- In a previous video I shared with you how to get rid of your non-words and your filler words because they distract from your message.
Now, when it comes to body language, the same kind of distractions exist not in auditory form but in a physical form.
I've been running workshops for many years now, and I want to share with you the top ten common tics or visual clutter that people tend to use that distracts from their message.
By the way if you're looking to start on your communication journey with me, check out my FREE 3 part series on communication skills:

This guy transformed himself tremendously
Thank you as always for your valuable pearls of wisdom! 🙏
I appreciate you watching Tovah! What was your biggest takeaway?
Thank you for replying Vinh! You made my day! 🙏
I am a Comm. major, and always look forward to you shining the light on an invitation to insight. 🤗
I would have to say the biggest take away would be being hypervigilent of those gestures I make when feeling anxious or nervy. Whether it's teaching fitness to large audiences or just interactions in general. Also how our posture is so essential and says so VERY much about us.
Always great gentle reminders with your wonderful and upbeat attitude! I appreciate you and all your hard work! Again, thank you for being YOU! 🙏
You're the best communication coach I know... most things are helping me in my life currently
thank you vinh, i start learning about storytelling yesterday, i thought it will be very easy but its not easy at all, i already make about 600+ tutorial video about programming but its a different story when i learn storytelling, i practice storytelling in front of a mirror and i also record it, today i plan to watch it, but its.. embarrassing, aaaa i will overcome this feeling and i wanna be a person that can tell a story to my new friend and i wanna be more social (at now i feel like a introvert, but i wanna connect to more people. i must overcome this)
Vinh, This was very helpful. I can't thank you enough, I totally get why those gestures are to be avoided. Even a brilliant speaker like you appear less attractive when you're displaying such body languages! I'm gonna share this to people whom I endear. I love every content that you share for us, you're truly a man of wisdom & Inspiration. My deepest gratitude from Korea.
I’ve been doing the “Thumb inside the pocket” because I thought that it seemed stylish or something 😅
Thanks for the heads up!
Love from India keep posting such videos , really helping a lot
Happy to help 🙏
Thank you so much for this material. I pass your material onto my sons, who are in public speaking.
Wow…I do every single one of these visual tics on a daily basis when speaking to others. The first step is being aware. Thank you!
1. Record yourself 5mins a day and watch it one day later how you act body and hands.
2. Lift toes, dont go up with shoulders!
3. No tapping and moving fast...
4. No hands in pockets
5. No hands on hips
6. No praying position.
7.
This is gold. Thank you!
Thank you Vinh! It helps me a lot especially in my career as a public servant.
I just discovered you and subscribed after first video from the acknowledgment mentioned in your video! Thumbs up
I like this guy, so informative ! And accurate!
excellent video as always Vinh!
I haven’t looked through all of your videos (and will). Do you have exercises for anyone who has phobia of public speaking? Literally, the heart rate goes up and although there’s so much great info to share and willingness to do so the nervous system takes over!
Interestingly, I sometimes use that last one strategically. Many people associate it with being the boss or leader. I don’t use it much (there are better ways to demonstrate authority) but once in awhile I use it to feign a higher role or ranking during meetings in my organization.
Use the leveler its nice....I ALSO USED TO DO THE LAST ON....But leveler hand movement re superior...
My you are absolutely great actor! Wonderful teachings 👏🙏🙌🏻🙏
Hi Vinh! Have you already written a book on public speaking or do you plan to write one?
Helpful AF... thank you for motivating me💕 love from India
You have a great channel with great content.
Again Thanks Mate💖
It's really helpful. I've a problem, while someone speaks with me I often get confused with the position of my hands
I hold my arms hanging without moving my hands, but I still think that's not a good posture of my arms
Excellent coaching !
My biggest issue when I do public speaking is that my legs shake so much. It's embarrassing. Any tips on shaking on stage in general? Thank you for the videos!! So informative!
great one vinh
Getting inspirations for my first book. Greetings from Angola, África.🤗🤗
Helpful really it is thanks alot
Thank you❣️
I've seen the last hand gesture from many speakers. But it looks good, effective. It didn't distract me from what they were saying. So maybe the last one is fine
Sir I am from Bangladesh. I'm trying to be fluent in English. I follow your videos to improve my communication skill so that when I get fluent, I get a better communicator as well
Salam man, try to speak in English more often, to yourself, to other, irrelevant.
I think the fingertips together can mean other than evil, it can be seen as a power move, let's say you will do an important move or remind people to watch your next move, interesting gesture, could be seen as a defensive move too, the hands are often closer together during it, I guess if it causes confusion it's best avoided or maybe not.
Hey,
So what are good go to poses for listening?
I find myself always doing the hand under chin technique now lol need other options
I need to learn more about this kind of stuff. Can you recommend a good book for me to learn from?
link for previous video please ?
Ecellent!
How will they affect nations stock markets?
Missed opportunity to try how it would look to do as many as possible at the same time 😬
Hey, thanks for the knowledgable Contant. I have a question what kind of posture I can use when there is three of us and two other percipient having conversation and I’m not involved I find myself struggling at that moment, because I feel that I am not participating in conversation, and I feel awkward just listening. Thx
Have you read how to Win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie? It really came into my mind when watching this video
Could someone link me the communication video that Vinh mentions in the intro? Thanks :-)
The bonus gesture made me think of Mr. Wonderful
Can I get a link to the previous video for audio clutters
Whenever i’m nervous , i cling into the microphone with two hands tight! Its hard to pull them out! Haha
When I’m nervous I cross my arms and stick my hands in my armpits and then smell my hands….what can I do to stop this 🤔
When i went to stage and present something my heartbeat gets fast and when im on stage i try to control but my voice become slower at some moments so kindly tell me that how i overcome on them
“Successful people make money. It’s not that people who make money become successful, but that successful people attract money. They bring success to what they do.” - Wayne Dyer...,,,
Thanks Vinh, I had the Hands in the pocket one.
What should we do them when coming on stage ? Make a video
There's a few videos on my channel talking more about some body language foundations and hand gestures, check those out!
Hello Vinh,
-Nothing to do about the topic-
Have you been in a fight in the past? (Receiving and giving punches)
What about visual "tics" that make you look more approachable and likeable
what about when someone's holding a microphone
I liked that chicken gesture 🫠
Last one, Mr Burns, or any presenter from Apple.
Ok then what to fo
so I should stop most of the things I do frequently
CANT EVEN CROSS MY ARMS 😭😭😭😭😭🤣
So what should I do?!?!?
Be myself?
I can’t do that!
Im too weird! Lmao
In bonus I think about sundar pichai
Hlo vinh
he has a big brain lol
Basically - be a normal human being.
You speak in Italian
on the boat 🚢 final game foundation 2003 and 2004 2005 and 2006 and 2007 and 2008 Malaysia 🇲🇾 Chinese United States of America 🇺🇸 United Kingdom British 🇬🇧 Russia 🇷🇺 Ukraine 🇺🇦 European 🇪🇺 off final game of donations and foundation
There’s nothing wrong with looking like a chicken. Suggesting this is speceist and will get you cancelled.
Bro needs to go to gym
Hand gestures are the most obnoxiously distracting movement of any speaker.
What a load of crap!! People can make all of these gestures for all sorts of reasons.
If you fold your hands like this, it does not mean this and if you fold your hands like that it means that nonsense. 🔥
Very cool video, and a guilty here of the 'Praying position'🥲
What if my hand is shaking and I’m holding a paper and I can’t stop shaking my hands so my paper starts to rapidly shake and then I’m absolutely terrified and then I blackout… 🫠
