I honestly can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve been playing FFXI since I was 9. In the recent years of playing ffxi; I’ve literally gave up playing due to the intense stigma left that my old linkshell put on me. I had to be the best but I had no guide to achieve.. when I messed up I would get yelled at or they push me back to the sidelines and not learn. But this video literally gave me the courage and hope to get back to playing the game I love. Thank you for making ffxi fun again!

In all honesty, Sparks gear isn't *that* terrible of a place to start once you hit level 99. At the very least, you can easily solo classic content all the way up until the last few RoV missions with it.
I been trying to come back awhile off and on. I get frustrated and take a break. Your video is very inspiring. Your right I need a linkshell. We used to do things how your video ended and that’s really the fun working together. I miss that.

This is a great video, but I'd like to add one thing: Don't skip ALL of the level 99 sparks gear. There are gear sets in there for increasing your skill gain rate and are very helpful. Plus you'll probably be naked when you first hit 99 so the skill set gear will be a decent set to get so it will be easier to get the bayld for the 119 stuff.

I've watched tons of videos over the last 15 years playing this game and as a returning player trying to figure out this overwhelming mess of current content, These have been the best videos I've watched and I'm sad there aren't any current ones.
got a couple of friends helping me out right now with this (went scholar, and its been amazing watching me go from barely tickling the mobs HP to dropping 25-30k magic bursts)

I just started, joined an LS and there's a guy in it that regularly helps me out with stuff I need to do, what I do like, is that I can play the game at my own pace without fomo, what I don't like, it feels empty and lonely to me cause all my fondest memories are in the low level zones seeing that I never got a high level, but I know that all the partying is at endgame.
Came back to FFXI yesterday but rather than my 75 char from WotG era (when I quit) I've started a new char (on Asura of course, my old server) and having a blast. Just got my subjob unlock and the nostalgia is great. I hated the idea of trusts when they first came out but with real life the way it is now 20 years later they are a god send. Just need to find an LS to join and have fun with now.

This is an amazing video. Everyone who wants to get back into this game should watch it. Master levels in addition to Square Enix opening gear choices back up, have made a wonderfully flexible gameplay experience, that does not lack the feeling of "validation" or "earning it" from the early days. Come to Asura.

I played this game from launch to seekers, but a lot of ppl/friends wanted me to use 3rd party tools. As they stopped playing, I went to try out ffxiv. But my first love will forever be ffxi. I just hope I can find a friendly linkshell that will be okay with me just playing the game slow and steady, without 3rd party tools. I never was much of an endgamer, it was just so daunting. I enjoyed traveling around with friends and exploring the world of Vana'diel.^^

By all means give it a whirl! It's awesome, the free trial gives you a base line experience - you wont get to fully experience things but it could help to figure out if you can adjust to the way movement, leveling, etc works :)

This video is awesome. As someone who jumped into it with a fresh account who hasn't played since the ps2 era, this was a great rundown.
Have you thought about making a gil making guide for sub 99 players?
Easiest gil for sub 99s: get Sparks via RoE quests, buy Acheron shields (level 74-98 gear) from the Sparks vendor, and sell them to an NPC for about 28k each. You can spend 100k sparks a week, so you can buy 36 of these shields, for almost 1 Million gil a week. Buy your maps, and upgrade that Gobbiebag (inventory space). Honestly, 1 million gil a week should be more than plenty until you are looking at JSE neck pieces, +2/3 relic/artifact upgrades, and REAM weapons.

my best Advice to give is FOR GOD SAKES LEVEL THIEF, doing a Daily Odyssea is an easy 2-3 mill daily (depends on how much scales and hides are worth in your server) if you know what you're doing, only need is 4 stacks of skeleton keys which are payed for by the Odyssea to begin with lol
You are missing a very important setting. Config > Windows > Shared > Window Effect, set it to Off.

Most linkshells are super greedy seeing someone get this kind of help is super rare. I merc around now but haven't been in a LS in about 3 years.

Tip for new players trying to skill up Enhancing magic: spam Enhancing spells like Protect on your Trusts. You'll have the same skill up rate as casting offensive magic on mobs. It's way faster than spamming Enhancing spells on yourself or real players.
