Forest Pool in northeast Brazil

  • I explore a small pool in the dry, thorny forests of the Brazilian state of Paraíba with my good friend, botanist and aquatic plant specialist Juliana Leroy.
    I encounter a variety of aquatic plants from families including Chara, Eleocharis and Nymphaea, as well as fishes such as Pike Cichlids, Featherfin tetras and the popular aquarium fish, the Pearl Cichlid, Geophagus brasiliensis.
    I hope you guys enjoy the video; I have tried to incorporate feedback from viewers, so the subtitles are slower and the music is quieter.
    Check out Juliana's instagram @caminhosdesconhecidos or her youtube ‪@julianasleroy‬ for more aquatic plant content!

    In a world where superlatives have become banal it is difficult to describe this video without sounding trite, however, it is genuinely awesome, stunning, exquisite, paradisiac!
    Thank you so much for making these films and sharing them with us. I will certainly never get the opportunity to experience this firsthand so I am so grateful to you for allowing us to join you on your explorations.

    Про океан так много снято, а про реки и озёра увы, а ведь какое гармоничное сообщество Флоры и Фауны, буйство зелени, которого нет в океане, бесбодобнпя красота рыбьего царства, кстати, неонки самые красивые, а нотбранхи, а расборы, они не уступят в красоте рифовым щеголям, и дай вам Бог нести эту красоту в Мир🌾! That is so pleasant. Although I am Brazilian and have lived and visited many places like this, for exemple in the “cerrado” region, I have never snorkeled. When I was younger, my family and I used to catch hundreds of “Lambaris” to eat. That used to be one of our favorite weekend activities.

    At the beginning of the video, I liked the context of your journey to get to that location added. As you walked around, sharing all of the great stuff there (and showing what the area looked like), I was wishing I could be there. I noticed that I gasped at the point you went under the water in the spot with the sun cutting through to the carpet of fallen leaves. That is where the magic happens! 🥰 Absolutely incredible! You are fortunate to have the ability to go to these locations, as you mentioned. I am truly grateful that you take the time to include us as you traverse these paradises!!! The inner ear hair plucking....you can keep that.😖🤪😂

      Andi, as ever, thanks for all your encouragement and support, it truly means a lot! I am lucky and I have to remind myself that that is why I must share these places and animals, not for my own ego but because others might not have the chance to see them...it's really grounding to remember that and also makes me feel so honoured. 🙏 I will try to bring you some more interesting videos soon! I'm working through my backlog of files from trips last year...

    • @biotopia5319
      @biotopia5319  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi thank you! I think @mustang314 is right, that the space means there is room to roam (they like to move their fry a lot around their territory for safety) and the presence of predators keeps them shifty. Also, they are patrolling their territory against incursions from other Pike cichlids :)

    Remarkable that this exixst in, effectivly, a swimming pool. Just on comment: the stilted subtitles are slightly annoying, complete sentences would lessen the distraction that you suffer trying to follow three-word consecutive frames. Cheers.

    Combtails are not cichlids. they are anabandoids or labyrinth fishes, related to Gouramis, Paradisefish and bettas.
