  • Buildings have been heavily focused on kit or gadgets, in order to achieve a green status. Building performance is all about how well a building is put together, to become an efficient green building. Green Wash is a term used a lot in ESD circles. Without considering airtightness in commercial and residential buildings, it is very difficult to optimise the mechanical systems that maintains comfort.
Jeff Robinson(Technical Director and Global Sustainability Leader)), Joseph Cheung (Technical Director) and John Konstantakopoulos sit around talking about airtightness testing in residential and commercial buildings.

That footage at 28.24 was shocking. Fantastic information as always.

Great conversation. There are a wide range of topics here warranting more in-depth explanations ; education of consumers and industry, better training, humidity issues, the failures of self regulations, etc, etc. Well done guys👍😀

Air sealing and blower door testing is under appreciated. Air sealed, super insulated, triple pane windows, high efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, high efficiency appliances, LED lighting systems, set back thermostats, 2/6 or 2/8 wall construction with thermal breaks, solar panels with battery storage and an EV charger in the garage. Saving energy saves money on utilities and makes the building more comfortable.

Bravo lads. Only been a month or so since I stumbled across your work and I think I’ve just hit peak evangelism. As was said, there is no downside to this. Think the disappearing $10 bill ad could be a winner too, that and stringent legislation with punitive codes to pull the builders and designers into line.

Larger overhangs make a difference in shading windows and the side of buildings. It helps protect from rain and water damage as well as provides shade. All outside areas should have a shade pergola. Planting trees for shade is also important for cooling the area.

There needs to be stricter building codes that require energy efficiency.
There is a Climate Crisis. We all need to do a better job of reducing fossil fuels use.
Seems like there should be a trade show or some other public event that helps to educate the public, builders and architects. Universities need to incorporate Net Zero and Passive House design techniques in the engineering and architecture programs.
