Its crazy to think that 50 to 75 percent of the water is actually being diverted for power generation instead of going over the falls. Imagine them at full force!
Much of the diversion is taken at night, 9 PM till 8 AM. It's sent to the niagara water reservoir then used during the day to generate electricity. The flow over the falls is more during daylight. And if there was no diversion the falls would quickly recede up river and cut the channel back, but that's been reduced to almost nothing, from 1 foot per year to 1 inch per decade, so the falls will stay were they are and we can view them far into the future.
The rock face above the observation desk is checked on a regular basis for loose rock and anything questionable is removed. The falls has likely receded from the escarpment to its current location (11 km) and its route is littered with giant bolders. There is always a chance that something catastrophic would happen but spending 5-10 minutes on the desk should pose little risk.
My dear,I feel on that way too. I was with my baby one year old,and pregnant with onother in the sixt m. When we take a turist ship down on the river, under the fall. Both are striking, but unless you’re in the air viewing the Grand Canyon you don’t get the vast scale. Slight edge goes to the Falls because you can see all at once.
Every spring the rock face of the gorge is checked and any possible rock issues are handled ( scaling , etc ) on both sides of the border. The Niagara River gorge can be quite dangerous, but as well beautiful . We here in WNY and Southern Ontario are very lucky to live by such a wonder of nature.

It's been like that for thousands of years, ever so slightly eroding stone, the accident will not happen for another 20,000 years, no joke.
Where's the accident? They do maintenance on every part of the falls that tourists are going to be.
