhat w/ the critics regarding this as an example of her ability to sing scat; I think my favorite example is on one of the mixes of “Give Up” from the Rodgers/Edwards produced album “diana”. I’m sure if you mixed the 2 edits of “Tenderness” together, it would really be something special. I adore the kinda sparse intro of the official Motown release, but the fact that they cut the strings off the end is absolutely criminal. I guess they were worried about the disco backlash- but the contrast from a really crisp intro and a super lush ending is a thing of beauty
This guy's channel is so great. I not know much about him but producer I reckon.
His remixes are excellent. Been a subscriber for awhile now. He's the best. 👍
Yes!!!!!!!!! This jam is in my DAILY rotation, and I've been HOPING you would put your seasoning on it. Another masterpiece!
Well as that whole album is full of Simpson contributions, I gotta say its wonderful!
Over 40 years on, and I still cannot get enough of this glorious disco romp! If you haven't been on the dancefloor when the break starts with Miss Ross wailing over the percussion, you haven't lived!
ROSS on a TGIF !!!
Diana performed that song & was a guest host on NBC "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in August of 1979.
Excelente versión muchas gracias
My Favorite Song Friend
It's Amazing Quality Thank You🤝🌹
Hoy en día ya es muy difícil que algo sorprenda pero escuchando estás versiones de verdad me asombran, me sorprenden gratamente. Felicidades por darnos estos placeres, hoy en día 👍
This remix needs to be one @spotify
Just when you think you've heard it all - you give us this classic gem reworked so beautifully one wonders why Miss Ross didn't use this version. Thank you so much for this!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Love this album, the boss.
❤🎉Thanks for this one! Has it all what a disco classic needs!
Awesome tune
Exitaso de todos los tiempos!!simplemente genial, un honor recordar a una excelente cantante disco age!!!!
Love this song
29 seconds in and I love it!
💃🏽💃🕺💃🕺💃🏽💃🕺
This is fantastic to hear thank you! !!
a just-barely-top-20 hit for Diana Ross. After Love Hangover (which I loved, even if she didn't!) I didn't care for her output after until this Ashford/Simpson sound which I was sure would put her back on top. It didn't. 1980 was a good year for her, but then she slid into recording movie theme songs and tumbled off the charts after that. A real pity, such an enormous talent. Shows, in my opinion, the enormous importance of song selection. This woman had every songwriter in the country vying for her attention, but somebody in her camp made some bad choices.
Still think Boss sounds great - this version the best I've ever heard!
My fave Diana Ross
Cat does it again! OMG I LOVE IT.
❤sehr schöne Special Extended Version eines Greatest Hits von Diana Ross,Discomusic aus meiner Jugend.Soooo cool❤❤❤❤❤
Classic Ms. Ross
That's the way to preserve the funky bongo break without screaming over it😮
Horns, drums and strings, man.
People these days don't understand the great significance of instruments and live bands. This electronic Era is crap!
Can you please please PLEASE do “Upside Down” song !!! I would love you forever !

Better than original! Always liked how tight the orchestra is on this.

This is soooooo good!
ela é demais as musicas são uma obra prima adoro , version inacreditavel
weird, I'm sitting here in my Patron (tequila) shirt and this pops up into my feed.
I'm getting used to mentioning something one day and have it appear on my feed later that day or the next day. Even if I mention it in the next room talking to my partner, we don't have Siri or Alexa, just this laptop.
I absolutely love this!
This is so good....love it 💕👍
Un tema exquisito en las grandes discos , mentes retro están conmigo , recordando esas bellas décadas 70s y 80s
Nice
The only Entertainer I have and will sacrifice My last dime to see..

Have you seen the video for “Chain Reaction? The video was written by tithe Bee Grees, who also sang the back up singing. Yet, in the video, the background singers were portrayed as black men.
She is!

That phase when she knew she had to collaborate, but not with Giovanni Giorgio, and the logical answer was Nile and Bernard

It's okay but I like the version from The Braxons better
Oh. you must be high on poppers.
Brilliant remix the original reworked perfectly orchestrated just right. Although I do like What you gave me as a disco song of hers and a bit obscure.
hey djdiscocat do the little river band man on your mind for me 😎😎👍👍
