How to Install Butt Joints On Hardie Plank Siding Or How to Flash Joints in James Hardie Siding is easy. Install two pieces of cement siding against each other called butt joints. I am using aluminum flashing between the joints which flashes the water from the siding.

Aluminum chemically reacts with hardie cement boards a vinyl or galvanized sheeting would be better

are the painters supposed to caulk the bottom of each board? if the paint on the siding is going to be white the crack is going to be very noticeable.

No . You should not caulk the bottom of the board. You suppose to caulk only the gap between the boards

All your nails are blasted right through the face of the board,maybe have your guys brush up on nailing practice and placement,set your compressor a little lower or set tip on your gun for depth

These were nailed too close to the top and edge.
For anyone who wants to use the manufacturer’s recommended nail should be between 3/4-1” from top and 3/8 from edge.
