  • This is an overview of the Atlas 618 lathe. This is identical to the Craftsman 101 lathe with the only difference being the branding. Here we see the lathe in operation and have a look at many of the useful accessories.

Thanks for sharing. I have 3 of these lathes. One is identical to the one that you showed except that it is an Atlas Branded. I also have a second one of that style for parts only and the third is an Atlas/Clausing which is a later model. Mine was built in 1979. I plan to do a complete restoration on it, even though it is in very good condition.

Thanks for your comment, R. Steven! There is a lot to be said for these wonderful machines. They really don't make 'em like this anymore!

They show up on Craigslist frequently. And the accessories are plentiful on Ebay though they are expensive!

Lock down the carriage when trying to mill - & tighten up your gibs ! It's getting rare these days to find complete machines that also have complete tooling / accessories !

Wow that little endmill had a huge amount of runout but still a cool machine if the spindle has a morse taper headstock spinde buy morse taper collets or an morse taper er collet holder for milling more rigid and more accurate run out wise

How about locking down the carriage , & tightening up the gibs ? I saw that he was trying to hold the traverse feed while running in the cross slide ; that's asking for disaster !
