Deer Blind Upgrade - Buddy Heater Cubby Installation

- My 5 x 5 hunting box blind was a little crowded with the buddy heater taking up floor space, so I cut a hole in the wall and installed this cubby - a DIY build in which I show you the measurements and the installation process. Now, the heater is not so close to my legs and it's completely out of the way!

If I were to build another cubby box like this, I would make it about 10" taller so that the fan would be tucked into the cubby as well.
Very nice, Brett! With today being the first day of Fall, I am so ready for the cooler weather, getting outdoors more, and eventually into hunting again. Thanks for another good video.
Thank you sir for watching and commenting! Just got on from an evening bowhunt sit here in NW WI. Today was comfortable weather. The maple trees are as bright and colorful as autumn colors can be right now. Had two small bucks walk by also. It's been a great day!
@@UncleBucks That sounds wonderful. Makes me want to move somewhere away from the South. Our high today is 88 in North-central Arkansas. Humidity is high as well, but cooler weather is around the corner - praise the Lord for that!
tip i picked up on the internet, spray your exposed exterior wood with permethrin spray, same stuff you spray your clothes with for ticks. no wasps this year.
Great tip! I actually just received a bottle of it that I plan to use on my blinds next year. Thanks for watching!
Awesome idea. Have a wood stove but might do something similar for my cooler storage
Great idea! At first glance it looks like you might have laying hens up there.😂
LOL, I'm guessing that you raise chickens!
@@UncleBucks nope just a creative imagination 🤔
I did the same thing the off season and installed it about a month ago. Have been refilling and hauling in 1 lb tanks for 5 years. Really looking forward to not doing that. Keep up the good work with the content. Really enjoy your no nonsense, everyday approach to hunting.
Good to hear Mike! I appreciate your comments. Good luck out there!
Awesome idea. Keeps it out of the way
Thanks!!
Thankyou I watched that video. I have the same heater it works pretty good my blind is small it's probably 5x4. I got hurt where I worked and had to start walking with a cane. And I knew it wouldn't be long and I won't be able to walk far in the woods. So I wanted a blind off the ground and made to stay warm in. I live in upstate N.Y. It gets cold here to. I wish I would of made mine bigger.
Good luck out there!
@@UncleBucks Same to you.
Your ideas and talents are so great. Just sayin'! I can sew a quilt but am unable to replace a noisy ceiling fan or drop my closet rod 1/2 inch to get the hangers to go on easily. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😂😂 I guess that's the gifts God gave guys. ❤️❤️❤️. You do a amazing job with stuff.
Awe, shucks. Thank you! Your quilt making talent is no less amazing!! Sometimes, those white metal closet shelf brackets are the cause of that problem. Poor design. Perhaps adding a half inch of shim under the shelf board (just where it rests on the bracket) would help? Viitamin bottle lids would work - better with the hollow side up. Poke a hole in the center of the lid and run the screw up through it. You would need screws a half inch longer than what you already have in there though.
Drywall works great as a heat deflector. It's another cheap item that could be used to protect the wood in the box
Great idea!
Smart idea 👍
Thanks!!
If we had blinds that big on our place, there would be 100 Illegal Aliens living in it. Nice blind though.
Texas? Raccoons or porcupines are about all we have to worry about for squatters here in WI.
@@UncleBucks Our place is 40 miles from the Mexican Border at Del Rio. The Illegal Alien traffic has increased 1000% since the Biden Administration took control. We see everything from Drug Mules, Human Traffickers, and the guy who just wants to cut grass on our game cameras.
No,no,no. Not illegal aliens…..I just watched Binder, the press secretary, tell me that they are migrants and it’s all part of the migration system. You know like birds and Monarch butterflies. Facetious statements aside, I am so sorry our government is not interested in protecting your property and other Constitutional rights. Your trespassing issue is far greater than what most hunters have to deal with. Remember to pray for our country.
I did the same thing, but I decided that since my blind was only 4x4, I would go big. 😋 I cut the whole side out bellow the windows, and bumped 2 sides out. I tried to post a picture, but it won’t let me.
Hopefully someday CZcams will allow pics in the comments. Good luck hunting & thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching!
So... How do you prevent bees from building nests?
Great question!
Why didn’t you angle your roof where water/snow would fall off at the 6 o’clock position instead of your main shooting windows
My Dad built this one, so not sure why he decided to pitch it this way. The main shooting windows are in the front, 12:00 position, above the cubby. If you mean the back (door) side as the 6:00 position, I certainly don't want rain, snow and ice dripping and accumulating on the ladder. That would be the worst side to pitch it downward to.
Spray the outside of the blind with 80 percent used engine oil and 20 percent kerosene preserves the wood and all mice and insects steer clear
How about the deer though? Do they route around it too?
@@UncleBucks smell goes away in 2 weeks I do mine like every 3 years in the early spring
Is this mixture approved by the EPA? 😂
@@samrichmond2940 sure is just send sleepy joe an email he will tell ya
