- Following the Battle of Fort Necessity on July 3rd, 1754, events in Colonial North America quickly escalate, with the British Parliament in London ordering a convening of a congress in Albany, capital of the Province of New York, to discuss intercolonial cooperation in what seems to be an undeclared war against the Kingdom of France and its North American colonies. Meanwhile, British Army reinforcements under Major General Edward Braddock arrive in the Colony of Virginia in February, 1755, with Braddock assuming control of operations against the French frontier. He plans a three-pronged offensive thrust against New France: he will lead the southern attack, aimed at Fort Duquesne in the Ohio River Valley; William Johnson will command British Colonial and allied Native forces in the middle theater of New York in the Lake Champlain region; lastly, British and Massachusetts Provincial forces under Colonel Robert Monckton will launch an expedition from Boston up to the Isthmus of Chignecto connecting Canada with Nova Scotia. Monckton's mission: seize the French fortress, Fort Beasejour, at the isthmus and secure Nova Scotia for the British. During the weeks of June, 1755, Monckton's troops will conduct siege operations against Fort Beasejour, in a campaign that will be nicknamed the "Velvet Siege." The future of French influence in Nova Scotia hangs in the balance at Fort Beasejour.

I don't think people realize how small the colonies were with the population. Was for this to happen with the right intelligent people in science, politics, speaking with intellect of out-of-the-box thinking, and in economics. It's once in a million lifetimes to happen and THEN to become a revolutionary war to change world history. Becoming a world leader as a powerhouse within 200 years with economics, military, freedom's of liberal thinking, and political strengths. Is crazy!!!! No wonder they thought they were chosen by God because everything would align in the United States has favor. It's the underdog story of centuries I think it rivals Hannibal and Caesar 100% yes there was slavery yes we conquered the Indians but who hasn't as a country throughout history Irish slaves of all races and people conquer other people. How do you think countries are and were formed??? It's just a great story I like Rocky on steroids......
I'm of Acadian and Mi'kmaq Ancestry and greatly enjoyed your video. FYI, the English offered a bounty on Mi'kmaq Scalps (Men, Women and children.) Plenty of atrocities followed on all sides.

Great video. I’m so happy someone finally highlighted the Battle! only issue I saw was with the British siege. They didn’t make a large defensive earthwork with cannons prior to attacking. They did however create a small trench line with 2 mortars and small artillery pieces guarded by a blockhouse. The trench line is still visible today however a lot was destroyed in the archaeological digs in the 1990’s. Other than that, LOVED the video. You can also look into the Eddy rebellion where they tried to recapture the fort or even the battle of the Peticodiac during the expulsion of the Acadians! Great work!
I've driven by both those forts 100s of times. When you look at the high ground the French didn't use for the fort, instead focusing on the water approach you can see why they gave up so fast.
Can't wait for the Battle of the Monongahela aka Braddocks Defeat. Great work so far.

I remember the first time I read about Father Le Loutre's War. It really surprised me that while the Great Powers were taking a breather between the War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War, combat never actually fully ceased in Nova Scotia. The region basically suffered one big long war during that time frame...

Scottsullivanmma that’s very interesting because I just learned that a very distant cousin of mine married a woman who’s distant ancestors were killed in the seven years war and they were killed in an massacre known as the Gnadheuten massacre and this massacre took place right where leighton Pennsylvania is and it took place in 1755.

Acadians were fking around, but opted not to find out.
Not really, the Acadians in that area were farmers, the British wanted the farmland for the new areas that were captured. They did give the Acadians a choice to swear an oath to the king or else. The British didn’t just deport the Acadians. They went around Acadia destroying and burning all settlements so ensure those who ran away to hide never came back. It’s a shame. I was able to track my ancestry to having ancestors born in Beaubassin. This was the town that surrounded Fort Beausejour. Many were able to flee into the Miramichi and the Acadian peninsula, but some like Francois Chiasson, were deported back to France. He and his 2 children died on the passage.
