  • “How much Thai food can you eat for $150? And you can’t eat the same food twice?” This is a wee side project we did when travelling through Thailand this year to give an idea of the real cost of eating in Thailand.
It starts in the northern borders (Chiang Rai) and ends at the most southern (Ko Lipe) and shares most regional foods/staples with longer stints in Chiang Mai (Lanna), Nang Rong, Buriram (Isaan), Bangkok, and some island hopping in the south.
In total we managed to cover around 88 proper food/drink items which average at around 59 baht or $1.70 per meal (so it’s 177 baht or $5.10 for a 3 meal day). Although I’d probably eat 4 ($6.80) and on 4 meals it’s roughly $200 per month etc. etc.
Some #thaifood items are obviously more/less than others, but we did not go out of our way to be cheap, and we always ate what we wanted to eat. We also included 6 Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants, many recognizable destinations, and lots of contrasting scenery along the way.
