I pulled a pin out of my black gold 3 pin slider and went to 2 pin. I keep it set with bottom pin at 40 and set my top pin to be right on around 25ish. I can’t remember exactly right now but for the simple ease of elk hunting in heavy timber. With this my drops have me covered from about 47 and in. Anything under ten I know to just hold lower than usual. Or just split pin 1 and 2. Anything outside of my bottom pin I have time to range and set. But most cases I don’t get those shots in the heavy dark timber anyway

I use a single pin in northeast pa for white tails. I set my pin on 25yds and I’m good for 30yds or 20yds and I don’t have to worry about shooting farther than that in the woods I hunt.

      same here.
aim at bottom of heart for 20 yd, aim on the spine/ high lung for 30yd. 20 is really about 2-2.5” high.

I use a spot hogg fast eddie 2 pin. I sight in at 25. My 2nd pin is 40 shooting 31 inches of draw and 75 pounds 480 ish grains of arrow. The base of my level and pin is 52. I only dial if it's 45 or farther. Been west for 8 hunts. Have had success. Tried the 50 trick pin system as well but this works for me.

If Hunter Biden’s paintings could sell for over a $1mil, your elk drawing has to be worth at least that. Great info!!

Always quality info. I went the Option Canyon Pounder way largely due to your info on it a couple years ago. Started with a CP5. Absolutely love the sight but realized shooting 280-290fps the pin gap was just too tight until the 50 or 60 yard pins came into play. Sent it back to them (the BEST customer service in the industry by the way) and went to a 4 pin configuration. I now have it (speaking about my elk rig) have it set for 30, 40(mover), and 50....with the 4th pin being my second rover using the rear reference scale. As it sits just above the bubble (a pin instead of "shooting the bubble") gives me a 84 yard bomb for a follow up if needed. So exactly what you said I do with both my 40 mover, and my bottom pin sitting just above the bubble. It's phenomenal. Years and years I've searched for low clutter and multiple options....no pun intended. I now have the same set up on both bows and it's seamless. Hit the treestand for whitetail and just turn it up 10 yards....as you said the difference inside 40 is so small you can just learn to aim for a heart shot or top lung. If I knew how to tag Option Archery I would....but I'm just an old grunt trying to get better. Thanks for the good intel, keep it up sir.

thats good info, but the biggest secret is that eventually you will forget to move it or thought you did allready-if you are lucky and shoot a lot it will probably be while practicing -
than the freak factor is gonna save you while you hunting.
i ve shot all kinds, mostly 7 pin fixed or 3 pin movable.

This year for elk I'm using my Spot Hogg Triple Stack with the pins set at 30, 40, 50. It'll be a little high at 20 with the top pin and a little low at 40 (280 fps launch speed). The nice thing about the Spot Hogg is it has triple indicators so I know what each of my 3 pins is set to at all times. I can use my top pin as the rover out to 90+ yards.

I use sights with 2 fixed pins and 1 moving pin for everything. When hunting, I set the moving pin at 40 yds with my 2 fixed pins at 20 and 30. For 3D, the moving pin goes all the way out to 80 yds.

I like my hha Ryz, it’s a 2-pin and I dial it to 25 and 41, that way I have a “close” and a “far” option and I’m within about 6” with some overlap.

Great video, hunted with you a few times in Nebraska, about 12 years ago, been using a single pin moveable sight for the last 15 years, what your saying is exactly on point, for me I just don’t like a lot of clutter in the sight picture, and I’m color blind, I usually spot and stalk at the 35 yard pin mark, so I know I can kill anything from 20-50 yards fairly easy, That is if my heart calms down from acting like a puppy with two peters when anything brown steps out in front of me haha
I have a bow tech revolt X80 now, have the HHA tetra single pin sight, hamskea epsilon rest, tied to the limbs, my draw length is 28”, use the gold tip hunter XT arrows, 250 spine, at 475 grains, using the schwacker 125 grain heads, with some extra screw on weights up front, they shoot around 275 Ft/sec
Always had good luck with those, But the arrows are hard to tune, and even though they should shoot close to where you sight in your broad heads they don’t,
I like the idea of trying the 3-pin set up, with a moveable 3rd pin, probably gonna order a new reticle,
Great videos, enjoy your way of explaining stuff thanks

I use a cbe trek 3v set to 27 40 and 50 with the zero stop reverse engineered to stop when my top pin is at 60, which makes the other two just about 70 and 78yds. I don't have to move anything to kill out to 55 and I don't need to look at anything to kill out to 60, which is my max first shot distance. Though once something gets and arrow in it and needs another all bets are off.

I think a one pin is the only way to go. Also, why 80 pound bows? It floors me when people use that kind of weight.
    One pin is king.

Similar to what he said about the canyon pounder floater…I have the tetra max 4 pin and set my 40 yard pin has the rover.
It’s in the middle of my scope and stays centered in my peep at longer distances. I prefer this opposed to the bottom pin as I would start to pull my head back to see through the peep at longer shots.

I have the tetra Max and am not sure how to use the bottom pin as the rover i set my top pin as my rover pin, I have from top pin down 20,30,40,50, When I tried to use the 50 pin as a roller pin and tried getting the correct sight tape it was always off so any feedback would be helpful, TIA

    • @rasant8917
      @rasant8917 Před měsícem +2

If you went through the process of shooting at 20 and then 60 (using top pin) and have a good zero with correct tape you’re pretty much done.
In this case, you’re going to use the same sight tape. Cut the tape at 50 yards, make sure your wheel is set to zero and put the tape on with the indicator at 50 yards. In this method, you won’t be able to dial 50.

What would you consider to be a good budget friendly sight with these features? This will be my first time elk hunting. I'm confident 60 and in. Mainly use just a five pin fixed. Hunting western new Mexico. Lots of open but dense woods too. Thinking about using my climber on some of the ponderosa pines too.
