Been carrying a Bradford Guardian 3 in the horizontal leather sheath for a tad over a month now & it will stay on my belt for a long time to come. The sheath is very concealable since I don't tuck any shirt in. It is just so much stronger. I still carry a pocket clip folder too, & my Baby Buck 55 pocket knife never leaves my pocket. One is none, two is one & three is smart.
Love this! Glad you are enjoying the bradford
Yup. Small fixed blade, utility knife, and a backup blade on Mt multi tool
When you started talking about how well your 1095 in those custom is treated and how well it work I knew you were legit. Subscribed!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hey, just came across your channel and this is a great video. You seem to know your stuff and thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the vids!
Thank you for making the time to put this together, and to compare so many different knives & steels, I appreciate it. I was just wondering, have to used or owned any of Spartan Blades fixed blade creations, and if so, what are your thoughts?
I have not owned a spartan yet. But sure do look great.
Good video bud. I have the n690 version Bradford 3 and I love it. Best 100 bucks I've spent
Awesome. Love the shape and design of the bradford!
Great knife, love Guardians! I picked up a 3.5. The 3 is next
Love the Bradford's. Have the v3 version on me daily.
The 3.5 in 3v has been my daily driver for a few years now and it's perfection in super steel
Yep such a great knife design and steel
Looks like a great selection of knives but it's really hard to tell when they're all so far away from the camera.
Sorry about that. Will do more close ups next time
Really interested in 3V for my next fixed blade. The Bradford 3" looks really nice. The hinderer ranch is also in 3V if you want a bigger knife.
Really liking the 3v! Very happy with the bradford design as well. Thanks for the info on the hinderer, they are fantastic knives!
I have a TOOR darter in 3V , and it is my EDC , and it is amazing. I use only fixed blades because I broke a Hogue, Microtech, and a Gerber 06 . They were very expensive. I only have 2 knives, and I use them both. I have a real deal bad to the bone WINKLER belt knife in black micarta. I EDC both . Good luck, and happy trails!
Great video as always
Thank you
Great video - Your passion for blades shows up in this video. I am looking at the Bradford 3 for horizontal carry in the factory leather sheath. Have you carried yours that way? - (I know you said you were not a fan of it)
I have not used the factory sheath myself. But I will say its a very good quality sheath and designed to do exactly what you are planning.
waiting on my bradford in crewear cant wait til it comes
You are gonna love it
I just came across your video on the Bradford Guardian 3, and I appreciate your in depth knowledge. I'm just waiting on the one just picked up in M390. I'd be happy to take the leather sheath off your hands if still available.
Don't have any sheaths left. But you are gonna love the bradford!
Great review thank you, informative and knowledgeable. Had you considered the 3D Micarta handle? It seems a more comfortable setup. Best wishes!
I do like the 3d handle alot. But since I edc these knives in my front pocket the flat scales work better for me.
@@SamkoTradBow Thank you for your response, much appreciated! Not all of us are handy as yourself to make a kydex sheath; however, the Armatus looks very good. Things do get expensive with the exchange for us in Canada. One thing I don't know is M690, generally preferring Spring Steels a la 1095 and others. Really appreciate your input, thank you!
You actually can pick and choose. There are like 5 steel options, dozens of handle options and 3 or 5 finish options. It's actually one of the most customizable knives on the market right now. You can pretty much get it in any configuration you want
But steel options are limited runs other than n690 or m390
Loved the video. Just wondering if you would consider making one of your dangler sheafs for Guardian 3. Victor
I did. Its a video called pinning kydex. Made it about 3 months ago is you check on my channel you will find it. Goes theu the whole process of making it and how I came up with the pinning process.
Thank you for your prompt response!
My first Bradford was the M390. Tonight I ordered my second one in REX45. I.
Awesome..let me know what you think of that new steel
@@SamkoTradBow REX 45?

I'm currently carrying a Izula II and if I ever want to go up in blade size I will probably go with the Bradford Guardian 3. I've been eyeballing them hard and found your video searching for more info on them. Thanks for the education on the steel differences as I'm not that knowledgeable beyond 1095. I'm currently looking for something smaller that can be scout carried in the front and leaning toward the LT Wright Patriot. Do you have any experience or thoughts on the Patriot? Or any other comparable sized US made knives? This will be a hard use EDC but not my primary outdoor/hunting knife. I'm a fan of ESEE but the two inch blade on the Candiru is just too small for EDC for me. Two and half is my minimum. Thanks.
Lots of great knives out there! But I think the small handle and bigger blad of the bradford makes it one of the smallest carrying knives in its blade size. It's basically the size of the izula. Should definitely be on your list to check out for scout carry!
I just retired my Izula in S35vn for a Bradford g3 in m390. Night and day difference. I replaced my ESEE 4 in S35vn for a Bradford G4 in MagnaCut. The Bradfords have far better heat treats. I realized ESEE heat treats seams to really suck. I bought to KA-Bar Boss and Big Boss in S35vn and they are light years ahead of Esee. I’m quite shocked at how poor both of my ESEE knifes heat treat is. Both dull in the blink of an eye but both of my ka-bar s35vn knives hold there edge FOREVER.
Thank you very much for the previous comments, I will ask for one which one do you advise me the 3v or the magnacut?
3v is my favroite if they are making them in 3v still. Sometimes they do special runs of them. Heard great tthings about magnacut. Even the m690 is a very good steel.
@@SamkoTradBow Thank you very much for that wise advice.
Just grabbed a Guardian 3 3V for my husband for Christmas. Any suggestions on a great horizontal carry sheath I can purchase? Thanks, Jason
The sheath that comes with it is a good horizontal. The bradford kydex ones they sell on thoer site are also great from what I hear. I don't know much or follow much about sheaths as I make all my own. But I do remember seeing the bradford kydex and thinking that's a great design!
What do you think about buying from Sierra trading post? Do you have a recommended site to buy from just for general clothing/hunting items?
platform. Bought anything from Sierra trading post. So do t k ow if they are good or bad. I imagine good as they jave been around forever. I buy 90% of my stuff from walmart, Amazon, cabelas, or right from manufacturer.
Have you tried CPM-3V? A friend of mine was a huge 1095 fan for his hunting and bush crafting knives but he said a properly done 3V matches or exceeds the 1095 in every metric besides being a bit more difficult to sharpen in the field but with a good diamond field sharpener he said he has only had to touch them up on long trips where he has really beat the hell out of it.
Curious to hear your thoughts from that perspective, everyone has different uses and opinions on things so steel choice is (as you kinda touched on) very much a personal preference.
The dark one in the video is 3v. I love it! It's right there with 1095 at the top of my list. It is similar to 1095 but better in every category from what the charts say and from what I see in the field.
@@SamkoTradBow it's a very good steal for hard use. Heard good things about Cru-Wear as well but haven't talked to anybody I know well who has used it yet.
1095 is awesome for a hard use knife though and you can get a whole hell of a lot of blade for a damn good price and it holds an edge well enough and it isn't a nightmare to try to sharpen in the field.
@@jolness1 could not of said it any better!
Thank you this was very informative. I’m on my way to purchasing a nice EDC fix blade & was looking at a few & the Guardian 3 in N690 is one of them. I like the leathe horizontal sheath it comes with & I just like the horizontal style period & was wondering if you know of a good company that makes custom sheaths for any knife style Thanks!
You will love the guardian. Bradford also does sell a kydex sheath for it on thier website that's pretty awesome and the the internet is full of great kydex and leather sheath makers that do amazing work.
@@SamkoTradBow thank you💯😎👍🏻
Have you looked at the Bradford g necker. It is made in elmax.
Its on my to get list. Have not used one yet, but I want to.
How’s the edge retention of the 3V in comparison to m390. It’s not often but I have chipped my Griptillian in 20CV more than once. Comparable steel to m390
I love the 3v! edgeretention is great and resharpen time is much less and can be done in the field. my m390s have to be resharpened at home personally so it is always dull.
What about aebl? I revisited this video because I’m planning to get a guardian 3 or 3.5. Not sure if they were in aebl when you reviewed it.
Heard it's a great steel. Never messed with it but was researching it when I was gonna buy a bradford necker is Abel steel.
Jason, have you looked at the Esee JG3 much? Very similar shape and same length blade in 1095. I have no doubt the Bradford is built better being more custom rather than production. Just seeing if you’ve paid much attention to the Esee?
Love esee knives. Have about 9 of them and love everyone. Have not used the jg yet as I have so many knives similar to it. This bradford is smaller and more pocket friendly. Thats the reason I originally bought the bradford was there is no other knife like it with the small over all length and perfect sized blade. You get a lot of blade for a very compact knife. But make no mistake, I love my esee knives and if I was going on a fly in remote trip or anything remote and away from my vehicle for extended time it would be an esee with me. Probably the 4 or the 6 and an izula in my pocket.
Quick question.. what are the negatives of m390
Not many negs. M390 is a fantastic steel. It holds an edge great is not to bad to sharpen and its a fairly strong steel as far as durability. Its perfect for a knife of this size. In bigger more hard use knives it could snap if being used too hard, but in this size its definitely strong enough. It has very good corrosion resistance. Only real downfall is it takes longer to sharpen then it does to dull it. But it does hold an edge longer that other steels. That's always the trick balance for people that use knives alot. If it golds an edge long it takes long to re sharpen. If it sharpens easy it dulls faster. If you are someone that doesn't use a knife often or can always sharpen it at hole on a belt sander or fast sharpening system then its a great steel. If you ate some one that uses a knife daily and often sharpening is done in the field or in camp a easier sharpening steel might be better. Its all a balancing act. 390 does exactly what its designed to and does it perfectly. Just need to know if thst is what you need. There is no perfect knife steel. You want to find the one that best meets your requirements.
Have you looked at the ESEE Xancudo fixed blade
Yep beautiful knife as well. Prefer the size and shape of the bradford for edc for myself. But love esee!
Getting a Bradford Guardian 3. Do you sell index sheaths? great review
I do not. Just make them for myself. But lots of great sheath makers all over. Including the excellent one bradfor sells on thier website.
Just ordered a 3v model tiger stripe g10
amazing knife and amazing steel.
Thanks for the video. Since you are a self professed knife "freak" what is your take on automatics? Do you have any?
I do not have any autos. I like fixed blades and don't even jave many folders anymore.
390 needs a M to
I am big and fat I carry a WINKLER belt knife. It is AWESOME and I can get it razor sharp.Best knife I have ever had!!
fantastic. glad you found something that works great for you.
I enjoyed the video but you don't take a breath. My heart rate actually sky rocketed just watching, you speak really quickly.
Sorry about that
Just a question, any particular reason you don’t like S30V steel? And what about the 1095 do you like? I just don’t know much about both those steels.
Great question! I have broke a blade in s30v and its also a steel that I struggle to get sharp and it doesn't stay sharp any longer than m390, or other steels i can sharpen very quick and hold edges just as good.
The 1095 if heat treated by esee, tops, or travis styles holds an edge very well, sharpens so fast is almost to easy and is very break resistant and almost impossible to chip or damage. For me 1095 is predictable. Meaning I know what it can take and what abuse it will handle and I can sharpen it very fast so I'm not afraid to cut crap I should not be cutting as i can put the edge back in seconds. Now this new cpm3v is very similar to 1095 just better in most categories so its like a 1095 on steroids. But cpm3v is new for me and not yet proven like 1095 is. But I jave high hopes for it.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast thanks for the reply. I was looking at bradfords knives after the video, I would like to buy one in the future. The only “nice” knife I have is a guide series buck knife made from S30V, that is for gutting and skinning so I don’t use it much, got it as a birthday gift in Feb. I think maybe that’s a mistake and I should use it more to know it well.
@@MiguelTheFirst133 that s30v is fantastic for what you are using it for. It holds an edge all the way thru a whole deer gutting and processing and is very stain resistant. That knife will last forever doing what you are doing with it and it will never let you down.
@@SamkoTradBow hmm thats weird that you cant get s30v sharp but you can do m390. m 390 is much harder to sharpen than s30v in everything ive heard and did. ask anybody which is harder to sharpen and hands down will say m390. but i guess its different for everybody. no its doesent stay sharp longer than m390 m390 is atleast 3 steps ahead of s30v but the cost is higher to
@@bigsean2473 yep not sure why but have not had good luck with s30v so gave up on it. Like 390 and love 3v!
Hi Bowhunting, micarta or g10 for Guardian3? Why? I can’t make up my mind ((
Personal preference. Both are great materials
Aebl or n690 for light edc stuff?
Either is great. No experiential the Abel yet
Handle looks too short for my hands; I gotta go with and esee izula 2.
Keep it up
Thanks
You should make a new video on how you like or dislike the bradford 3v after a while of using it! Please
Will try and make that happen. All I ise the 3v for is animal work and light in the field use as its my "hunting knife". But I straight up love it! Sharpens well, holds an edge well, etc. Now the m390 I carry every day and love it too. But man I hate having to sharpen it when away from home. It takes a bit to do.
This! I would like to see how both steels hold up to abuse that would normally bend or break your 1095 blades.
Me personally, the m390 would likely be enough, but if the 3v is that much tougher, I wouldn't mind being able to throw it/stab it into a log and not worry about damage.
I'm leaning toward this over the tops cut 4.0, but I love both designs.
@@operatorfpv7277 in this size knife 390, 3v, etc all work fantastic. But personally I think in a bigger hars use knife I'm still going 1095. It's predictable solid and doesn't break often. But I have 1095 for so long I'm very biased about it. I'm sure all these new steels are great. But I have a solid history with 1095.
Curious how this 3v Bradford has held up?
Excellent so far. I have not really beat on it as I'm using it as a k ife in my pocket while hunting. But use it for cutting rope animals etc. Don't have the time to do much bushcraft or survival stuff these days. Bit hopefully this winter
White River GTI 3 is better imo. Thicker stock, and it's tougher. Plus, I prefer the handle on the GTI 3. Not too many people even know about it.
White river makes great knives. The guardian is hands down my favorite knife design for edc.
Nothing about scales? I am curious between textured vs the more round scales.
I dont have the rounded ones to compare.
que opinas del Bradford G-Necker Elmax???
never owned the necker. Plan to someday. but no experience with it yet.
Man, I would love to get one, if only that finger groove was gone.
Dude, have you check that there is an interesting little necker made by Bradford , and in elmax steel ?
I did see that. And its a great price. Will get one someday.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast Just got my new G-necker today, such a sharp and nice little knife. I use the way you carry neck knives and it so convenient.
@@user-nw7br1np2y awesome! Glad you like it. I will get one soon
Bradford has the 3v up on their website now but I recommend the 3d handles they are just perfect and fit the hand amazingly

Thanks. Yep no safe queen blades here.lol
How is the 390?, soft and breaks??
opposite! hard and takes a while to sharpen.
Ok. I was just wondering, because you said that you wouldn’t take it camping. Only for edc around urban zone. And that 1095 was strong for camping
@@carlostovar8585 yep the 390 is very hard and holds an edge well. But it's too hard to sharpen in the field fast and I don't trust it for hard use like I do 1095. 1095 is super durable, reliable and predictable and sharpens very fast, even though it doesn't hold an edge as long. I'm not saying 390 is bad. Especially on a knife this size it's property perfect. And I do love it. But in thw woods for hard use or often use I'm taking 1095 personally because I love it so much.
Have you checked out the bradford gnecker?
Yes. I don't own one yet but it sure is a sweet knife
@@SamkoTradBow so if you were to build just one guardian 3 from their website and have only one, what blade steel, fastener type, blade finish, handle, and blade grind would you chose? Don't have a ton of cash to be throwing at knives. Just need a good edc/hunting knife. I also have a wrkt m1 caper in s35vn. What are your dislikes with that steel?
Just wanting to learn from people who have more experience with different blade steels. I'm a knife noob only have had s30v and s35vn

The 3v is my favorite version. I carry thr 3v in the woods everytime I go. Holds an edge well, Re sharpens very fast and is very durable. The 390 version is my everyday carry and used in urban environments as a glorified box cutter.

Can't believe you don't like the white river. My caper fits my hand so much better than the guardian 3.
Yep its not my favorite. I also just don't like s30v steel much either. But its all personal preference. The knife, the company and the steel are all fantastic! The caper is my wife's favorite knife to use. She loves how it fits her hand and the size. Nothing wrong with any white river knife.
@@SamkoTradBow I just got it a week ago in s35vn, but probably not much difference. I really like the deep choir for protecting my finger while processing in the dark. I confess that mine is more for meat processing, and the blade profile is better for the skinning port than the g3. All good, I got my g3 used at a good price, and it is m390 but with a swedge. Don't trust that tip.
@@patrickkelly7284 you will love the white river! Yeah I never understood a false edge. I guess they are good from what i hear but I want the meat in the tip too.
Hey guys! I have a question, has the Whiteriver caper a bigger handle than the Bradford Guardian 3?
@@lionknives3 it is a touch longer. Has a very nice feel and a large choil. If they made it in 3v, I would buy another.
Why don't you like S30V?
For some reason I struggle to sharpen it fast and it doesn't really gold an edge longer than other steels i can sharpen faster. It's just a steel thst doesn't agree with me. Bit it is an amazing steel and many many people love it. It just doesn't agree with me as much as other steels do.
@@SamkoTradBow Fair enough. I never liked the idea of having to deal with rust and constantly do preventative maintenance, but I suppose some things matter more than others to different people.
I thought I was the only one who isn’t a fan of S30v. I have a Benchmade 940 in S30v. It is a fantastic knife. I love everything about it, except when it’s time to sharpen it. It’s just like you said, s30v takes much longer to sharpen, but doesn’t hold the edge much longer. I also have a mini griptilian in 154cm, and that’s way easier to sharpen. Unfortunately, years of steel snobs have created a market that allowed benchmade and many other companies to offer only premium steels, and now they can charge more money. The griptilian “base model” now comes in s30v, which means that they cost $10-15 more than they used to, and if you want a steel other than S30v, you have to pay even more to “upgrade.” Its bullshit.
@@suitedandbooted6612 S30V is more suited to the average user willing to maintain a good knife. Also, there are four reasonably likely possibilities that could explain the perceived lack of edge retention. You may not be sharpening correctly, you damage the edge by doing things that would affect other steels differently, you got one with a bad heat treat, or you simply may have a negative bias and thus have a negative placebo effect. My guess is that you aren't sharpening the steel correctly.
@@suitedandbooted6612 yep miss the mini grip in 154! It was a perfect pocket knives. Could cut up 20 boxes and quickly resharpen it on the bottom of a coffee cup and cut 20 more!
I gave my Guardian 3 to a man I love a childhood friend. It's well made. The best sheath on earth. But. BUT- I will never buy another guardian 3 MEN THE HANDLE IS SHAMEFULLY TINY not filling even half the hand. I want a 3.5
I wear a large size glove and very happy with the bradford 3 handle. Especially for an edc knife that I'm not using for long periods of time like I would a bushcrafter.
I don't like the leather sheath that came with my Bradford. You can't get a belt through it
Depends on the belt size. I never used the leather one as I made my own kydex sheaths immediately.
