  • There is a reason why a Porsche 911 very similar to old Tatras. Those were amongst the first cars to use a rear mounted engine inside a streamlined aerodynamic body developed in a wind tunnel. Mr. Porsche was handed over a task to build a folk's vehicle in 1930's and this video will tell you how it went.

    Can you do a video of when Jawa sued Honda for patent infringement (plagiarism) regarding the semi-automatic clutch on the Honda Cub?? It happened in 1967 and is referred to as "The Case of the Clutch", in motorcycling history.
    Honda put their hands up, apologised and settled out of court. Jawa gave Honda licence to use the semi-automatic clutch in return for royalties on sales of all Honda bikes that used the system.

Also at 2:00, I had never ever seen this "Ur-Tatra", which looks so modern for 1931 (there were still Ford Model T's around). But hey, Tatra and Saab are not the only charismatic automakers around. There are more in Italy (especially), France and England.

      tatrat had much more torque wich made the car runs faster from trajectory..porsche copied the engine and solved thta problem of excessive torque cutting it,,

      One thing is how they look from the outside, but the real shock to see the chassis and the engine. Next shock is to find out you're looking at 1920' product. So confident and quality made piece of technology from a time we thought the cars were clunky fragile boxes. I've been to many technical museums around the world, but the only Tatras left a deep and long lasting impression on me. Booth the cars and trucks are so impressive.

    I have had a few VW’s of Different Models, and When I was around 19, or 20 We had a Karmann Ghia That I preferred to drive instead of my MG midget....! I just turned 69 in March and have a 1971 Karmann Ghia, That I got a couple of years ago...👍 , since learning about tetras, mostly since the Internet has made information so readily available....! I often wondered if it was just coincidence that Ferdinand Porsche decided to make a rear engine air cooled car also....? Now I know the story how Porsche basically poached tetra design, then basically took Tetra design Ideas, and elaborated on it...! Great Video....!!!

      During the war, Tatra 87 killed more nazi officers than died in early days of war. Thus it was banned for german military. The car was too heavy, with weight on the back, and was able to reach 160km/h on dirtroads. Not really great breaks at the time, and thin tires, plus when turning the back continued straight. So driver had to be skilled, to never turn in high speeds. But german officers were drunk on power and new to the confiscated cars, wrapping them around trees.
      During occupation, the Tatra company was forced to produce only trucks for military. if you wonder how germany managed to execute blitzkrieg, czechoslovak military was the only one fully mechanised (no horses) at the 1938. All these trucks plus those produced were used to sustain the blitzkrieg operations in both fronts.
      Communists basicaly kept the same rules for tatra with their planned economy, they made Škoda into main automobile producer, and Tatra into heavy truck producer. Tatra was allowed to produce only luxury vehicles for communist elite.

Erich Ubelacker (I'm afraid that I can't find umlauts on this keyboard for the U) was integral to the design and development of every Tatra ending with a 7. His lucky number in the nomenclature of the 57, 77, etc until the Austrian Corporal ruined the 1930's for everyone.

    Yes, Tatra made the original concept, VW Beetle and Porsche used the Tatra concept and they did refine it.
    Ferdinand Porsche was born in Czech Republic (well it was Austrio-Hungary in that time), so he had connection to Ledvinka and to Tatra.

    So if someone went back in time and killed Hitler/taught him to paint better, would that make Porsche to never exist?

      Or Volkswagen thus Bugatti, Lamborghini, Audi, Bentley would have disappeared because Volkswagen bought them saving their economics

    Porsche couldn't merge with or absorb Tatra - there was no Porsche company in 1945.
    And as far as 'looking' over each other's shoulders, Porsche flat out stole the VW Bug platform design from Tatra

    nothing says crazy like stealing/ taking a bad design from your buddy and spending 40 years perfecting it. I will make it work, damn-it. 911 is an evil car in many forms and handles poorly but mid-engine is so nice and so easy to do, kinda like some car called a Boxster or Ferrari or Lambo or a Cayman, or a 914. Hummph

    Ledwinka did not consider it a patent infringement, it was he not porsche who said he looked over porsches shoulder, and vice versa. they both looked over a lot of other shoulders too, and none of rhe elements were new. vw was winning in court, but decided to pay anyway. ledwinka ended up in a czech prison for his efforts, and moved to germany, despite czech job offers ... a bit cheeky.

    • @quitecapable
      @quitecapable Před 2 lety

      whoops, another source says it was porsce not ledwinka who looked over the shoulder ... more likely, but otherwise comment still stands. i understand the patent was a detail on the cooling, not as is usually portrayed, the whole car. that detail was probably also prior art.

    1931? Really? But what about Lohner- Porsche, the world's first hybrid car known so far, and possibly the first 4WD?

    • @eozcompany9856
      @eozcompany9856 Před 2 lety

      That one was build by the Lohner company based on a Porsche design. He said 1931 because that's when he started his Porsche design studio.
