Hi Pascal, great video talking about Pilot Salaries. I was surprised with how much United Airline Pilots make as opposed to competitors. As for what I would buy given a large salary, my answer would be to invest as much as possible for the future so that if circumstances change, you are financially secure and less stressed. Nothing worse than not having enough money to pay your bills and exist somewhat comfortably. Just found your channel recently and really enjoy your videos.

Hello Pascal! I have visited Frankfurt during June/May. I live in Georgia and took Dlh445 on Eurowings from ATL to FRA. I took a picture in the cockpit, i had a layover in Frankfurt then took Dlh590 on Lufthansa to Nairobi kenya on a vacation. I stayed there for a few weeks then came back to Frankfurt on Dlh591 on Lufthansa. Had another layover in Frankfurt, then hopped on Dlh444 on Eurowings back to Atlanta. Being in Frankfurt was fun. I saw a lot of 747s and A359s but sadly did not get to see the A380.(But I saw a Airfrance A380 take off from Atlanta). I am a 13 year old Avgeek and i want to become a pilot for United Airlines and fly the a350s that united has ordered.

Individual income tax in USA is comprised of Federal + [mostly] State + [sometimes] City (NYC, Philadelphia). States: FL, TX, NV, WA, NH, AK, PR have no state income tax = ZERO, you just pay Federal one. The amount (percentage) in taxes paid all depends on what state you reside (driver license registration). The tax scale is progressive brackets: the higher income, the bigger percentage you get taxed.

I think you may have overestimated take-home pay (post net and deduction) of US pilots (and other workers). US has a slew of local, state and federal taxes. At the 6-digit salary range, at least 1/3 up to 40% or so of your pay goes to taxes. United's bases are in some of the most highest taxed states in the US, and ones with the highest cost of living. Then this leads to people live in non-base cities that require lengthy and often stressful commute, which is adding many hours on top of our flying hours. All of the countries on this list, I'd argue that US also has the highest cost of health care as well. If the pilot is operating a single-income family, it's not like there will be a lot of monies left to buy expensive toys. But it is true that in the current state of things, US pilots make more than doctors and lawyers.

Not necessarily. Some First officers at some of the majors and LCC usually can make 300k plus a year at 8-9th year pay. And captains, depending on the trips can make 500k plus.
Remember it’s not always about block hours but the trip credit hours, duty/trip rigs and other stuff that can really increase the credit per month.
Then you can also include profit sharing and the 16-18 percent contributions to the 401ks at the legacies that makes the contracts really shine

Its surprising to see how well some airlines pay, and then you compare to airlines in Scandinavia who have absolutely terrible pay as well as having some of the highest cost of living.
Starting sallary for a non-typerated pilot at Norwegian is only 41K USD, same goes for SAS. Tax is usually around 40% here, but then again everything in Norway would be more expensive than in Germany, Italy etc. etc. Its almost not enough to make a living and with upwards of 100.000USD in student loans + insurances etc. you're basically at minimal wage. In SAS it takes 10+ years to get captain, and as a first year captain you're still looking at less than 100.000USD a year pre-tax.
My dream is to fly in Norway, simply because it's where I am from and with the airports we have it's the best and most challenging place in Europe to fly by far, but if someone is looking for pay it's probably the last place you want to work in Europe

it would be nice to see where you got the data. Also it kind of sounded like commercials for 10 different airlines. did you have to do it that way so that you could use their stock footage?
Overall pretty fun video but concerning US airlines you can probably make more money at any regional compared to airlines 10.-2.. United didn't even get new pay scales yet. Delta's wide body captain pay for this year is $470 per hour. Also every major adds at least 16% into your 401k retirement fund.
You were kind of imprecise with the definition of flight hours. It seems like most airlines in that list were paid by block hours, in the US though there are trip rigs like 1:1 block, 1:2 duty, 1:3.5 time away from base. So often times you don't actually fly as many hours as you get paid, but less. How does EW discover do it? I'm genuinely curious.

In the US, that 400k/yr will just be 250k a year after tax. Then you pay health insurance, long term disability since it is important for pilots because you could lose your job any time. So it goes down very quick lol. It’s still very good though.

so we have a federal income tax that covers the whole US and it's territories, that's also on a sliding scale, the more you make the more you pay... Then comes the state income taxes, they're also a sliding scale, the more you make the more you pay.... But you can always pick any of the 8 states that don't have any income taxes, I live in one of those states, and love it.....
