  • Van Life Cooking | How Can You Bake Without An Oven In A Tiny Van? | RoadPro Portable Stove
    Within a tiny van there are a lot of things which commonly people would think you cannot do. One of which is baking! In less than 35 square feet how could it be possible? But believe it or not where there is a will there is a way and using a new Portable Stove cooking in a small space just got a little easier. In today's video I will explore the 12 volt cooking option of the RoadPRO Portable Stove and how it works with common dishes that might be of interest to the average nomad. Question of the Day: What is something you love cooking in the oven?

  • @kathleenkline4622
    @kathleenkline4622 Před 2 lety +175

    I cooked in a RoadPro a lot when I drove truck. A favorite meal was a small beef roast with all of the veggies. Another was bbq chicken. Do wrap the top of the aluminum pan as it will not only keep the interior cleaner, but also retains heat better. If you're worried about the bottom of the oven getting too hot, set it on a small sheet pan...it will also catch any drips that may escape when bouncing on rough roads. Pretty much anything you can cook in a slow cooker can be cooked in a Road Pro!

    Being a former trucker's wife....I would make up little casserole dinners in the pans and freeze for my hubby. Meatloaf, fried potatoes, hamburgers, and you can get up , fix some eggs with veggies and make omelet. Boil eggs for 90mins while driving.

    I Love my RoadPro oven!!! It’s so nice to pull over, pop something in the oven, plug it into the 12 volt, and then drive on down the road. When you get to where you’re going, you have a hot meal.

    • @BunnyPlaysHere

      Exactly!! I am most excited about that element. Typically that is dead time where only driving is accomplished but with this I can be "working" without working.... and then reap the benefits and rewards of whatever I popped into the cooker!! YUMMY!

      Watch the fellow use an aluminum tray spray it with Pam, sliced two potatoes thinly with skin made a layer at the bottom of the pan of that, sliced two carrots made a layer on top of the potatoes, sliced a small onion made a layer on top of the carrots, peel the clove of garlic layer on top of the onion, salt and pepper, half stick butter, topped with cubed ham and cheese. Covered it with foil opened it up about 3 hours later it looked freaking amazing

  • @chrisholds1
    @chrisholds1 Před 2 lety +27

    Something that works pretty well is a variant of baked apples.
    Use whatever baked apple recipe that you like, but with this difference; chop the apples - instead of stuffing them - into approximately 2" to 3" cubes. mix with the other ingredients, saving any sugar or honey until last. Sprinkle the sweetener on top (the sweetener will slowly melt down into the ingredients during cooking). Add a couple of tablespoons of water or juice (apple or orange). Cover the tray tightly with foil, then bake for an hour.
    Try not to open the lid during cooking because these things are like crock pots. Every time you open the cooker, you lose all of the built up heat in the cooker and add 15+ minutes to the cooking time.

    Great review!
    Just saw another CZcamsr using one of these with slow Cooker liners.
    The liners wouldn't melt, slow cookers get the same temperature.
    Much easier cleanups, less waste.
    And a silicone loaf pan would replace the disposable aluminum pans.

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  Před 2 lety +5

      I have been using slow cooker liners on this particular trip that I’m on but on items that are looser it still is not recommended so for mixes like banana bread and things like that they still do recommend a pan.

    I have one. I love it. I've cooked salmon, meatballs, veggies, you name it. It does take a longer time to cook than if you use a regular oven. But for traveling, or sometimes on a jobsite, I'll put something in and at lunch time I have a hot meal. Some places that sell them sell cookbooks for them. I get my aluminum pans from one of the dollar stores or even Wally World. You do have to be careful of cooking food that creates steam. It hangs on the upper parts and when you open it, it will drip hot water.

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  Před 2 lety +2

      I did notice that.. someone told me the best way to combat that is to unplug and let sit for a couple of minutes before opening. This allows the steam to chill a bit when being opened so you are less likely to have that initial contact. I don't know haven't tried it yet.. I just was very carful when opening it initially anyway....I found the dollar store to be great for the dishes but also will work with what I find near me so that might also mean a Walmart from time to time, but they seemed to have them in larger quantities for around $2-3 so that isn't bad.

    I have one, I use it mainly to warm leftovers. One tip to help with burning on the bottom of the aluminum pan is I use 2 stainless skewers, cut the length to fit the oven, put them in the bottom of the oven then put the aluminum pan on top of the skewers. They seem to really cut down on how much I burn.

And I love that. Never thought this could be a possibility. It’s also nice to know that I will no longer have to worry about rushing around at a campsite that I get to a little bit too late to cook something because I could’ve been cooking something on the way there to have a soon as I arrive. I've had one of these for 5 years...when I drove cross country in my 2009 VW Sportwagen, I used this to reheat pre-made, frozen wraps. I took them out of the main cooler in the morning and put them into an insulated bag so they could begin to defrost. They were wrapped in foil and I just popped them into one of those foil tins in the stove. Within about 40 minutes they were piping hot! A great hot lunch!! I plugged it into my cig lighter, and put it on the passenger seat floor...Was fabulous!!!! Loved your test of the power draw...planning to go out again and buy a power pack, so this is really helpful....Want to add a compressor fridge and would love to use a crockpot, too. Here's a tip...I do this at home, using a 1 + quart crockpot, the small size like the 12V units sold for the car. Spray the crock, put some sauce in the bottom, add DRY pasta..more sauce with maybe a bit of water to cover the pasta...then pile on your onions, zucchini, mushrooms, more sauce.....At home a throw a towel over the top...It cooks on HIGH for about an hour...and it's a great casserole...yummy!!!!!k Or, do it slower for about 6 hours or so and then it will stay warm if you cover the crock with a piece of Reflectix. Play it by ear and you'll learn the times as you experiment. I bet you could do it in a RoadPro....worth a shot!! OH..what was your final numbers on the power draw??

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  Před 2 lety +2

      Wonderful ideas for the cooker and something I will consider trying!! The final draw on the RockPals was 14% per 20 minutes while the Jackery ended up averaging about 4% in the same time frame over all the tests I did

BTW...if you do the same pasta/sauce/veg (zucc or eggplant thing) in a loaf pan in a broiler oven at home...cover with foil, bake setting, 35 min or so at 375! It's the perfect size to use oven ready lasagna noodles in and make lasagna... You can bake biscuits.. You can make pork chops ,chicken breasts, Spanish race with ground beef, Chicken and dumplings, I do Is 2 pork loin chops. One large carrot chopped 1 potato chopped a quarter of an onion chop.. Add a couple tablespoons of cream on mushroom soup.. No extra water or broth is necessary because your meat gives off a lot of juices.. It's the same no matter what meat you use.. And you have a complete meal in about 2 hours.. If your chops are thick..

    Plus a pizza! He is a good man.

    Hey Bunny
    Just wanted to comment on the lunchbox warmer
    It's amazing it will cook everything.
    It will boil water
    Use the disposable meatloaf pans
    I cooked a full turkey dinner in this road pro
    Heated turkey in the gravy
    Made stovetop stuffing
    Cooked my vegetables
    It will bake cornbread
    I lived in my Ford F350 truck for 3 years and used it full time
    Love full-time travel

      First and foremost that sounds exciting to be camping in an SUV! I know that you’ll have a wonderful adventures! Also I will always take a complement when somebody says I remind them of their daughter LOL that makes me smile to know that you can relate to my personality on a personal level. Last but not least the road pro is absolutely worth it especially if you’re driving to get to your campsite you could have something nice and cozy whatever you get there ready to eat.

      First and foremost congratulations! There are so many cool things that you can do while staying in your vehicle. I know that there is a little bit of a process to getting adapted to it however you got this! This particular device has been super handy for me especially on longer drives. I’ve heated everything from frozen eggrolls all the way up to cooking chicken entirely from raw. It’s great with veggies also.

    How wonderful is this! A perfect gift for yourself for Christmas. We have had more traditional oven in our RV but if we did not we would certainly be picking up one of these. Everything you made looks like it could be very easy to prepare. And those brussels sprouts looked very good. Would you mind sharing your recipe for all of us who missed the ingredients?

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  Před 2 lety +13

      Absolutely I can share a little bit of this I just change up the recipe from time to time so on this particular instance I used the Brussels a little bit of fresh garlic balsamic and then Mrs. Dash salt and pepper and curry powder. Just a little bit though also a tiny bit of paprika and powdered onion. Sometimes I also substitute in finally chopped onion and it is delightful the little crispies of the onions make for a delicious flavor

  • @CindyCaVANas
    @CindyCaVANas Před 2 lety +6

    For the soupy sauce, nothing a little bit of cornstarch won't fix without changing the flavor. Oh My! look at that bread! Brussel sprouts are my favorite! Yum! ...I wonder if everything would cook faster when plugged into the car lighter. I would try silicon dish; it might be easy to flip n brown. I want one now! Lol 👌 Thank you for the review.

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes that was one option, but I didn't have corn starch...lol.. I even thought about making it into a dumpling soup but the dumplings and pasta I think would have been a bit much on carb overload...lol.. I will be trying the car lighter when I travel.. I am looking into silicone dishes and seeing if anyone who has used these long term mentions success with them or if they say to steer clear.. sometimes things work better when they use certain items... so researching all this before hitting the road to Arizona!!

      It's really good when u have a silicon lid on it. I have a glas pan with a silicon lid from Ikea, since I don't want to cook in aluminum and used it on somthing similar then this. Full silicon is also good, since it won't burn cake etc., so easy at the bottom.

    • @ewakraft5770
      @ewakraft5770 Před 2 lety +1

      @@CindyCaVANas Don't do that it can burn! But the black permanent sheet should work. I find the silicon cake form's good, I also have a silicon rectangle form with a lid, that is actualy for the microwave or normal oven that would work, and is realy easy to clean.
