Disney is awful. For decades, they made middling, saccharine garbage, and raked in piles of cash because it was all so inoffensively appealing to uncritical consumers too easily willing to part with their money, and charged three times what the competition charges for their second-rate fare. And when they scratch together enough cash from getting families to stay within their parks for all-inclusive vacations, to pay too much for DVDs and to pay even more for their streaming service and downloads (which used to be a standard cable channel included in the basic package but now in some cases is the only way to get content you might have once enjoyed on other platforms), they purchase things that someone else made with far superior talent and attention to the craft. Almost immediately, they ruined Marvel and Star Wars, filling the story lines with "woke" nonsense and, especially in the case of the latter, destroying beloved characters and once-excellent story arcs. I wonder if they do this on purpose, out of spite for the far superior story creations of other writers, or if it's all a glaring example of their sheer incompetence and the inevitable result is more saccharine fare.
The Beatles are the Star Wars of music, it makes sense & they might have got a 2 for 1 deal. I plan on doing a trial sub & cancelling right after I watch
I don't know how I feel about this, but it might mean that it is more accessible to everyone which is great! Hope Disney+ gets to my country by then otherwise I will be one sad Beatlemaniac.
Disney+ has over 100 million subscribers. Huge numbers for a service that's only a few years old! So, yes, this is great for accessibility (and maybe helping foster new fans)... except where you can't even get the service if you want it. :( Sorry. Where do you live? I looked at the country list of where it *is* currently available, and it was pretty extensive.
@@FabFourArchivist I don't care about 100 million subscribers. I've been a Beatles fan for decades and I'm not willing to subscribe to anything and pay American kitsch dream moguls for getting access to Beatles music. The Beatles united people all over the world in a movement of joy and hope and enthusiasm. You didn't have to 'qualify' for Beatlemania. Yes, you had to spend some money, and more over the years, and even more in recent months, when fans who are not terribly well off may more than think twice about Pauls Explorer's edition or Georges crate of gnomes. But this is getting ridiculous. 'Join the club and buy our whole package or get lost.' That's how I see it. I'm angry.
I get the fixed income thing… but if it really is a matter of money (and not hating Disney for whatever reason), just get it for a month and cancel after watching. That would still be cheaper than going to then movies to see it. Now, if you want it for free, I don’t know what to tell ya. 🤷🏻♂️
@7:55 "I'm sick and tired of seeing things from Disney-fied, sanitised, mommy's little story-tellers All I want is the truth. Just gimme some truth." --John Lennon, (paraphrased)
That's the problem for me too. For it to go onto Disney, their lifestyle at that time is going to have to be HIGHLY sanitised and censored to the hilt. I could only imagine it would be worse if Disney had the rights to the Guns 'n' Roses story, as The Beatles were thoroughly enjoying everything life had to offer at the time this film is based. Whacky mismatch from a business perspective, in my opinion.
Although its great to have 6 hours of Peter Jackson's Get Back, I also feel that the 2 hour version SHOULD be released on August 27th, Movie theaters are hurting and need new releases to be shown on the big screen, In some ways I feel Disney is shooting themselves in the foot by not showing this first in theaters and then showing the 6 Hour version on Disney plus.
I'm just a new generation fan of The Beatles and I can't wait to see it. I wished it had been released in movie theatres would have been great to see it with other Beatles fans but I'm just happy to be "there" for something "new" that even old fans might have seen.
I hate the Disney+ part too, but to be fair, a 1 month unlimited Disney+ subscription is probably cheaper than a singular theatre ticket, and you can cancel anytime without penalty.
I agree - release the whole 60 hours with film editor (nice idea!), in addition to PJ's briefer, professionally edited version - 'The Gist' for those with less time, money and/or interest in Beatle archives. Anyone can then challenge or complement his view with their own edit. Fans can also make their own mini-videos of their personal favourite moments, or on different themes (eg Beatles dancing/clowning, George and Ringo, Paul and John, John and Yoko, funny bits, best unused takes, awkward moments, etc, etc).
You're not alone here. I think a lot of folks will just sign up to binge it, then quit after the first month. To those who won't or can't (Disney+ isn't available in all countries), hopefully a physical release isn't too far behind!
I made a huge mistake when Eight Days a Week came out, found out it had been showing at a theater about a hour away, and said, "Eh, I'm busy-I'll go next week..." and the run ended after two weeks. I found out later that the whole concert was up in the theaters, and that was it...
It's been a while since you've uploaded, but it's really great to see you again. I still am confused why Disney is the one distributing this. Amazon Prime or Netflix would have been a better choice, if I gotta be honest. Now the worst thing I can say is that since this is on Disney+, I would probably "p-word" it...
Hey Mark. Good to hear from ya. Yeah, I've gotta stop disappearing like that! IMO here's how the distribution/streaming deal went down: Just like ABC had exclusive rights to the Anthology project (in the US anyway), Disney ponied up the best deal for distribution when Apple was shopping the project. I'd bet Netflix, etc. actually bid on the project, but Apple had big hopes that this would be a major in-person movie event. And who better than Disney for that? Disney+ was probably part of the package the whole time (2 vs 6 hours), but when COVID happened, it was a fairly easy pivot to D+ for the whole thing.
@@FabFourArchivist I agree, that's probably how it happened. But it just seems an odd match, both from a subject/distributor point of view, and from the viewing audience perspective. Total mismatch infact !
I’m a conflicted on this. The big cons for me are that I won’t be able to see this at a movie theater and I’m not sure if they’ll do a home release now, though chances are good. Also will there be profanity or will it be cut out? But I do love that we’re getting six hours, that almost makes up for everything. My long shot dream is for Jackson to release a giant 60 hour extended cut but that almost sounds like fantasy
Same argument from myself. Most people interested in The Beatles ain't oing to have kids of an age where they want to watch Disney channels either. Can't see how that makes any sense for Disney, unless they just bought it along with the cinema and DVD rights. Puzzling from a business point of view.
As much as I dislike needing to buy a subscription, to be honest, one month of unlimited Disney+ is probably cheaper than a single theatre ticket. You can cancel any time. So just pay for a month, watch the series, and cancel.
I don't know any Beatles fan that would trade a six hour version just to see a two hour version in a movie theatre. I couldn't care less about seeing it in a theatre.
Here in Australia Eight Days A Week played in the major cinemas and it was amazing seeing it on the big screen. I was looking forward to the same with Get Back and will not be subscribing to Disney+ just to see this.

But a 6h Version on demand would be a fantastic bonus for every Beatles fan and archive material lover. Let see what they‘ll do... But I guess they handle on behalf of the fans. :) I hope I passed the audition...
Glad to finally see you back and weighing in on this. Love your explanations and research and insight. And your speculations as well! I am glad it has now been lengthened to 6 hrs. I would still prefer to see it first on the big screen in 2 or 3 separate showings. Hope they do that as well. Your thoughts on that possibility appreciated.
@@Neil-Aspinall Its not really even the same album though, its stripped down and the songs sound fuller on the original its just that its not mixed very well.
It's a shame Peter Jcakson has turned his back on theatrical film. I, for one, certainly won't be giving in to Disney extorsion. We need fewer streaming options, not more. More streaming = more litter to crawl through to find quality content. A real lose-lose decision.
You can sign up for Disney+ for one month and then cancel. That is cheaper than one cinema ticket, and you can have your entire family watch it. What’s the problem?
Yeah, releasing it only for Disney Plus subscribers is just great. God knows, they're the only Beatles fans out there. (sarc.) Even if it is eventually released on DVD, how many years will that be?
I'm not a fan of Disney either, but you could make the argument that with their more than 100 million subscribers, this is actually a platform where *more* people can see it than had it been given a theatrical release alone. Besides, it's like $13/mo right? Cheaper than a movie ticket on a Friday night. People can just sub to watch it once and then un-sub.
@@FabFourArchivist Well, then they should release it on other platforms and let consumers choose which one they want to access the film on. Instead, they're trying to dictate that choice. BTW, I think about 330 million people would have access to it if it had been in release in movie theaters. You're taking the number of Disney Plus subscribers and assume they'll all watch it and comparing it to people who actually attend movies in theaters. That's an apples/oranges comparison.
@@Rogerholberg it’s a smart business move. More people will buy Disney+ for this and then some will decide to keep it. We live in a capitalist society and I totally respect what they’re doing.
Why is everyone making such a big deal about not being able to see this in movie theaters? Going out among a bunch of Yahoos is way, way overrated, especially nowadays with all the insanity and health risks. I prefer watching at home and with extra footage to boot!
I am really upset that it will not be in theatres, i wonder how it feels to be in a crowd waiting for film about beatles, see other fans and beatles having fun on big screen.
Damn ! I like the idea of the 6 hrs, but I was really looking forward to seeing this in the theatres, on a really Big Screen with a great sound system. I am really disappointed that is not happening. I saw The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter doc in a theatre a few yeas ago. A nice, clean 35 mm print, and the sound was turned up in the cinema, and it was a truly amazing experience. I had only seen it on home video many times, but never in a theatre. Same with The Band: The Last Waltz, a magnificent experience (twice) in a theatre with an audience. I was was over joyed I would get to see The Beatles Get Back, restored and re-edited, screened in A Theatre, with an audience. This is a major let down. Especially Post-Pandemic. What a treat it would have been. Please re-consider, even a limited time theatrical release of the restored 2 hr version.
I have a feeling that I will be thrilled to see the 6 hours of footage on Disney+ over Thanksgiving in glorious high-definition. I've got a bootleg of the "Let It Be" DVD and it does feel dark and claustrophobic except for the Rooftop Concert. I'm sure I will get this project on Blu-ray so I can revisit it many times in the future just like I do now with Anthology. I am a bit bummed that we won't get to see a two-hour cut in the theater. That would have been a fantastic communal experience. I won't complain over getting 6 hours via streaming service as long as we get a physical copy release. The main question I have is the situation with the super-deluxe version of the "Let It Be" album. Hundreds of hours of audiotapes can be culled for sonic gems that will delight the fans. I could see a release along the lines of The White Album content-wise. The main message for Apple is to shut up, put out the product we want, and take our money!
I think it’s a wise move streaming it. I don’t plan on setting foot in a cinema / theatre anytime soon or even this year. Also, I already have D+. Interestingly, that release date is exactly 42 years to the date I first saw Paul play live here in Liverpool.
It really bothers me that Disney has enough money to claim everything cool and great, always created by someone else, and somehow that gives them the power to ruin it. Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and now the Beatles. Hopefully they don't ruin this...
Hey Lance! Was waiting for this one to drop! Cheers! Great tache by the way! Very early 67! We really need to know if there are any physical releases soon. I am sure there will be but who knows. Hopefully no silly uber box sets though!
When this project was 1st announced, I sent a message to Apple suggesting that Paul and Richard should consider doing a new recording of "Two of Us". The lines "You and I have memories ..." Being especially poignant in 2021. It could be simple and newly recorded, although it's also not unreasonable to suppose that they could use a Beatle out take for the backing track. Either would be a wonderful affirmation and addition to this project. Now that the project has expanded and the release date pushed back, I can only hope that they took this idea to heart...
People seem very upset about paying for yet another streaming service, I would recommend to just pay for a month when the time comes (which I think it's fairly cheap in comparison to theaters) and then cancel the subscription, I think Disney+ even has a free trial, so I don't see what's so wrong about it
I'm getting ready to turn 72 this November and I feel that unless your from my generation or close to it, the younger generation really won't care that much about this film! It's not their music, even though they might like the Beatles, you had to have lived through it to feel the magic of their music and the magic of the times! There is no nostalgia attached to the Beatles or their music, you just had to have been there!

An ideal situation would be to have the 2-hour movie theatre release this summer and then an in-depth 6-hour director's cut on Disney or wherever. I was really looking forward to seeing this in the theatre. And I'm really sick of having to subscribe to a new service just to see something. I will be subscribing for a month and canceling after I watch it.
It would be amazing to watch the film at the cinema, but the pandemic situation would not allow a lot o people aroud the world to enjoy it (incluiding me, I'm from Brazil and I'm still not sure when I'll get vaccineded, and you might know about the chaos in here). Besides, 6 hours of film is waaay much better than only 2, I'm even more excited than I was before! So yeah, I'm definely supporting a lot the release on Disney+ hahaha, c'mon guys, it's 6 intire hours about the Beatles, this is already wonderful And nice video, by the way!
Glad to see you back. Thanks for the update on the Get Back movie. Cannot wait till it is released. I do hope that they allow the purchase of the streaming version since I got rid of most of my Blu-ray media.
Super excited about the 6-hour version. I know I'll love every frame of it. And, sometimes less is more. For the sake of repeat viewings, I hope we eventually also get that edited tight 2- hour version. And yes, it's very important to me to be able to own it all some day. I'd pay a lot for a boxset that contained everything.
Disappointed to be honest. I was really looking forward to taking my Mum to the cinema to watch this.(she's an original fan) For me there isn't any good news, it's just a non-event now.
Perfect timing for anyone upgrading to a larger smart TV and sound system a few weeks before to watch Get Back on Disney+ just before Black Friday. For me, watching it at home with family and friends would be better than my local theater that's basically project the image from a server with no Dolby ATMPS(immersive) support. Just because it's on Disney+, the movie may show the Beatles swearing at each other.
I want the whole thing. A theater movie can’t help but be too glossy. It’s not a movie. It’s a cultural artifact and as usual, The Beatles are making the best artistic decision!
The best artistic decision would be to release it for free on CZcams or their website. Is that a good idea? No, absolutely not. Releasing it on Disney+ is simply just the most financially sound decision. Yeah it’s kinda annoying but I don’t blame them too much.
I heard (from only one source so far) that some time after the Disney stream there will be a DVD, BluRay AND a 4K release! BTW, for those who want to know exactly when the streaming will begin, HBOmax began streaming Zack Snyder’s Justice League at 3 am EST, and it’s STILL streaming there over 3 months since it was made available!
I have been so looking forward to Get Back, like many other Beatle fans. I have subscribed to Netflix, but not Hulu, nor the Disney+ channel. One good thing is, by the time it actually rolls out, this senior lady may have spare cash on hand to subscribe, but I'm not sure I'd keep it. I feel like Disney has diluted the Star Wars brand's appeal (MO)--so that I have no desire to view it anymore: even the original releases. My hope is that this won't happen to Get Back, or any other films in the Beatles catalogue if Disney obtains them. I am sorry for fans who say they'll miss out because of affordability. I also wish GB could've been enjoyed with a theater crowd: it would be like all that love and enjoyment could've been a communal experience, as you do at their concerts. I sure hope a Blu-Ray will be available as quickly as possible. To quote Ringo: Peace and Love!
@@Jonathanest90s Nope, but I'd rather watch a two+ hours Beatles movie on the big screen, with Dolby Atmos sound. And I probably would have bought the 6 hour Blu-Ray anyway. Which by the way I hope will be available for purchase, because - again - F**K Disney!
Thank you for your speculations. As a UK citizen I wondered about Disney's timing; it is set to Thanksgiving Day. The band need to get the release of this project right first time to avoid flack from picky consumers. So 1st the big £30 book coming out in October, postponed 31st of August, 2nd the showing of six hours of footage on Disney + very late November, 3rd the multi-format boxed set with no release date so far. This will contain the 'de-Spectored' 'Let It Be' on CD and other digital formats, and on vinyl, several booklets, a restored 'Let it Be' film on blu ray, and the fullest version of 'Get Back' on blu ray. So far no scheduled cinema viewings, though some sort of select cinema premier for the right journalists and celebrities would be high profile publicity. No word on what might appear and when on youtube, and no advance notice on extra/different audio material, of which there must be tons, to made available in digital only. The only question left is how many questions the different formats might still leave unanswered for Beatles watchers. However free the hand is that the band have given director Peter Jackson, they left questions behind with Anthology and they may do so again with this project.
It is possibly the most sensible thing Apple Corps did by showing it first on a global streaming platform like Disney+, and would be one contract that is global. I cannot imagine the vast amounts of paperwork that had to take place in selling the TV Rights of the Anthology to every single country, in terms of signing contracts with each separate TV Company. At the time London Weekend Television on behalf of ITV here in the UK. ABC in the US for instance. My guess is that Apple Corps could not get a theatrical release for the film, because they want the six hour release to be shown uncut, Maybe it will be shown for one day in cinemas, at a later date if it is a huge success on Disney+. They wanted Peter Jackson/Fran Walsh and their team for this, because they are able to deal with extremely large projects, that takes years to be fully completed, and trust them to give a fully revisionist history of what actually happened. Wait and see what will happen with the physical releases.
Ah, the voice of reason tinged with optimism - I'm very happy to see that you've chimed in on this issue and overall, it's great to see a video from you again!
The original Let It Be movie was like a lesson in how not to edit something. It was barely coherent and relied heavily on the well-informed viewer to impose meaning where there wasn't any and make sense of what to the casual viewer must have seemed a mess. What a pity Jackson has declined the chance to put that right in the same format, but then this man, for all his strengths, seems to regard concision as a weakness. The longer series format will have different benefits, but, like many others, I'll have to wait to see it rather than pay Disney+.

So Disney have got their claws into The Beatles? Kill me now.

@@FabFourArchivist Well, I don’t have Disney Channel because I live on a fixed income and can’t afford it, so I am hugely disappointed.

I hate the Disney+ part too, but to be fair, a 1 month unlimited Disney+ subscription is probably cheaper than a singular theatre ticket, and you can cancel anytime without penalty.
They should release all 60 hrs with a included film editor and let fans make thier own film. wouldnt that be cool as hell. wat u think
Or just watch the whole 60 hours since it’s probably more interesting and honest that way.
Sounds boring as crap. Thank God Jackson went in and got the better stuff.
Ucchh if it's on Disney Plus, I am boycotting it. I wouldn't watch that channel if they paid me to.

You're not alone here. I think a lot of folks will just sign up to binge it, then quit after the first month. To those who won't or can't (Disney+ isn't available in all countries), hopefully a physical release isn't too far behind!

I'm afraid he's right about that. Disney should be boycotted into oblivion.
Has anyone heard if they are finally getting around to releasing the restored Shea stadium concert on Blu Ray or 4k?
I made a huge mistake when Eight Days a Week came out, found out it had been showing at a theater about a hour away, and said, "Eh, I'm busy-I'll go next week..." and the run ended after two weeks. I found out later that the whole concert was up in the theaters, and that was it...
Has anyone seen any decent quality footage, with acceptable sound from that show? I certainly haven't.
Not so sure a Shea Stadium concert Blu-Ray would be that successful. Would it not look old-hat now? Then again, i could well be wrong.
The Beatles weren't JUST the biggest band in the world.
They were the biggest, AND the GREATEST, band in HISTORY.
They signed a contract with The Beatles in early 2020.

Disney is $7/month and you can cancel without penalty. That’s what I did to see Hamilton - watched it 3 times in one month, then adios.

As much as I dislike needing to buy a subscription, to be honest, one month of unlimited Disney+ is probably cheaper than a single theatre ticket.
You can cancel any time. So just pay for a month, watch the series, and cancel.

Damn them for putting it on Disney. Will have to wait for the blu ray.
Doesn't Disney owning the distribution rights mean they'll get your money anyway?
6 hour's watching the greatest band of all time , can't wait
Id rather have 6 hours than 2 - but i want it on the big screen!!!
I think it’s a wise move streaming it. I don’t plan on setting foot in a cinema / theatre anytime soon or even this year. Also, I already have D+.
Interestingly, that release date is exactly 42 years to the date I first saw Paul play live here in Liverpool.
sad its not being shown in a cinema, i would have happily spent 6 hours in a cinema watching the fabs!
It’ll will end up being the outtakes from the disastrous “Let It Be” movie.

There will still be a big-screen release a little later on. You can be sure they're going to get as much of our money as they can. :)
