They were stunned when the humans unexpectedly turned and bolted away at inconceivable speeds. The human starship Vangaurd shot ahead, leaving the alien pursuers in their cosmic dust. Captain Ryan Mercer's heart pounded as he glanced at the ship's sensors. He swallowed hard. The experimental FTL drive worked, but it had flung the Vangaurd deep into uncharted space teeming with unknown threats. Meanwhile, a vast alien armada ominously shadowed them light-years behind.
