There is a quality of desperation with Diana's version. If you take the words "can't help falling in love", it means there is no choice, it's out of control. That is what Diana did with her version. She goes high because she is crying, she is losing herself. I think it was an excellent decision by Diana. I agree with you that Diana doesn't need to be doing game shows. I think that she had reasons why she chose to participate, but we might not find out those reasons until after the show ends in 8 weeks.
She is a student, a teenager. She doesn't have Dimash's means or support from the powers that be. Diana said she joined the show to gain experience and make new acquaintances. Makes sense. Also, the show organizers know she is an audience magnet - who knows which inroads that she makes will eventually pay off.

Согласно с Вами. Очень люблю слушать Димаша. Шикарный исполнитель. Но вот слушала как он пел в 16 лет( ранние года не нашла) и слушала ДИАНУ в 13 ( йодель) не говоря уже потом на ТЫ СУПЕР. I can answer your question: "Why is she there at the competition?" This, in my opinion, is a very reasonable compromise between the need for funds and the need to give up the right to decide. First I would like to say your reactions are always very insightful and your commentary is measured, thoughtful and truthful. I can see from your reaction and your face that you weren't really sure how to feel about this song. The arrangement was quite different from the original and its ok to feel maybe it was a little strange. That being said she sang it amazingly! The way she powered through in the end was incredible and moving. At her age the way she performs each and every song and pours her soul into it never ceases to amaze.
I'm with you, when she opens up in that lower range and lets that power come through that's when she takes you to another place and that's where the magic happens. I know she's been working on her upper range but I hope she never forgets that her lower tones are what has made millions of people fall in love with her. She never needs to say "Hey look what else I can do!" Everything else is a compliment to that powerful three dimensional, mesmerizing, entrancing lower range that envelopes you and conjures memories of good times and even painful times when you hear it. She certainly can turn you into a ball of emotions. Love her!
Quick note she did say that she agreed to be on this show to experiment with different types of music and in the end make new contacts/friends. Not her exact words but something to that effect.
Hi Rocky. Diana is still in school. This is a work in progress, thrust into different genres, like, throwing you into the water so you can learn to swim. She already has experience with most genres, but this is her introduction to the big leagues, Russian show business. Diana's work on her falsetto is paying off big time. Greetings from Scotland! Hi Orsi, I will try to explain why I believe Diana is doing this contest/show. Diana has no management team, except for herself, family and some good friends. She has no monetary backing other than her concert revenue and that was seriously curtailed due to the pandemic. If I were in that situation and NTV offered me a few months work on TV for whatever money, I would have jumped at the chance! You're right, and all her fans also know, as does Diana herself - she does not need to be in competition because she is already World Class. However, during the filming of the 9 episodes she has made some good friends, made some good contacts in the business and had the chance to experiment vocally in areas she would not normally go. So it's ALL good and that experience has already been put to good use. Diana is a very intelligent, resourceful young girl and she will get to where she needs to be by using her intelligence to the best effect. The song choice? She was given this song to perform in whichever way she could get the most impact - I'd say she achieved that. ALL contestants get a different category each week and they have to do the best they can. Ah, the voice of reason.People tend to forget, that Diana might have her own plans, for her own life and career. Why can't people accept, when Diana, a couple of years ago, said that she's determined to complete school and go to arts-school. I know,in our western world of the fast buck, education isn't worth more than a penny, when you wanna get a STAR. Other people can get that somewhat later, but with a fallback option. I don't understand the bashing of Russian show business either. It was in the sacred USA, where a professional manager-father put his daughter in a mental asylum, just letting her out for concerts as his cash cow, wasn't it?

Once again thank you for your sincerity. The show itself is goofy as was its precursor, Mask show, where participants are nagging at each other making practical jokes. Among all those people Diana is a pure and innocent virgin. NTV-channel decided to boost their one-penny show with virtual reality (VR) and Diana. Diana said that she needed experience and that she understands everything. As far as I understand she haven't yet receved proposals from enterpreneurs and is concentrated on her studies at the University. Ple treat her presence there as her experimentation, as she is free to do that, isn't she. After all, she's only 18. And I was doing just that in my life))) She has got an entire life ahead of her...

This was really the first time she really tapped into her falsetto which was a nice surprise.. we never really heard it before.. yes her low range is Diana.. Sorry you didn't like this version.. its a cover of a cover called Dark Version - Cant help falling in Love - By Tommie featuring Brooke. I don't think Diana has other options right now other than TV shows. No Record Labels have picked her up which blows my mind.... If she was in USA she would be signed already. she had to Crowdfund to support her own album. Remember she just turned 18.. she's still very young... Dimash is 10 years older than Diana.. so I don't think that is a fair comparison. Give Diana 10 years and then compare or compare Dimash when he was 18..

Diana is coming off her first year of Performing Arts School and is still a teenager living at home...so perhaps some perspective is needed. This is a Television show that has 9 weeks of singing a song in a different genre each week and your peers rank the singers each week, no judges. Seems you are taking something light and fun and making it into some serious competition.

👉 Yes, you are absolutely correct. Diana actually doesn't really need such shows ... Actually! But Diana is still studying and appears almost only on small stages. Her mother is still her manager ... but Diana also needs a sponsor who brings her to the big stages, makes sure that she can give her own concerts (like Dimash) without bending her and exploiting her.
Diana definitely belongs on the big stages of the world so that many people can hear her wonderful voice. Your current chance is this show to reach a lot of people. It remains to be seen whether she will achieve her goal in this way. The rules of competition are very, very strange and seem to only bring out the bad in people.🌼🇩🇪

Yaaay Diana Ankudinova (now 18) finally got a new chance to shine in professional environment after 3 years.
The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (7 episodes left), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform,
and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform.
They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc.
So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves.
(She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally)(72 total)
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",

Диана Анкудинова сама расставила свои приоритеты. Она сначала хочет получить образование, а участия в шоу и музыкальных программах - это для опыта, новых знакомств, оттачивания мастерства. Все у нее будет хорошо.
Зря. Ей не нужно образование (что это за совковое мышление, что всегда и везде нужно образование?!), она может расти и развиваться строя карьеру, она УЖЕ на слуху, ее УЖЕ знают и боготворят. Но это шоу-бизнес! Потратив время на эти несерьезные песенные конкурсы для бабушек, она рискует забыться, ее может заменить другая восходящая звезда, которая не побоится ухватиться за шанс. Я считаю, что реактор права, Диане нечего делать ни на этом шоу, ни на НТВ, она должна идти в мир и искать продюссера, который выведет ее на новый уровень.

Это шоу профессиональных певцов, которые получают случайные задания и потом ставят оценки друг другу. Они не знают что им выпадет. Поэтому выбор песен и жанров кажется иногда странным, но в то же время интересным. Диана самая молодая участница, ей только 18 лет и она учится в специальном музыкальном университете для артистов, музыкантов, продюсеров и т.д. Следующая песня Дианы весёлая и танцевальная, а потом будет русская народная песня.
Hi, As to the show itself, as far as I know, Diana is quite happy to participate, and this is a good advertisement for her. As to using her head voice - it's up to Diana. Performing various things needs versatility, to my mind. If you crush the listeners with your strongest chest all the time, it may become annoying after all. That's my opinion, of course. I think, you're absolutely right, Deeana and Dimash are two sides of music.
The change of major to minor tends to have that effect on many songs. A lot of dissonance thanks to the piano work as well. It's less of a love song and more of a descent of obsession into madness. The belting at the end was that breaking point. It's a very Diana-esque transformation. This song was a way to show off all the work she has put into her head voice and her new belt. She became really insecure in head voice when her voice first changed. Instead of relying on the yodel technique she wanted to get her full head voice back.
This isn't your typical competition. It's not for people who aren't already established. They took winners of other competitions. It's rather lighthearted and nobody is really fighting for an opportunity. There are 9 singers, who are also judges, with a 10th guest judge each day. At the end of each day each singer rates everyone's performance (relative to the others, excepting themself). From 9 points to 2 points. You can't give out the same points to more than one singer so someone will always get a 9 and someone will always get a 2. The one with the most points on the day does an encore performance to end the episode. I'm not sure if they were paid just to participate in it or not, but I'm guessing they were. They are given 9 categories to sing from, in what seems to be an attempt to get them to perform outside their usual niche/genre. This performance by Diana was for the Grammy category.

Diana is studying now, she is a student. Her main priority is her studies, and these different vocal competitions are just like practice for her. Dimash is older than Diana. In a few years Diana too will take her career seriously. But today she spends more time on her studies. When Dimash was her age, he wasn't seen at all.
A thoughtful analysis thank you - the show format is where performers judge each other - they are set parameters such as 'a popular song' or 'a song from a cartoon' etc - there are egos and small minds within the group and although it seems that Diana is by far the youngest, nevertheless her spiritual drive and power seems so much more mature than the other participants - she already has a huge following worldwide due to her god-given talent and will survive this awful show I am sure

Отличные комментарии, справедливые вопросы. Действительно, зачем она на этом шоу? Она давно уже переросла подобный формат, что бы ни говорили её поклонники про полезный опыт такого рода конкурсов. И первым же номером всем это доказала. Но шоу должно продолжаться... Мы, живущие в России, прекрасно понимаем, зачем она в этом участвует, и рады хоть такой возможности опять посмотреть на любимую певицу. Мы понимаем, что серьёзные возможности записать даже просто хороший видеоклип у Дианы отсутствует. Выход альбома задерживается без объяснений, большие концерты невозможны, да и маленькие , похоже, могут скоро прикрыть из-за пандемии. Так что это шоу - единственный реальный шанс для неё сделать в музыке что-то серьёзное , оставить хотя бы две-три песни очень высокого уровня, которыми будут восторгаться во всём мире. Одна уже точно есть, и для всех нас это радость - и за Диану, и за себя. Нам всем нужно что-то новое от Дианы, что заставит нас слушать это сотни раз, задерживая дыхание... И мне жаль только одного - что организаторы шоу, как уже видно, дадут ей сделать максимум три классных номера. Наши надежды, увы, не совпадают с их расчётами...

После "Ты супер!" в течение 3 лет у Дианы не было серьезных проектов, на ТВ ее не приглашали, и она была вынуждена зарабатывать на жизнь редкими (пандемия!) концертами в малых залах, сотрудничая с авторами, так скажем, не высшего ранга. Рост популярности на Ютубе замедлился, залы - даже малые - на гастролях заполнялись не полностью. Надеюсь, "ШоуМаскГоон" даст ей импульс для выхода на новую, более высокую профессиональную орбиту.

As a competition piece it did what she intended fired a first salvo and broke the proverbial glass ceiling. I understand your concerns and yes to many Western ears Russian musical tastes can seem a bit dramatic😉.. but Shirley Bassey seems to have done quite well for all that.😇😂
I wonder after the covid difficulties and having to arrange her own shows if she has taken this offer on to get the domestic media attention and technical stage production she needs/deserves.
Also she is trying to produce her own recordings for release ... I may be wrong but it may be that shes having to finance it through her own efforts in part or wholly 🙄😬 ? She is a notably grounded and determined young lady... but still a familly girl/ teenager from a difficult early background ....but so was Bassey and many other great female artists.
She needs to be able to mix with and get support and inspiration from other artists also get the sort of technical support they do doing shows and festivals outside of Russia.. better still if she found other unique artist mentors among established artist that could guide and encourage her, she would then flourish as an international artist.🤩💖🤞🏻

I am wondering why Igor Krutoy who appears to advise (?) both Diana and Dimash doesn't steer her away from talent competitions and getting perhaps her and Dimash to tour together or get Diana more "set up" professionally. He has a home in New York City and surely has the musical contacts to get the ball rolling for Broadway or otherwise. She is one of the most dynamic singers I have heard.

The ShowMaskGoon was started in 25 September 2021. It is a new TV show on Russian HTB channel, every saturday, where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform, and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. So Diana sits with them when others perform.
She said that creating her own songs requires a lot of money. And looks like she can't find a producer/team. No one wants to take risks and invest money on her because she is not a pop singer, except for these shows.

Diana could have had Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars, a studio, a nice House (not apartment) to live in, Great effects for her concerts etc...
