The #SL is back!! Welcome to RBR and the car to follow the SLS, #AMG GT and S Class two door cars - is finally ready for us to drive in sunny California… scratch that. Pissing down with rain California. 😭
Last time we covered all of the technical changes that the whole new R232 model brings to the table, versus both the old SL and the previous #MercedesAMG GT roadster.
We discovered that it’s not a Mercedes Benz anymore, the SL now created by AMG making much like the SLS and GT, but taking tech from the new S Class. Pair all that to a return to a 2+2 layout - and it’s a recipe for one of the best AMG ever!
The car also shares its platform somewhat with the next generation AMGGT, so it should give us some great insight into the flagship Cars going forward.
As for performance, the 4.0 bi-turbo from C63 to GT Black Series returns. Here’s in our SL63 is produces 577BHP and a quoted 0-60 of 3.6 seconds thanks to the 4Matic - making its first-ever appearance in SL. The car also has the 9 speed MCT wet clutch, for faster shifts
The SL 63 gets adaptive ride control suspension and rear-axle steering up to 2.5 degrees. The cream on top is the limited-slip differential as standard.
Today we’re gonna see what the car drives like in the wet, aided by the four-wheel-drive system. Of course, the exhaust note (which is USA specification) is going to be of great interest, so I will show you what the new SL sounds like! Of course, I will also do I launch control of the new SL, which you will be very surprised about. I’ll also show you many specifications including the new hyper blue, sun yellow, and much more.
The SL has been trying to achieve a really difficult balance over the years of luxury and racing, trying to pay homage to the 300 SL sand the Pagoda. Our new car returns to the fabric top with a 25kg lighter z-fold roof. But equally, far more in terms of added rigidity, and all-new intelligent mix materials space frame, and even a dynamic plus package with active engine mounts.

It's really nice for an SL but a second gen S-Class Coupe would have most propably been the most beautiful car in the world because the first gen was just that.

That engine should be cherished, so much character and performance. Good thing the AMG CEO said that the V8 will remain for a few more years 👍

I did prefer the older jag f type as I don't like the Mazda light on new one .this Mercedes is quite nice though

@@YounesLayachi haha yeah I guess so. Although you can get the F-Type SVR as a convertible. The point is, the SL is heavier and still puts in a good time despite being driven in the rain. Anyway both lovely cars.
Yeah,it still goes quicker than what amg said.and some motoring journalist like motortrend,car & driver,and redline reviews actually did 3 seconds dead on this car.so we can say that Mercedes has done a very good job for going with the 4matic on this new sl

Wow, Just as a car fan (let alone a Merc fan, which I am - yes I am a BMW driver and fan too) - liking this a lot. Though I feel a bit sad there isn't a non-AMG version, but I guess it's a more narrow market, so might as well go big or go home with the SL. Will be interesting to see how they sell and who the typical buyer is. Once again, sorry about the bad luck down here with the rain.
Like the 2+2, like the interior, as always hate the touch controls but most of all it doesn't have the same kind of wow factor as the old S class Coupe. I feel like they'll have a hard job replacing that car, it was wonderful to drive and just be in.

The active body control is a carry over from R230. It was improved on in the R231. It does provide a much firmer ride to prevents pitch and roll.

I’m a big fan of the AMG line; however, the SL and the S sedan are notorious for mega depreciation! Outside of that, these are very capable, fun, and rewarding automobiles. Thanks for the intro. Cheers/B

It only sounds good because it’s a USA spec car, lower your expectations for the choked EU OPF version.
It’s nice, but at that price point it’s just not SPECIAL enough to get me interested. I’d rather an off-lease low mileage AMG GTR 👀

I like a lot about this car but the soft top is a step backwards from the folding hard top the car has featured for the last couple versions.
Its cars may not be as sharp and focused als Porsches, but AMG does the emotional aspect of daily driving soooo well

I really dislike the look of the soft top. I still feel like the 2009-2012 looked the best.
This and the '18 E63s are the best sounding AMGs I have heard till date.
And check out old w204 c63 also amazing or the old sls, my dream garage is sls amg Coupé + 2022 sl63 convertible that would be awesome
I kind of preferred the retractable hardtop. Seems like they went a bit backwards in that aspect

I drove the previous V8 500 SL (2020) last year. I couldn't put up with the 2 second throttle delay before anything happened. What were MB thinking putting that ridiculous screen in this car. Looks like someone has just plonked a iPad on the centre console...

Till they introduce the SL63 e / ( sadly not named 73) the M8 would eat this alive . Then perhaps later we see an M8 hybrid with 800+ hp also.

Can I be honest here, this is not the best SL.
The 55 SL / 80s SL / 90s SL is way better looking than this.

R129 is just classic, this thing is obviously an incredible machine, but will always have love for the R129 which to me had perfect proportions

Best looking thing they’ve done in a while. Are the exhaust vents fake though. Didn’t see any smoke come out of them when you revved it. If so, such a shame.

Could you go into more detail in comparison between this and the GTC, GTR roadster, and other competitors. It seems this has a better sound than the muted gtr roadster.

Curious. I just don’t feel any joy or fizz looking at this new SL. The graphics, light design, grill shape, etc. seem over-designed at best and slightly gaudy at worst, something that steering wheel symbolizes so well!
But, alas, to each their own.

@2:17 100% Avoid getting into a habit of unscrewing your shaving stick in that manner. With the blade aready in there, you'll cut yourself repeatedly. Hold the two opposing shorter sides of the shaving stick head still, and then unscrew its handle by rotating its handle only. Good luck.
I should have made clear: it doesn’t come with a blade out of the box, so you have to install one! Hence. 😉

Beautiful, but still not keen on th air vent design or the lack of tablet integration into the dash. The bright red seats look awful.
The cold start sounded lovely but EU models with OPF will definitely be much quieter.
Looks too C-Class Cabriolet from the rear-side view when they roof is up, but what a car, interior is smashingly good. If they made a 53 with the inline-6, I’d be all over that!

Would love to see how the SL's exhaust compares to the pre-facelifted C63s.
It looks pretty cool but doesn't look like an SL car. I'm pretty sure there will be a hard top version in the coming years. Also, if I want a super fast car I proably buy something else, SL is a 2 seater S class.
