And most people in the audience are completely unaware they're in the presence of the greatest guitarist on the planet
Did you read their minds? Anyway, if they are unaware of it, perhaps that is because at the time, Holdsworth was still alive, so it wasn't true.
I was fully aware.
Now the Goat's Tosin so 🤷♂️
Please tell.me you're talking about Johnny
@delosombres he said 'guitar player', not songwriter, chess player or gymnast
If Hans Fucking Zimmer says you are as good as it can get- then there's not much higher compliment you can expect.
Guthrie Govan. Technically the best electric guitar player on the planet. There is nothing he can't do.... And he is a phenomenally nice guy too.
And they say Slash is best guitar player. world is filled with stupid people!! 😑
+Swapnil Thakur the world is full of non guitarists who think they can give an opinion on guitaring.
+Benji's Boxing Channel The irony here being that if you were to ask any of these guitarists what they thought of another, they'd have nothing but praise for each other and the music they've made instead of going on about who's best.
+Benjamin Stedman yes I'm sure they would in a public forum because that is proffedionalism. what they really think of each other who knows. maybe they don't get on at all but have to work with each other. which is something that happens in work places across the world. but that's them and this is us. it's like saying comic book fans shouldn't discuss who is better, superman or batman. people do it because it's fun and sparks good discussion.
Ummm..he is beyond spectacular, but have you guys heard of an old grandpa called Alan Holdsworth ? He can play a few nice chords too... :D
I went to a Hans Zimmer concert completely unaware that they had a "guest" guitarist with them. In one of the opening songs during a mindblowing guitar solo there was background lighting on the stage so I could only see the silhouette of a guitarist with massive hair. I realized it was Guthrie. The awesomeness of the show went from 110% to 220% real fast.
Hahaha wow! Thanks for sharing, as a massive fan of Guthrie I can only imagine that awesome feeling 😂
Makes my day to see Guthrie doing well!
Guthrie and Hitch. We'd be friends IRL.
Well, I hope we will some day.
Hard to imagine how a talent like Guthrie's couldn't do well. He's the best player in the world, and we all know it!
I literally thought that exact comment. Any fan of both Guthrie and Hitch is a kindred spirit!
He truly deserves it.
Hans: He is such a pleasure to be with
Guthrie: Awwwww
Loved that part
Nawwwww
Guthrie, a very humble guy he is.
Guthrie was so uncomfortably humbled, he didn't even know how to feel. lol. Amazing to see someone such a Master loved by another Master that he is borderline bashful. I love it. At 3:48.
Guthrie's solo album Erotic Cakes is still one of the greatest albums ever made. Such a shame that most of the people haven't even heard of it.
I'm just lucky I have a signed copy of that treasure.
Haha, "Eric" was the song I played for music option in the baccalaureate ^^
Because most of the people believe that Beyonce, Shakira, Psy, and any other pop-shit... are "gods of music". They have no clue what Music is.
Good for us, we are the part of world which knows some of the basics of music. The other part believes there's just 4/4 rhythm and consider themselves as "good critics"...
Anyway...
Long live Guthrie!
I forgot my copy when I met him so I don't have a signed copy but I am fortunate to have seen him play a few from that album live in a recording studio from 2ft away, he is absolutely phenomenal.
Lucky you, man!!
Would you like to sell it?
"I brought my 8 string so I can be extra grimy and disgusting"
Guthrie Givan djents confirmed. Knew it.
We have known he djents for a while, he did the solo for Periphery's "Have a Blast". I didn't know he had an 8 string though.
Yeah, a strandberg!
Lol
with tempered frets, all the nasty nasty stuff
tosin abasi is shaking
I really don't believe in a 'best' when it comes to music. But really... Guthrie is the best when it comes to guitar
I share Hans Zimmer's opinion. In fact, Guthrie Govan often surprises me in a "I didn't think one could be *that* good" kind of way.
I always exaggerated when I said "he makes the guitar cry" about anybody else... Then I heard Guthrie's solo in Drive Home... _that_ guitar is wailing like a mother that's lost a child. It's chilling just to play it in my head while I type this.
Guthrie and Hans Zimmer, 2 of my inspirations!
I never thought I see a video of Guthrie playing a 8 string and Johnny marr in the same video.
Thank you hans zimmer to show to the world how much Guthrie is amazing!
Was pleasantly surprised to see Mike Einziger. Didn't expect the guitarist from an Alt. rock band (incubus) to be playing in an orchestra
so happy for Guthrie! he surely deserve all of this.
hans has great taste. Pretty much echo what he says...saw Guthrie last summer with the aristocrats, nothing else to say that hasn't been said. In a class of his own, as a person and a player.
Guthrie is a class act.
By far the best guitarist ever pound for pound. Can play anything anywhere at any time in any sort of group.. From jazz to folk, pop, metal. Damn..
Guthrie is indeed an amazing player, but wha about Johnny Marr and Mike Einziger? They're both great too!
+Jay - JB i'm sure if he felt that way about them he would have said something.
They are good. Guthrie is exceptional.
they're solid rockers, but Guthrie is on another whole level. Or ten other levels. Or a hundred
I sincerely hope you are not actually comparing these two to Guthrie…
Guthrie Govan is the kind of man that makes the world a bit better. And one of the best guitarists in the world, if not the best.
Its so warm watching Guthrie smiling 😊
Guthrie Govan, the reason why I went to see this show in Glasgow last week. And I wasn't disappointed. It was epic and Guthrie fitted like a glove in there. Nothing that he can't do. And also, he's a lovely humble guy.
My favorite guitarist worked with my favorite modern day composer?! Well I'll be damned wow! you guys made my day I swear.
It's a shame this has little views. Should have millions this guy is a legend
Mike Einziger is one of the last guitarists I would expect to be working with Hans Zimmer for his live shows. Super cool to see him in this!
I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Guthrie. He's a remarkable human being. Such a good guy and an amazing musician.
If you get love from Hans Zimmer you have truly made it
Saw the show on the very first night of the tour, absolutely one of the best live music experiences I have ever witnessed! Completely spellbinding stuff, it truly felt like you were watching and listening to something special. Utterly immense. I take my hat off to you, Mr Zimmer.
Unreal collection of guitarists.
zimmer marr govan - what a combo!!!!
Wish I could have been at that, not only Guthrie, Hans, plus Marr! Hell yeah! Sounds odd, but if I’d known I’d be at that.
4:05 Epic. All those killers onstage together. How much talent. 🔥🔥🔥 and the score just tops it off.
that's the thing....Guthrie probably is the best in the world. he's just breathtaking how good he is. how musical and technical he can be at the same time. i mean ... drive home may be the single most emotionally emersive solo ever recorded and he'd have no problems covering any Jason Becker, Yngwie Malmsteen, or Micheal Batio stuff. need a replacement for greg howe? call guthrie. Most guys who were that good would .. and would have an ego a mile wide. Guthrie is confident but thats it. It's astounding really.
I agree, in the sense that Guthrie is probably the best all round electric guitar player who has ever lived - from a technical point of view. But I'm sure he'd be the first to admit, without those players, he wouldn't be the Guthrie we know.
What is truly remarkable is how Jason Becker used sweep picking in the late 80's for Serrana while the technique (in it's infamous form) was still in its relative infancy, or how Yngwie bought the neo-classical style to the guitar mainstream a few years after the whole punk thing.
Jazz guitarists were sweeping back in the 50's man and it was being introduced into rock music in the 70's. Sweep picking is sweep picking - there is no "infamous" form. I think the term you're looking for is metal wankery. ;)
damm Johnny Marr too
So happy for Guthrie!
Johnny marr love him
So cool!
So awesome to see Guthrie Govan picked up by a legendary composer in this sort of setting. Guthrie is such a verstatile player
About time this happened 😊
‘This man (Guthrie Govan) is about as good as you can get’ - Hans Zimmer
rock n roll. Dublin next Thursday I will be there :-)
HZ: This man is about as good as you can get, and he is such a pleasure to be with..
GG: oouuh
Brings there's in my eyes. The amount of respect is huge from both sides.
I love seeing Guthrie's out-of-this-world-talent being recognized by other renowned artists.
Hanz is doing a solid for himself and us. 👏🏼 👏🏼 I wish Guthrie continued success 🙌🏼
Guthrie Govan is a master of improv play.
Just saw the concert yesterday in Vienna. Super impressive stuff.
+Pidao So jealous. I need him stateside.
3:48 look at Guthrie's face.
Guthrie is the greatest. Massive respect for him and just the way he approaches music. Very nice guy, too. So happy to see him doing well.
This two persons might be the best musicians in history
The point with music and creativity is that we truly expose the best of our selves as a species. Since being a composer my self, I need to tell you this my fellow human beings...
Music is not a competition. Is a contribution to our pneumatic living organism called, Civilization.
He come to dethrone legends... this guy is not only the best guitar player alive... Is the greatest guitar player ever.
I heard that a wormhole formed after hans and guthrie hugged. So glad they ok!
Everyone here on about Guthrie but they be forgetting how Johnny Marr (The Smiths) is amazing as well
they're all amazing! it's just that Guthrie is on another level.
Hans... DVD//Blu-ray release, maybe? Or a tour on the other side of the world?
"you´r being to kind" "no i´m not, i´m being realistic" -germans man, they will tell you straight up
I'm just wondering if there will a BluRay of the concert when the tour is over :D
Makes me so happy that Guthrie is finally where he is supposed to be!!
aww errybody loves Guthrie
3:48- oh god, oh god, pressure, praise, arrghghhhh!
At least that's what I'm getting from his expression, lol. About as good as you can get, sounds right to me!
Guthrie is such a sweet sweet guy, I apreciate his attitude and he is an example for me besides of course, his masterful guitar playing.
1:39 Dat guitar curvess!!
3:55 Ann Marie Calhoun, formerly played with Steve Vai along with Alex DePue, cool!
where can we hear him play that 8 string? I cant find it!
Guthrie is a phenomenal musician composer. I saw him not move out of second gear playing with vai and satriani.. he is without any argument the best all round player. and he gets better. such a nice person too
Does anybody know who's pedalboard that is at the beginning of the video? Is it Hans'?
2:30 He brought his 8string? Damn!
What is the song at 3:00?
Ann Marie calhoun at 3:53!!!😘😘😍😘😍😍
What's the name of the theme at 3:00? :)
holy f*cking shizz!!! is it for real or I'm in heaven ?
Strandberg 8 with Evertune fret treatment?
Guthrie is the absolute goat of this generation and maybe of all time. There's no one like him.
Wait, did Guthrie say "8-string"??? :-O When did that happen?
Marco Minneman lent him a Strandberg last year I believe & he decided to get one after playing around with it! Probably helps that he hung out with Ola Strandberg at G4 last summer too, I sat at the dinner a couple times with both of them :D
I distinctly remember Guthrie making a snide remark about "those guys with too many strings on their guitars" in a clinic I was fortunate enough to attend a year ago or so. Hm... :)
haha, i'm sure he was joking around. he's not the type to shy away from more possibility or challenge :). I hope he writes with one a bit for whatever he releases next, it'd be really interesting hearing his take on the extra range; i'm sure it'd be markedly different from the current 8string champs.
What is being played at 2:47?
Hans Zimmer Live on Tour : 3M5 Guitars Echo In Eternity (feat. GUTHRIE GOVAN)
Thats like Spielberg saying, "you're an amazing filmmaker"....
3:00 I can play that part...
I got an Email from Hanz Zimmer too! Turned out to be a 14-year-old boy :(
2:33 name of that piece please!!!!!!!!
it's from one of the Nolan Batman movies, can't remember which one
Ron thal can play anything Guthrie can play , there both awesome 👍
There simply is no clear separation between Guthrie Govan and music. It's a continuous spectrum.
What is the song at the end?
+UKFeneley The Dark Knight
+Marco Schneider thanks
+UKFeneley It's from TDKR - Imagine The Fire
guthrie govan WOW
johnny marr ow
fancy following gg
3:00 to 3:09, which song is this? I wanna to learn these chords so badly, HELP
The Dream Is Collapsing, from Inception. Incredible track.
3:58 Hans: "Cut the shit Gooth and take this huge ass compliment!"
At 2:22, Guthrie says ''furious 16th note and...'', what does he say after that ?
Vkiller36 when there's a 16th note ostinato (repeating theme/melody) played on the cello, he plays the same thing in 'heavy metal mode' on guitar.
Thank you!
Vkiller36 you're welcome!
Hans is right, Guthrie is one of the nicest people to be in the company of.
3:43 when 2 virtuos prodigies get together
Was that Ann Marie Calhoun? 03:53
must be, yes :)
When Guthrie said he brought his 8 string 😳😳😳😳. Look out guitar community.
3:47 Guthrie's reaction
"I brought my 8 string so I can be extra grimy and disgusting"
djent guys: oh no!
And now Guthrie's playing in some of the biggest movies in the world... Well deserved.
What's that ?
Care to share?
He played on The Lion King, and Dark Phoenix, as part of Hans Zimmer’s band.
Said it before, but less jokingly this time, that I hope this doesn't mean we'll see less of Guthrie with Steven Wilson because of this :/
+Bryan8329 I think we'll see less of Guthrie with Steven Wilson for other reasons. GG and Marco couldn't stay on for the whole of H.C.E. tour because of their Aristocrats tour which clashed with the former one big time. SW seems to be very happy with his replacements and actually said that this band may be his best band yet.
+Peter Malik Yeah. Daventry Kilmington and Craig Blundell aren't bad replacements. Guthrie and Marco are astonishingly good, though
+Peter Malik Dave not Daventry
For his next record, it's looking like Steven is playing most of the lead guitar himself. Not positive if Dave Kilminster is on it at all, especially since he's likely been working on Roger Waters' next album and preparing for the tour. Steven is no slouch on lead himself, but has passed it off to people like Guthrie and Dave on the last couple albums and tours.
I think SW's band now is more flexible, which it should be since it's his band. He said somewhere the only people he really cannot work without now are Nick Beggs and Adam Holzman, so that's probably going to be the core of his group from here on out, with people coming in and out.
Bryan8329 Good reply. We'll see how his new album sounds. It's SW so should be good.
Behind his eys, Guthrie was crying i think...He was very happy.
No disrespect to Johnny Marr, but Guthrie Govan is a much more well-rounded and technically advanced player and they put "feat. Johnny Marr" in the title? :(
playing all the chords arpeggios with pick(a lot of string skipping), including many basslines in it leaving all the string and notes needed to ring at the same time , tell me one guitar player who have this uniqueness to play, tell me , i wasn´t find one.
pd:i know all the shreds guys, my favorite is paul gilbert .
I Feel the same bro ..
it's okay, you can't mistake anyone else for that mane in the thumbnail lol
guthrie still is the most versatile musical guitar player,
2:46 and 2:48 ! What was that anyway🤦♂️
