    One of the real hallmarks of homeschooling is that the children are comfortable with people any age, from babies to very seniors. Non-homeschoolers always worry about "socialization," but the opposite is true. "Regular schoolers" tend to be peer dependent, homeschoolers aren't. Enjoying your vlogs!

      Great observation! Now that you mention it, I can see that in my children. It’s neat to see how each of them are so capable in many different settings. 😊

      My youngest was homeschooled and this is so true, she actually became more socially confident once I pulled her from school in grade 4. It was wonderful to see her blossom that way

      Isn’t it amazing to watch them bloom? Because they aren’t restrained by societal and educational confines in traditional school, the kids are so free to develop into who they really are! It’s beautiful! 💙

    I think you answered one of my questions, so I am privileged for that 😀 It’s good to see you two again. Don’t let the negativity get to you. Some people just have to criticize.
    I think it’s great that you’re doing this Q&A. Talking through your thoughts out loud is really worthwhile. You will both get to know yourselves even better than you already do, and that’s a great benefit to you even if there were no audience.

      I appreciate your kindness and support. The negative and miserable people are far more prevalent here on social media than they are on trail. Thank God for that! I see their hurtful comments as SOS signals needing prayer, so it provides me with more reminders to pray for them. 😊
      And yes! I agree. Talking things out has been a great process for both Little Bear and I. I had to edit the video down quite a bit because it was getting too long. 😂

    Awesome video, guys. Great answers! Thank you for posting this. You know, you two are naturals at vlogging, and people love watching you both. We live near the AT and hike it often. Many people from Florida retire here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. They talk about all the thinks to do and places to see in Florida. A vlogging thought? May God continue to keep and bless you both.

    I came off the trail around the 700 miles because of foot pain that wasn't going away. I let over a month pass and decided to join some other ladies in Massachusetts around the 1500 mile. This was not good for me, because I had lost a lot of endurance in my body and couldn't stay up with the other lady going up the mountain. After 6 miles I made the decision to not push forward. I couldn't hold the other lady back. And I didn't want to hike alone, because of loneliness. On this trip, I found out that y'all got off and I was in shock because I knew y'all were good at it. But at the same time you touched me with knowing it's ok not to finish…be thankful for the journey that was had.
    God bless you both!!!!

      @wildflowersadventures  Před 8 dny +1

      Hey Praiser! Congrats on over 700 miles! I’m so sorry you had terrible foot pain. It can be a painful walk for sure! I’m so grateful for the journey Little Bear and I had. And that we did so well, physically, mentally and emotionally. It was truly blessed and we felt God’s presence, His protection and provision, in every single step. I’m also glad we have no regrets. We hiked our own hike from the first step to the last, and in the end, we chose family over continuing our adventure. There will be a better season to be gone for 6+ months. Perhaps we will go back to our original plan and attempt another thru hike when my husband and I both retire.
      For now, please rest in the joy of your journey. You walked a long way and no doubt had priceless and indescribable moments! Unfortunately, I believe many people put way too much emphasis on completing a thru hike that they negate the hundreds of miles and countless memories within those miles completed. I don’t believe it should be focused on the end goal, but rather the phenomenal journey itself. It’s just a walk in the woods, but oh what an amazing experience it is!
      God bless you and may peace be with you. 💙🙏🏼

      There was so much, constantly, to learn whilst on trail. It’s hard to even put it into words. One more comment, if you don’t mind - I completely agree with your observation on how mean and inconsiderate some commenters can be. It puzzles me as to what pleasure they get out of making unhelpful comments. In my opinion, you handled them extremely well.

      Regarding mean people: I don’t mind criticism, or even unsolicited advice, lol. I have thick skin and don’t get offended easily. But, some of the comments were simply meant to be hurtful and that is quite odd to me. It was such a very small amount of people, but the ones lashing out reminded me to pray for those who are hurting.

I'd love to see Little Bear grow up and return to the trail. Look forward to seeing Mama and Poppa Bear hike when they retire. I'm in it for the long haul. I would love to see you and maybe your whole family visit St Simon's Island in GA. It's probably the most special place I've ever been. Great beaches. Neat little town. Of course, it's been a long time since I was there, but hopefully hasn't changed much. I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to return. Just can't travel anymore. Ya'll take care. Stay safe. It was so great to reconnect with you both! When you answered what were some of your favorite things that happened on the trail my mind instantly went to when Little Bear was some distance from you on a section with no trees just open fields and I believe Momma Bear you yelled Little Bear and Little Bear yelled back either, Hey Mom or Momma Bear! It was such a beautiful moment between a mother and her child ❤️🙏. As for something to do for a hiking trip how about hiking all the highest points of the Eastern States from Florida 🤣 to Maine’s Katahdin. Love you both Little and Momma Bear and let’s not forget, Miss Elle! I was so glad to see ‘both’ of them 🐱🐈‍⬛. Love and light to both🐱🧸🐻🏔️🥾❤️🙏

The benefit is the reward is all along the trail seeing the views and the wildflowers in the alpine meadows as you have no trees blocking your views for a lot of the way. @@wildflowersadventures They aren’t lying when they say Texas is like a whole other country! I think the first thing to do is pick an area to go to- East Texas is piney woods with lots of humidity, ya got big cities like Houston and tons of small towns with some really interesting points of interest, Central Texas is Hill Country and you have cites like Austin and San Antonio with tons of historical and educational things to see and do, West Texas is dry and desert like in some areas, ya got Big Bend National Park over that way which is definitely worth seeing IMO. The panhandle is flat but still has great stuff to see and do (look up Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo) Way down south is known as the valley with lots of good eats and beautiful scenery. I’m in North central Texas in the DFW area. My area has all the typical things folks think of when they think Texas- Dallas (old folks think of Southfork with JR and Sue Ellen, young ones think of Beyoncé) Fort Worth has the Stockyards and rodeo. There’s fantastic hiking all over the state as well. If y’all pick an area you want to focus a visit on, I’d be happy to offer suggestions on things to see and do there! 🤠

    You're right about there being no way to really prepare for backpacking in the mountains except by backpacking in the mountains. Quite a conundrum for those who live in the flat lands! I grew up in Miami, and the only thing I found down there that really helped was walking in loose sand. That can be pretty rigorous, though not particularly fun. The second-best choice in Florida might be the stairs at Devil's Millhopper State Geological Park in Gainesville. Sort of a mini-AT approach trail climb. Last, but not least, Little Bear might love reading Theodore Pratt's "The Barefoot Mailman," a novel set on the coast around 1900. Really a fun read (for those who love reading). Thank you for sharing your journey. To the viewer that asked if any trail in FL help prepare for longer trails... While I agree that if you want to prepare for hiking in the mountains, to go to the mountains, I think there are plenty of trails in FL that will help prepare for longer trails. Sure there is no elevation and the weather is mostly hot with a lot of underwater trail sections. But the Florida Trail offers a lot for multi day hiking and to prepare for other trails. Gear shakedowns and getting familiarized with over night backpacking and the every day grind of multi day hiking, resupplying, and other things. You can't prepare for elevation hiking in mountains but you can definitely hike plenty in Florida to prepare.

      As far as preparing someone to do a longer hike in general, ie, learn how to backpack, I agree with you. The trails here will help to learn the skills of multi day backpacking trips. I guess I should’ve clarified what exact preparation the viewer was referring to. But I still don’t think they will prepare you for what it’s like hiking on the AT. That’s a whole new experience. What prepared us both was our section hikes in GA and thru hike of the Foothills trail. I never knew what it was like to gain and lose so much elevation in just one day. I learned quickly though. 😂

    This past Sunday (7/7) I was driving my new Colorado zr2 truck up thw logging road towards rich mountain fire tower located above hit springs. A big about 200 lb bear came rushing out of the mountain a mere 12 feet infrint of my truck. That bear was running fast infront of my truck foe about 30 yards before it went down the hillside to the right of the logging road. That bear had to be easily running over 25 to 30 mph.

      Hiking the trail is a education in and of itself for historicsl facts ,geography and biology hikingvrach day through different regions along the trail. Just look at the different creatures you all encounters along the trails. You cannot get that type of hands on experiences sitting in a school classroom.

    What is the most important thing that you learned about yourself (both) & have you two grown even closer than before the AT?

    • @wildflowersadventures
      @wildflowersadventures  Před 22 dny +3

      We were very close before our time on the AT, and it doesn’t feel like much has changed, but I do get a sense that we both trust each other on a different level now. We got to see each other struggle and fight through tough days and come out even stronger in the end!
      Not sure what I’d say is the most important thing I learned about myself. I think it was that a number of things I already knew were reaffirmed.
      Little Bear mentions in the video that she learned that if she sets her mind to do something, she can and will. And how strong she is and will continue to get. 😊

    So missing family would be hard enough, but for me (and I wonder how you felt) missing my church family, and being apart from them every Sunday would be sooooo difficult as well. Thoughts? You were a delight to watch. You accomplished something that the majority of us watching could never do for various reasons. We lived our hiking dreams thru you both! God blessings to you both and your family. God is good…all the time!!
    P.S. Right back at ya Little Bear! I’m a proud Christian too!! 😉

      I can understand missing church family, too. For us, the new friends we made on trail made up for that deficit….but no one or nothing else we experienced could take the place of home and family.
      It’s funny. I started off thinking 6 months isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things, but when you’re out there, it’s much longer than I thought. And ultimately, being away from family for that long just wasn’t worth it to us. After God, family is everything to us. And life is so much better experiencing it together as much as we can. The season of us all being together before the kids leave the next is quickly fading. The days are long, but the years are short.
      God bless you! 💙☀️🙏🏼✨
