While I'm not familiar with this particular series, so many amazing book series have been translated into TV or movies that just don't live up to the original. I feel like shows that are in the same universe but not retelling the same story tend to do a lot better, at least in my mind.
Oh CW, lol They did the same thing with The Vampire Diaries. Don't get me wrong I loved the show but they kept a few names from the books and that's just about it lol It's so hard to go back and read the books now actually.

In this, much like anime adaptations like Soul Eater, the show and books were being made at the same time and the show ended up just having to work with concepts due to being ahead of the books. You wanna really feel cheated, read the hobbit and then watch the films. Or watch the one (its a crime to even try to condense an ongoing series into a single movie) The Dark Tower movie and then read even just the first book from the dark tower series.
