    Einstein didn't start speaking sentences till he was 5 years old. Not speaking in longer sentences till 3 or older has absolutely no bearing on how intelligent your child is.

    My 20-year-old little brother Seth is a late talker. When I was a little girl 👧, I constantly abused Seth because he couldn't say his first word. I even bit his little ear. He cried 😢 and Daddy sang You Are My Sunshine 🌞 to him 💛. Now I wanna open up a charity organization that spreads love to late talkers. And the theme song is You Are My Sunshine 🌞.

    My child is 26 months old. The only two word phrase she uses regularly is "No Way". When I ask her to repeat words she will often just tell me no way. She shows absolutely no signs of any delay other than speaking. She communicates her needs and wants and socializes just fine. What can I do to help encourage her to speak? It's almost as if she just doesn't want to because she has said words before but doesn't use them.

      Hi Thanks for reaching out. Most 24 month olds are copying and creating 2 and 3 phrase with ease. I would encourage you to seek an evaluation for her. If you are in the the US, contact your state agency for a free developmental evaluation. If you have insurance they will bill the insurance. In the meantime , keep watching my videos for more tips and tricks and stay tuned for my one-on-one parent coaching program released in Spring of 2017.

    My 18 month old can talk but won't she so shy and would rather "grunt" for most things. Should I be concerned when she will say words when she really wants to. I try so hard with her opening up and talking with play dates, reading, narrating everything, and interactive play. I find the most successful if I make the word sound fun and apart of play then she will copy me and think it's funny.

    Thank you so much for this, my little lady 22 mths uses less than 5 words “clearly” though she clearly understands everything we communicate with her and has been since 12mths of age so I find it odd that she is do delayed in speech. She just Doesn’t use much words but rather points when she is trying to direct us of something and used muttered sounds. She imitates videos and does her own version of the words so I am trying to find ways to help her communicate with words
    Clearly, does using the signs help open up the verbal ability though? How so?

    My lil guy just turned 2! He is a very sociable and energetic lil guy. His speech is more of babble but is limited to about 4 words. He does distinguish sounds and loves animal sounds and does mimic them his favorites Elephants trumpet, snake hiss, dog bark and cats meow. Does follow a few commands like get a bowl, give me a water , or pick up toys. Our household is also bilingual(wife is Vietnamese and myself is Mexican but I just speak English) . Hearing is perfect. He does get our attention when he wants something. Am I just overreacting??? Friends sons are same age and are also bilingual but are spanish N English. Like I said am I just overreacting?

    He know what mean when I'm talking to him he will be three in February, He knows and says his Abc's and he say the Now I know my Abcs next time sing with me part...He k ow and says his Numbers from 1-20 and he knows and say his shapes but when it comes to him telling me what he want he just bring me to it....my question is my toddler considered still a late talker?

      @WalkieTalkieSpeechTherapy  Před 7 lety +3

      2014moon Hi! Sounds like he is talking but not communicating his needs and wants and using language to socialize. I have a video on Typical Toddler Vocabulary and by 3 years old toddlers should have about 1,000 words and be using three word phrases like “Come Play Mommy” and “Help me please“ and “I want cookies.” Look into a developmental evaluation through your doctor and through the public school system. Hope this helps. Thanks!

      2014moon Sounds similar to my three year old - he knows lots of words but hasn't been bringing them together into sentences, to communicate. He was just diagnosed with Expressive language Delay. If you want to have your son assessed, I would advise doing it sooner rather than later (I listened to the people - including pediatrician - would said to wait and see, which I regret.) There's no downside to knowing what you're dealing with. Also, if you're in the US, the Early Intervention program is free and it seems like it's easier to access before three years (I didn't know about it in time to use it). After three, it goes the the Dept of Education and it's a slow process (it is still free though). Just passing this on since I had no idea about any of it!

      @@mazdarxrx-oj5qq He’s in the first grade now but the school started working with him he uses sentences now to let me know what he want and what he don’t want, he wasn’t talking to his teachers at all while in pre K and kindergarten but this year he really come out his shell. Early intervention is key by the time I took control of the situation he was already three years old, in my town they need two years of pre K which I highly recommend before kindergarten.
      Yes he use sentences now to tell me what he want, I hope this helped.

    Hey, my 2 year old son is very active and aware and very smart and understanding, he repeats almost everything I say but doesn't like to recite it back to me when I askis he shy or having a delay? I'm stressed out, certain people judges me cause of him not holding a conversation with everyone but he speaks to me and his grandmother when he wants to but still babbles is baby talk just easier for him ?? Will he outgrow it I'm hoping by the time he is 3 he will be able to speak better I don't want to stress him out so soon cause he's only 2 !

    My fraternal twins are 27 months old and were talking as early as 4 months old. Then they both seemingly made a pact to stop talking. My son mutters his ABC's and 123s but my girl refuses to say anything except relating noises to certain animals and has severe temper tantrums. I know she can talk because I ve clearly heard her repeat after me on a few occasions and she hands me her bottle and makes gestures when she's thirsty.. Its frustrating because I think they are just being really stubborn. Any advice will help and they passed hearing tests with flying colors.
