Executive Desk Build - Kinetic Folding Door -

- This is my submission to the #Rocklerdeskchallenge. The desk is made white oak; the top being solid 6/4 white oak and the carcasses made of 3/4" white oak ply. The drawer fronts and door are 1/2" white oak ply edge banded and covered with white oak pieces in a mosaic pattern. The right tower showcases a kinetic folding door for little more pizazz.
The top measures in at 66"x25" and the desk is 30" tall.
The entire desk was finished with a coat of Odie's Oil and was buffed out to desired sheen.
A special thanks to Kayla Boss for her assistance in putting the table top together as well as camera work.

You remind me of what CZcams use to be. Amateur creators with brilliant ideas, unrefined but full of adventure and out-of-the-box creativity. Absolutely beautiful and incredible design. Steelworkers don't call it C-channel though, it's just called channel. Odd since we call I-beams, I-beams rather than just beams. Angle is sometimes called angle or angle iron.

Night stands to match my bed, some smaller household items, another gameboy buuld, just got a lathe so will be giving that a spin. Also some other shop furniture stuff, a lathe stand and other storage

Does the dowel rods work better than a biscuit jointer? I have never really used dowel rods. So is there more stability in the rods compared to the biscuit or is it just falling under mainly the creators choice?
Ive never used biscuits to be honest. I know both are supposed to be for alignment, Ive just always felt the dowels would do a better job
Do you think piano hinges cut to length would provide extra sturdiness over those used?
Im sure that could work. The hinges are pretty stable, so Im not worried about them. the Bearings needed fixing, but are all good now
how much sesonal movement do you have on that oak? is your desk 12m deep?

Trust me you dont need all the fancy stuff to do stuff. Theres a million ways to get the job done, fancy equipment creates ease and speed, but dont let that stop you if you dont have them
He's right. 10 years ago, most CZcams woodworkers had basic and limited tools, yet they did better stuff then seen today.
