Like those really smart kids you went to school with but were probably average students at best? I'm in my 40s now but was that kid. Even working my butt off with various professionals over the years, it's still difficult for me to always show up in the right ways for normal life things despite being very successful in other ways in life. But anyway, it could also be a bunch of undiagnosed things or a bad home life.. but if I were him I'd talk to a Psychiatrist. He really does sound like the epitome of ADHD though. A lot of us have really high ceilings but have additional "gifts" that make it an absolute struggle to maintain operating at 100% everyday. It makes us seem lazy to the average person, but it's more like our brains are wired to be able to be a supercomputer in some very specific ways, but suck at normal life things, have a lot of additional things we are sensitive to, etc.

So he can now do what 7th graders do… His issues are not “just little things!” Going to practice, meetings, and the weight room are the most important things for a player. He has had a chance and totally screwed that up. One thing I have a problem with is his number. A player like him wouldn’t wear number one in his first year on my team. He would have to earn that. He needs to be showing up on time, and that means if he’s on time he’s late! He needs to be in the weight room going HAM, and attending his classes like a good student/athlete. Anything less is not going to earn him the number one.
