This was wonderful and it was great to see the period when the Japanese dominated judo. Now the worlds judoka have adopted Japans training methods and intense commitment to all aspects of preparation. I remember my Taiotoshi sensei saying I must do 250,000 repetitions on each side before I would really throw with Taiotoshi. That was commitment. I remember long fast runs before practice and then newaza after randori. It was grueling, it was hell, it was wonderful and exhilarating, we drank beer
I know this comment is old but Japan has and will continue to dominate the sport of judo. Sure other countries are notable competitors but none fully compare.
No, it's Hoffman from united team Germany (before they became east and west Germany). At 8:40 American Jim Bregman stands alongside on the podium, and it 9:40 a glimpse of Giant Dutchman Anton Geesink, and at 10:40 we see smiling Canadian Doug Rogers in background. All legends among legends - great film!
Okano was great. But you should have shown how he lost to Russian Mischenko in Tokyo in 1967. Russian forced him to surrender after a minuta by applying juji gatame.

judokas today have alot to learn from this guy. Judo is about much more than strenght and ego. It's about technique respect and honor.
Even a Legend such as Okano lost a fight,Judo is a complex sport,so many intricacies..........
Not anymore.
Every time I watch this video it makes me want to up my game
Thank you, this is one of the kudos for Judo and Isao Okano's thoughts.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Man. I went through so many hoops and hurdles to get a copy of this video years ago. Here it is on CZcams.
Thank you for sharing this!
WHAT A FANTASTIC JUDOKA!!
simply GREAT!!!!
wow what an inspiration! He never gave up
Wrong. He did gave up when Russian Mishchenko applied juji gatame armlock to him in Tokyo in 1967
A melhor arte marcial
Great.
I would love to learn from these master
these old match seem moreexciting than the modern ones
Song?
A TRUE MASTER. WOULD LOVE TO MEET HIM AND GIVE MY RESPECT.

I speak and understand Japanese, if you can tell me where I can find it, I will gladly translate for everyone.
Isn't that Brian Jacks on the left-hand side from 8:14 onwards ?

I was told that Georges Mehdi lived with him while at Ten Ri University!

somebody please translate this
Back in the days they really train hard
"...if you tell me where I can find it..."
You're watching it!
14:55 reverse seoi nage
You should see Okano losing a match by an armlock to a Russian in Tokyo
Hiromi Tomita Judo. You Tube.

Ttt
Wish it was in English-language.
